Story 2 Magical Ascencion Chapter 14

Although none of the youths died... There was no shortage of kids getting utterly fucked up by the higher-quality soldier-tier monsters that the city lords were throwing us against.

I was a cheating cheat. I had some weird kind of astral magic that could deal with a monster's strong defenses along with my spirit-augmented water element that could also act as both a weapon and shield. But for people that didn't awaken either the ice, fire, or lightning element?

I saw a number of kids with the wind element try to be slick and stab a monster with a spear or sword using their wind-enhanced bodies granting them more speed and thus better penetration power. I saw people with earth or water abilities who tried to batter at the monsters with their mostly defensive spells...

But in the end, I saw a number of students need to be carried out of the arena with terrible wounds on their forms with only the high-ranked healers and their own weak bodies allowing their limbs to literally be fucking reattached.

"This isn't normal... Normally it's just a small tournament or just fighting the monster and if you get hurt at all. You get pulled out of the fight." Taihou muttered as we watched a crying heiress bawling at how three of her fingers got cut off by a wind blade sent at her by a bird monster who got exploded into a blood mist by Makoto after seeing the heiress mentally collapse at losing her fingers.

"Something is up with the Great Lake... They said a lot more pocket realms are appearing and with only lower-leveled mages able to investigate them and get the loot within, they are trying to weed through the weak mages to find out who has the power to hold their own in the fastest and most efficient manner." I said with a frown as although their methods were the right way to go about it...

A lot of mages who didn't awaken with immediate offensive magic were going to be prejudiced against the Raiden Sisters. To say nothing of their brutal testing method was going to make the noble families very fucking unhappy with them.

As strong as they were as pseudo-Forbidden Curse Mages when they combined, that didn't mean squat should the families pay a large price to fuck them up before they could combine to say nothing of the families hiring another half-step Forbidden Curse Mage to take over as the leader of the city with their blessing.

"Jake Barris! It's your turn now!" Makoto called out with the same easy-going smile she spoke with announcing each heir and heiress battle and would only change her expression when those people refused the call for battle and would always say how disappointing they were or something along the lines.

Without a complaint, I jumped into the arena as the last heiress was picked up by her father and carried out with said father glaring at Makoto... Who just ignored him as she focused on me and the rest of the audience as she spoke out loudly. "Alright, Jake! You get to fight an adolescent Merman! Aren't you so lucky!" She crowed and my face went utterly fucking flat as my opponent was pushed into the arena.

Merman, were one of the more intelligent races of monsters in the Great Lake, and although they didn't get human levels of intelligence and the ability to speak till after they reached the peak of Commander Level... The almost full grown Merman hissed at me and I could feel its own magical presence was at the peak of Soldier tier, if not just barely below cresting over into the Commander tier.

'These crazy bitches want us to kill the Commander tier monsters in the pocket realms to get the loot!' I realized with a frown as I saw Makoto wink at me.

I took a breath and I spoke out. "Kusanali come." A purple laced with green magical glyph formed beneath me and the crowed cheered as Kusanali popped out of my magical glyph from the Summon Realm in her Kirlia form. And even as she came out, she instantly struck out at the Merman with zero mercy sending dozens of thorns as she had been seeing through my eyes and knew it to be an enemy.

The bipedal fish monster snarled as Kusanali's thorns shot home into his flesh but his scales kept the spiked and serrated thorns from pericing too deeply. "Vines." I ordered and Kusanali nodded as she used her own 'beast' instantaneous bloodline magic to conjure a stream of vines that blocked a high-speed lance of pressured water that I knew would have torn through sheet metal. 

All the while as Kusanali and the Merman shot wood, and water attacks at each other with increasing lethality, I realized that using even my Heavy Water as a weapon against the Merman... Wouldn't be that effective as Merman as a race lived deep under water under constant high pressures.

'Did they give me a monster that would force me to use my astral magic?' I thought as the golden glyph bloomed beneath my feet as I formed the spell circle for the astral spell of An Gal Ta Kigal Šè.

With an exhale I summoned up the spinning large orb atop my hand and as Kusanali raised a wall of thick wood to block an exploding water bullet that would have shredded me apart with zero issues I spoke again. "Wall down." Kusanali knew exactly what I wanted. 

And without a beat missing, she threw the wall of wood towards the merman who summoned a wave of water to slow the huge wall that got yeeted at him. But in the moment he dodged to the side, I could see his dark eyes widen as I had ran behind the wall of wood so that as we got closer with a flex of my will the golden high-speed rotating ball of death was shot at him at closer range.

Leaving the monster with no room to escape.

A loud crunching noise rang out as the ball rammed into the monster at chest height with the ball under my will slamming his form onto the ground and then blood and gore got sent everywhere as the rotating planetoid ground his chest in under the weight and abrasiveness of its mirrored planetoid surface spinning at ridiculous speeds.

And then I closed my hand into a fist with the orb violently detonating with an explosion that racked and shook the wall of quickly summoned veins that Kusanali summoned to dampen the effects of the explosion.

"So that's the vaunted new element! Very impressive!" Makoto cheered loudly and I inwardly grimaced as my capabilities were aired to the whole city and certainly beyond as people would love to hear and research about a supposed new element. "Now go ahead and go back to your seat Jake, and congratulations on such a... High-quality summon." Makoto said with clear distaste as she looked at the monster, and I knew she didn't like Kusanali simply for the simple reality of her being a monster.

Either way with Kusanali's help I elegantly rode up a wooden platform back into the seats and as I sat back down I heard a number of titters and giggles as Kusanali jumped into my lap and refused to let Taihou hold one of my hands as she hogged my hands in making me hug its small form.

'I worked hard for you Jake... Can't I get a head pat, and you telling me I did a good job?' Kusanali whispered into my mind and my lips twitched as Taihou vibrated barely repressed fury at not being able to check me over after the battle.
