Confrontation

Astraea, I got breakfast for us."Eos said, walking into the room.

I put out the cold blue light that shines in my palm and took my portion of breakfast from Eos.I bit onto the sandwich and ate it as I wrote on a piece of parchment.I had managed to reduce the light's temperature to -200 degrees Celsius.A little more testing then I would be ready to show my discovery to the school council.Magic felt so amazing. So I wanted to hit the lowest temperature possible before showing my discovery.

"You're so hardworking."Eos commented.

I waved my hand and the quill started writing on its own without my hand.I turned towards Eos.The room falls silent and only the sound of the scratching of the quill on parchment was heard.

"I'm not hardworking, Eos.I simply chase after fame and fortune, it's what I was raised to be."I replied in a monotonous tone.

To my surprise, Eos asked in a serious tone,"Who are you?"

"Excuse me?"I replied.

"Your not Astraea. What kind of demon has possessed my friend?"Eos asked, pointing his sharp blade at my neck,"Bring back Astraea, now."

I bit my lip.Should I come clean and admit it?I guess Eos was not as blunt as I thought.Wherever Astraea's soul was, it was definitely not in my old body.

"Fine, you caught me.However, before I tell you, tell me how you found out."I said, stalling so I had more time to think.

Eos frowns, but accepts my request.

"Little things...habits Astraea had. She'd tap the quill against her cheek and bite her lip when she's thinking.Astraea would also never not remember the date, as her second best subject is astronomy.Astraea loves her magic as if it's her own child, so your explanation of why you were not hardworking completely contradicts her character. Finally, Astraea never smiled at me, not even once, and I don't think she ever will."Eos ranted in a rather sad tone.

Maybe I should tell him.I guess Eos and Astraea were much closer than I thought they were, since Eos knew so many little details about Astraea.Eos has just lost his friend overnight. He must be horrified to find the mind of a stranger in his friend's body.He deserves the truth at least.Though I did not know what happened to Astraea's soul.

"I've been reincarnated into the body of your friend. The truth is, that this world we are in is a video game back in my world.I don't know where your friend's soul is.Even so, you have to make do with me."I explained.

Eos lowers his sword, his brows furrowed.I wondered if he was having an existential crisis right now.

"I see...so you know the future?"Eos asked.

I nodded. He was taking this information surprisingly well.

"Only up to a certain point when the game ends.I don't know if Astraea would come back or if I'll return to my world to be reincarnated there after the game's ending. But as I said earlier, please make do with me for the time being, Mister Verhymn."I replied politely.

Eos seemed to be thinking. Then he took out a small ring made of silver and a 1-karat amythist crystal at it's centre. Some magic runes were carved on the largest amythist.I could tell this was no ordinary gift.

As Eos slides the ring around my ring finger, I asked,"What does it do?"

Eos smiles then replies,"You are quite observant.I'm sure you know what this is."

I did not.Eos just held me in too high a regard.

"Nonetheless, I'll tell you.Its a ring that hides your soul colour from priests who can see it.A foreign soul like yours would be white or black depending on how good or bad you are."Eos added.

Eos lets go of the ring on my finger gently.I then look at it.The colour matched my eyes.

"What was Astraea's colour?"I asked.

In the game, 'soul colours' were not mentioned. The player did know that the priests could see one's soul and make out if the person is good or bad. However, the way the priests figured that out was never explained.

"Dark purple, the colour of this amythist on this ring I've given you."Eos replied,"It's a rare colour.Generally, people with darker coloured souls are more 'dark' and 'evil' in a way. However, purple is an exception. All souls who've had purple as their colour have changed the world in some way, for good or for evil. The lighter the shade of purple, the bigger the good impact a person would make.."

"So that means that Astraea would have a colossal bad impact on the world, right?"I said,"Astraea was doomed to die at the hands of you or the others after the protagonist thwarted her plans.Did you know that?"

Eos eyes widened.

"I...would never kill Astraea."Eos muttered.

I chuckled bitterly.

"But in one of the endings you turned on her and sliced open her neck with the very blade you threatened me with."I replied coldly,"I am trying to avoid that fate.Hence, make do with me for now, Eos Verhymn.Work with me, so Astraea won't meet a grisly fate so she can live happily if her soul returns."

I stretched my arm towards him for him to shake it.Eos glanced quickly at my face. Then, after sighing, he shook it.a

"Just know that I'm doing this for Astraea, not for you."Eos snapped.

"I know, but that's all I need."I replied, smiling.
