"★~ Aurbis ~★ "

Aurbis then opened the system's quest tab.

=====================

Make the Guard who insulted you bend on his keens:

You have been insulted, so prove that you are a better Nord than him.

Reward: A piece of the armor of your choice.

=====================

Reading the quest, he thought 'Why am I never receiving experience? Why is my system different from the system novels I read during my free time?'

Aurbis is very confused and feels slight regret. The system novels he read always make the MC overpowered with their rewards, whereas his system rewards are pretty fair, not OP.

The summoning ticket he had received said it was a once-in-a-lifetime reward, so he wouldn't receive another one like that.

'Instead of complaining, I should to grateful. Being too greedy is not a good thing' Aurbis told himself, thinking how lucky he received a system that could level him up unlimitedly.

Thankfully, he also received a map from Hulca, who used to be an adventurer like him and kindly marked dangerous zones that needed to be avoided and safe areas to hunt.

The closest town is Riverwood, so he just needs to take a left from the stables and right at the farm at the end of the road, which can lead to Riverwood, or just follow the river, which can also lead him to Riverwood, but a lot more dangerous.

Aurbis's map reading skills are nothing to be proud of, so he is not confident that he can make it to Riverwood by the afternoon.

On his way, with nothing to do he thought 'What is my goal'

At first, he thought of working as a guard, but the thought of working under someone infuriated him. The next option was the College of Winterhold, but Aurbis didn't want to go to a place where mages are trained. So currently, he just thought of gaining power and surviving.

Talking about power-ups, unlike other systems, he neither has stats nor a way to add points to special stats like charm, or agility. But can add points to Health, Magicka, and Stamina.

Putting points in Heath could increase his vitality, making him more healthy. Magicka helps his mind to think faster, memorize and increase his Magicka. Stamina helps his endurance and how much he can push himself before getting exhausted. That was what he was able to come up on top of his head; the system never explained to him what happens if he puts points on any of the attributes.

After killing the two guards at the prison, he leveled up once and put one point into Magicka, making it 110. At first, he thought of putting it in Stamina but realized that there was a negative effect in his [Active Effects], which reduces his stamina, health, and regeneration -malnourishment.

With the blood of the dragon in him, even with the negative effect, he can fight an average Nord into a fistfight and win.

"Grr…" The sound of his stomach distracted him from his thoughts.

'You are insatiable' Aurbis said, looking at his stomach.

Aurbis has been feeling very hungry since yesterday, even after eating. He just shrugged it off, saying it is related to his malnourishment, but he will find out later there is more to it than it seems.

Checking his inventory, he found an ancient axe he took from a draugr. However, the thought of taking their armor didn't appear in his mind at that time, as he was too stressed, and taking something from the dead was repulsive to him. Though weirdly he felt okay to take loot from the people who were already dead, killed by someone or something else.

Arriving in an unknown forest, he brought out his axe, ready to prepare if he summoned an enemy. While the system said the rewards could be safe, he still didn't trust the system.

『Consume?』

Aurbis then selected the option, and suddenly a bright light appeared in front of him. The light blinded him, causing him to close his eyes.

When he opened his eyes, a small black cat was licking his paws in front of him.

'Cosmo?' Aurbis thoughts of his cat Cosmo, who was also a black cat, but after looking closely, he realized this was not his friend Cosmo.

Cosmo has white dots underneath his paws and chin, whereas the cat in front of him has neither. Instead, it is entirely black with unique golden eyes that almost seemed to shine.

"Aww… you are so adorable!" Aurbis said as he placed his slightly bent index finger in front of the cat, asking permission to pet it.

The cat stared at Aurbis for some time and finally rubbed its cheek after sniffing his finger.

Aurbis then spent time with the cat, petting it, trying to make himself and the cat comfortable to his presence. Fortunately, as a cat dad, he knew some things that helped him quickly become comfortable with the cat.

While petting, Aurbis found out that the cat is a female, so he named it Kana. He was going to name Cosmo (His cat) Kana, but after finding out his wife adopted a male cat from her friend, he named it Cosmo.

"Are you hungry, Kana?" Aurbis asked, hoping she wasn't hungry, as he doesn't have any food currently.

"Grr…(^_^;)" Again, his stomach growled, causing him to be embarrassed.

Kana stared at his stomach for some time and left towards the woods.

'She doesn't like me?' Aurbis thoughts as he started sulking. He then realized that cats are relatively independent, and now that he couldn't feed her, it's possible she ran away.

"Meow~"

Aurbis sulking was interrupted when he heard Kana's voice. Turning around, he saw Kana was holding a fish in its mouth.

Kana then came forward, dropped the fish at Aurbis's feet, and stared at him.

Smiling, Aurbis replied "You are a smart girl Kana" as he started rubbing around her ears, causing her to purr.

Aurbis didn't question where she got the fish from, as the water source was far from looking at the map. Instead, he was grateful that Kana brought him food when he was hungry.

After gathering wood, Aurbis used {Flames} which caused the wood to catch fire.

Kana was surprised to see fire coming out of his hands. Aurbis, seeing her surprised expression, decided not to do anything which might spook her.

Aurbis shared half of the fish with Kana, and the other half he ate himself. While it didn't fill his stomach, the embarrassing sounds of his stomach growling had stopped.

"(•ˋ _ ˊ•)... How did I end up here?" Aurbis questioned out loud.

In front of him is a large Nordic structure with dead bandits' corpses on the stairs.

'I hope I won't regret this' he thought as he made his way inside with Kana sitting on his shoulder.

Inside was what you expect inside an old Nordic tome -dozens of dead dried-up corpses.

Aurbis noticed that there were footprints, which means the tomb was explored recently.

Aurbis then explored this place. He had seen some strange things, multiple solved puzzles, a giant dead spider with a dark elf corpse next to it, and enormous stone construction with glyphs written on them.

"Here lies the Guardian keeper of dragon stone and a force of unending rage of darkness" Aurbis somehow could understand the writing and read out loud.

'Force' the world captured his attention and had a strong meaning to him without understanding why.

Why could he read this writing that clearly looked ancient, almost draconic?

"{Fus}" He said loudly, trying to see why the word captured his interest.

Aurbis's blood started boiling, and a loud thundering sound came out of Aurbis's mouth, knocking him back. He never expected that just by saying the word out loud, he was able to produce such power from his voice.

Something inside Aurbis seems to have awakened. He tried to say it again, but unconsciously, he got an answer that he can only use it sometimes like it has a cooldown.

Aurbis turned around to see if Kana was okay. Seeing her get on his shoulder again, he nodded his head, thanking he didn't hurt her.

Checking his status, he realized that the power he just used, called Shouts, has a cooldown.

'Am I a Dragonborn too?' Aurbis thought.

The thought of some other person without no dragon blood using the power of Dragon language to kill his own kind infuriated him for some reason.

Taking a deep breath, he thought 'Something is not right. I don't know what is happening to me.'

Looking around, he found an empty chest and a bottle of poison. Auburn realized this was like a dungeon, like the games he had played.

Aurbis then looked around and found an unopened chest behind the large stone with writing.

Opening the chest, he found gold coins and a red potion. Aurbis found a nice trick using the inventory function. He then places the red potion and the poison in the inventory.

『Potion of Minor Heath』: Restores 25 points of Health

『Lingering Poison』: Drains the target's Health by 1 point per second for 15 seconds.

"I am sorry, Keeper of Dragonstone" Auburn said as he took the sword from the corpse of the guardian, which someone killed.

He had taken a bow and another sword from the dried-up corpses throughout the way. However, he didn't try to take their equipment, as most of it was rusted and broken down.

He placed the ancient sword in his waist belt, which he took from the dead bandits outside.

Aurbis was very uncomfortable; his heart was still not convinced that he was doing the right thing, whereas his mind was telling him that everything was normal.

He took a deep breath and moved up the stairs, leading him outside the tomb.

It wasn't difficult for him to slowly climb down the mountain. After reaching down the hill, he realized the sun was about to set.

Deciding to make a camp, he chose a pleasant spot and started to collect wood.

Kana, who was using him as a warmer, suddenly stood on his shoulder.

Aurbis, sensing Kana's distress, questioned "What is it Kana?"

"OooWoo…." Howls of wolves quickly surrounded him.

"Oh boy" Aurbis said, cursing his misfortune. He realized by their howling that they surrounded him and were ready to attack.

Taking out the ancient sword, he got ready to attack any wolves which might attack him.

A wolf behind him launched at him, with his sharp teeth aiming at his neck.

Kana quickly jumped from his shoulder and scratched the eyes of the wolf, interrupting its attack.

Aurbis didn't notice the wolf's attack and panicked; if Kana didn't save him, his neck would have been ripped by the wolf.

Taking the opportunity, he stabbed the sword in the head of the wolf on the ground. Then used {Flames} to make a circle of fire around him, lighting the place.

Surrounding him are five wolves growling at him, ready to rip him and Kana apart.

"Kana jump on the tree!" Aurbis said, hoping Kana was intelligent enough to listen to his command. But, surprisingly, she listened and jumped on a tree.

Aurbis quickly cast two {Paralysis Rune} one in the front and one in the back. Then, deciding to be creative, he cast the rune on the War Axe, holding in his left hand with his last Magicka.

Two wolves launched at him, but they got paralyzed when they stepped on his rune.

Aurbis took the opportunity and slashed his sword twice at the paralyzed wolves, causing them to die.

A wolf, seeing its three pack members dead, growled and ran straight to him.

Aurbis threw the axe in his left hand at the wolf, causing another explosion of paralysis. Turning to the side, he said "{FUS}"

Aurbis's shout stunned the fourth wolf, giving time for Aurbis to kill the third wolf and the fourth wolf.

Finally, the fifth wolf, larger than the previous four wolves, stared at him.

Aurbis looked at his right corner and saw his Magicka wasn't enough to cast even the {Flames} spell.

Seeing no weapon in his hand, the alpha wolf lunged at him. Aurbis, who was unarmed, had to use his forearm to defend against the attack, or his neck would have been ripped.

"AAA…" Aurbis screamed as the wolf bit his forearm, sinking its teeth in his skin.

Aurbis with the wolf biting his forearm took a step back causing the {Paralysis Rune} he had placed at the beginning to explode, causing the wolf who sunk its teeth in his arm -to paralyze. Then he summoned a dagger from his inventory and shoved it underneath the chin of the wolf, its weak spot.

The alpha wolf never expected to be paralyzed or thought the human could summon a weapon out of thin air, so it died with regret and revenge in its eyes.

"That's going to leave a mark" Aurbis said, looking at his injured left arm.

Aurbis could use the potion to heal the injury, but he didn't want to waste it, so he waited for a couple of minutes to use {Healing}.

As he expected, it did leave a scar or multiple of them on his arm.

"Looks badass don't you think" Aurbis said trying to lighten the mood.

Kana rolled her eyes, looking at Aurbis, and climbed on his shoulder, her favorite spot. Kana's ears were upright, tail pointing up, and her back facing up. She is ready to attack if anything harms Aurbis. She was clearly worried for Aurbis who was attacked by a pack of wolves.

Aurbis chuckled and started to pet Kana, trying her to calm down. He then placed the five wolves' corpses in the inventory and left to find a water source to clean himself.

-x-X-x-

"I really need to learn a spell for cleaning" said a man with unique red eyes, scrubbing pieces of armor in the river.

Aurbis has been cleaning the blood off the armor for a long time, and no matter what he has done, the smell is not going away.

Thinking it was psychological, he gave up and dried them with his {Flames}, though he needed to decrease the intensity of the flames not to damage the leather armor.

"Meow~"

Aurbis turned around and saw five fishes waiting for him to be devoured.

Looking at the cute Kana, he picked her up and showered her with kisses. He was thankful Kana was bringing food for both of them to eat.

Suddenly he realized something "You can understand me, can't you?"

Kana was stunned for a couple of seconds and finally nodded her head, indicating she could understand him.

Aurbis was delighted to hear that. He was worried he would go crazy in this world with no one to talk to. So he simply thought the system chose a cat race that was intelligent and able to understand human language.

"Were you able to read the writing on the walls and understand what I have said?" Aurbis asked how far she could understand him.

Kana shook her head and suggested she wasn't able to read and understand him when he used Dragon language.

Suddenly, their time was disturbed by the thundering sounds in the sky.

Looking in the sky, Aurbis saw a giant dark creature with wings and red markings on it.
