Chapter Nineteen; Wolferan

Wolferan gave the order to his men to look into Leanunya's victims after he left the dungeon. He needed to know if what she had said was the truth. If it was true then not only was she not evil but could also be a decent person. This was starting to frustrate him.

He had come to believe the silver-eyed demon was evil. She had killed hundreds of people yet now it was under inquiry that she didn't kill indiscriminately. This only brought more questions to mind. Why did she kill only bad people? Was really just a killer or was it that she thought of herself as some hero?

He had to find out, but even with bargaining to give her treatment she was still hard to get any information from. He needed to get this information and in the shortest time. He then had a sudden idea that was a sure way to find out if it was true and give him time to talk with her more.

He ordered his men to prepare traveling food for two for a few days and headed back into the dungeon. He had a plan and was willing to try it out. This plan of his would be risky but allow him to determine if what she said was true. He didn't know why but he cared about if she told him the truth.

Wolferan walked into the dungeon cell with Leanunya. He could see she was fighting the pain of her broken wing but he was satisfied she did eat the food he gave her earlier. He closed the door behind him and spoke.

"You and I will be going on a little trip. We will go see the kid you call Nagos that you said you trained. Answer my questions and you'll get treatment for your broken wing before we leave tomorrow."

He saw her narrow her eyes before nodding. He figured she would use the trip as a chance to escape. Though it wouldn't happen on his watch now he had finally caught her.

"Good, now tell me where the child is." Leanunya answered, "in Rynion." "What part of the city?" "No clue didn't stick around to find out"

He nodded, "what did you teach the child and where did you teach him?" "I taught him to survive. I trained him in the forest", she grumbled.

"Do you think of yourself as a hero?" Leanunya huffed, "Who needs such childish sentiments?" Wolferan looks at her, "then why only kill evil people?" She paused before he heard a reply. "I'm no saint but I won't kill innocents if I can help it. There is no point. No money in it for me."

Wolferan could clearly hear the lie in her words in her last sentence. He knew she had a reason but was unwilling to share but this brought only more questions. If she didn't see herself as a hero then why only kill evil people? He just couldn't see her reasoning.

"Ok, I want the real reason you only kill bad people" he saw her scowl. "Why should I dirty my hands on innocents when there are plenty of evil people around? I'm no saint and I'm no hero. I'm just trying to make a living."

Wolferan knew she spoke the truth but he still felt she was hiding something else. He just couldn't tell what she was hiding. He would find out in due time but for now he would continue his questions.

"What is the reason you went after the king to kill?" She replied swiftly, "He banned Cattagons." Wolferan narrowed his eyes, "what triggered you to think to go after him and kill him?" Leanunya lashed her tail, "he killed my parents."

He could see the anger in her eyes and asked, "I thought they abandoned you?" She growled, "I saw them every now and then." Wolferan asked, "you sound like you hate them rather than love them. Did you go after the king because you loved your parents or hated them?" Leanunya hissed, "I wanted to kill them myself, ok?!"

Wolferan huffed, "you were right about one thing; you are no saint." "Did I ever say I was one?" He saw her lash her tail.

"Angry? You shouldn't be. It was only the truth. You only wanted to kill the king because he took away your chance to kill your own parents." He saw her stand. "They abandoned me to go party and drink. They never paid me any mind even when sick and dying! I had to find my own food or anything I needed!"

Wolferan watched her yell at him before she winced and grabbed her right side. He nodded softly before turning and leaving the cell. It seemed she had a sore spot about her parents. A spot that angered her enough to make her chatty enough to get real answers. He left the dungeon and ordered a healer to go tend to Leanunya's injuries.

He got what he wanted from her for now. He now just needed to wait for the next day to leave. For the moment he needed food to help digest the knowledge he'd just obtained. He walked to the kitchen and asked the staff to make him something to eat and bring it to his office. He then went to his office to think over this startling news.

He just couldn't really understand why she had such hatred for her parents. His mother had been a great and kind woman but his father had been abusive. Even then he never hated his father. He just couldn't understand her hate. He knew each person was different but still normally he had some understanding as to why some people did what they did but with her hatred of her parents it was different.

Sure she had it tough but every child only wanted approval and care from their parents. But, Leanunya had only wanted to kill them to the point when she didn't have the chance to kill them herself anymore; She went after the person who took away her chance.

This made him nervous of her determination. If she had the determination to kill the king because of him taking her chance of killing her parents then what would she do if something really precious to her was taken or destroyed? That kind of determination could be very deadly.

He was now glad that she had only put her focus on killing what she said were bad people. If she had the will to kill at random there was no telling just how many people she could kill. He had fought with her and knew few people if not just himself would be able to stop her. But it also made him wonder what made her want to kill only bad people.

He sighed thinking before there was a knock on his study door. He told them to come in and a servant came in carrying a tray with a plate of food. He nodded and took the tray, putting it on his desk even as the servant left, closing the study door behind him. Wolferan picked up his fork and started to eat.
