Chapter Eighteen; Leanunya

Leanunya grumbled trying to find a comfortable position to sleep in. She was having no luck due to her agonizingly painful broken wing and broken ribs. She was starving as well but was only given water. A night had passed since she woke up in this dungeon she was trapped in and she felt she hadn't eaten in over a week. Although she could easily do so she was starving for food and she didn't see any escape routes.

Of course she knew at one point or another a chance would show itself. For now she could only bear with the pain and hunger while waiting for her chance. She had no idea what Wolferan was up to but she hoped to find out this morning. But as fate would have it even after the sun had long risen she saw no signs of wolferan.

Her prison cell was small with a small slit for fresh air and sunlight to enter. The slit though, was far too small to fit through. There were just barren stone walls, a couple of buckets, a blanket she could use if she got too cold, the chains bolted to the wall and the large wooden door. There was nothing to really look at nor really use if she needed to in an emergency to escape.

She shifted her position to try and get to a comfortable position only to hiss in pain when she knocked her broken wing on the wall. She took a few moments of gritting her teeth and clenching her fists trembling before relaxing some as the pain subsided a bit. Her wing seemed to only hurt worse as time went by. Leanunya sighed and looked to the door of her cell. She needed to treat her wing and ribs so they would heal properly. She also wanted food to distract her from her hunger and maybe some of her pain.

She knew though it was doubtful she would get either. She figured she would be down in this dungeon until she escaped or died. She of course was determined not to die as she still had plans for her own future. She wanted to settle down and not have to fight any longer or hide who and what she is. She was determined to get what she wanted although she knew it to be impossible.

She sat up properly not letting her broken wing anywhere near the walls. She may have a high pain tolerance but she still hated pain. If she could avoid it she would. Although, due to her training in the forbidden forest she had long gotten used to pain and could tolerate lots of pain. She was also unbothered by the cold stone floor and walls due to this as well.

Her training was also the only reason she wasn't crying or wailing out about her pain and still able to think clearly. Though, it also helped that she was stubborn. This led her to be able to think of ways to try and escape. There was one big issue though; she had no clue where she was. She only remembered being captured outside the capital city before waking up here in this dungeon.

She didn't know if she was in the capital city or if she was elsewhere. She did hope to be elsewhere though as it left her with more options to escape. But, it also gave her more issues to consider such as where she was within the lands. She could be anywhere at this point really. Although she did have a sneaking suspicion she was in Wolferans own private dungeon as her cell was so clean and quiet.

Normally when she had sneaked into dungeons before they were disgustingly dirty to the point you were walking in what you hoped was blood. This dungeon also didn't have the normal stink that made one want to hurel. So as such her thinking was she was in Wolferans own dungeon but whether this was fact or not was a different story.

She sighed and sat waiting bearing with her pain. She watched as she saw the sunlight fade from her cell from the slit in the wall. She knew she wouldn't be able to sleep so she stayed sitting in the most comfortable position she could get in watching for any change.

She stayed up the most night, dozing off here and there from exhaustion until daylight started to lighten up her cell. When she had dozed her wings or head would droop and she would jump awake from the pain caused to her ribs or wing. She looked to the slit in the wall then looked to the door stifling a yawn to prevent more pain to her broken ribs. She sat watching her dungeon cell's door for any movement and only after the sun had risen for several hours did the door finally open.

Leanunya looked up at Wolferan who held a plate with a bowl and roll. From what she could smell the bowl contained stew. The smell of the food made her stomach growl in hunger. She pinned her ears in embarrassment from letting others know her current weakness. Wolferan spoke as he entered the cell and closed the door behind him.

"I have some food here for you if you answer my questions honestly. You'll also get treatment for your wing if you continue to cooperate with me and answer my questions"

Leanunya looked at him suspiciously but nodded after a few moments. "Ask. Though I may not answer depending on the question"

Wolferan nodded, "What is your real name?" She looked at him surprised with the question before answering. "Leanunya is my name. No last name."

Wolferan smiled which wasn't exactly benign. It was kind of scary in a way since he had so many sharp dangerous teeth but compared to some creatures snarling at her she found it affable. She looked at him, flicking her tail even as he continued.

"Where and how were you raised?" Leanunya narrowed her eyes, "in the mountains." Wolferan looks at her, "How were you raised?" "I wasn't", she was on her guard. "Were you abandoned?"

Wolferan looked at her but didn't get an answer. He asked again but again got no answer so asked another question.

"Why won't you answer?" "Why do you even want to know how I was raised?" Leanunya countered, not budging an inch despite her hunger. Wolferan sighed, before speaking, "I am asking as it will give me a better understanding of why you chose to become an assassin, a criminal"

Leanunya huffed, "it doesn't really matter, I'm an assassin and it doesn't change anything." Wolferan frowned, "it does matter. Besides I want your cooperation or are you not hungry enough?" Leanunya scowled, "alright you want to know? Well, I was left with an old woman who didn't even know how to take care of herself ok?"

Leanunya was getting agitated from the questions, pain and hunger. She lashed her tail looking at Wolferan with her eyes narrowed, hating him for using her hunger against her. She wanted to escape but knew she was no match for Wolferan especially at this moment. She was injured and too weak from hunger and pain.

"So you killed people just because you were abandoned? You killed fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters… you killed innocent people.. all because you were abandoned or what? I can understand the king since he banned your people but the others?"

Leanunya growled, "I killed no innocent. All the people I killed did some crime or attacked me. I never killed an innocent person!" She lashed her tail angrily, feeling offended.

Wolferan huffed, "Really? Then what about lord Vandreff? You killed him in Burber. He was a good man." She hissed, "that bastard was abusing his children! I got the damn job from his wife! I kill no innocents!"

Leanunya saw Wolferan blink, seeming surprised for a moment or two. He then looked at her and asked, "Then what about the child you took with you two years ago? Did you not kill the child?"

Leanunya huffed, "no, He is just fine. His father asked me to take him away to keep him safe from his enemies. I trained him and took Nagos back to his father. What the hell do you think I am? Some monster that kills kids?" She lashed her tail angrily.

Wolferan smirked, "So the child's name is Nagos and you trained him? And you don't kill innocents? You'll have to tell me about each kill and why they weren't innocent for me to believe you. I'll also have to look into it myself as well because I don't believe whatever criminals say. Everything will have to be confirmed. You can have the food now" he set the tray down in front of her before leaving.

Leanunya stared at him as he left realizing her mistake. She had said too much and now she was in a pinch. Her anger, hunger and pain had gotten the best of her and helped him drag what information he wanted out of her. She couldn't let this happen again. Next time she might reveal something far too important.

Although, from what it sounded like to her, Wolferan hadn't known a lot about her victims. This gave her a slight edge but that probably would not last very long. She had to escape but first she needed to heal so she could escape. The first step was to get plenty of rest and food so she could recover. But, she knew she didn't have much time. It would take months to heal and she didn't have months.

She sighed before she picked up the bowl of stew and ate. She needed to curb her hunger so she could think somewhat clearer. She needed to come up with a plan to escape and to do that she needed to focus. Hunger would get in the way of her thinking so she ate.
