Aaliyah felt a surge of panic as she read the message from the system. She had no idea what a wolf was like in this world, or how to kill it. She had never harmed anyone or anything in her life, and she didn't want to start now. But she also didn't want to die, and the system made it clear that failure was not an option.
She quickly scanned the interface, looking for a way to cancel the mission, or at least postpone it. But there was no such option, only a countdown timer that indicated she had 24 hours to complete the task.
"Is this some kind of sick joke?" she muttered, hoping that someone would hear her and explain what was going on. But there was no response, only silence.
She felt a surge of anger and frustration, mixed with fear and confusion. She wanted to scream, to cry, to smash the interface, but she knew it was futile. She had to face the reality that she was somehow trapped in a game-like world, where she had to kill or be killed.
She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. She decided to look for more information about the wolf, hoping to find some clues or tips on how to deal with it. She tapped on the icon that displayed the mission details, and read the following:
Mission: Kill a wolf.
Difficulty: Easy.
Reward: 100 gold coins, 10 experience points, 1 skill point.
Description: Wolves are carnivorous animals that live in packs. They are usually found in forests, mountains, or grasslands. They have sharp teeth and claws, and can run fast. They are territorial and will attack anyone who enters their domain. They are vulnerable to fire and silver.
Tips: Use a bow and arrow to shoot the wolf from a distance. Aim for the head or the heart. Avoid close combat. If the wolf bites you, you may get infected with rabies. Use a fire spell or a silver weapon to finish it off.
Aaliyah felt a chill run down her spine as she read the description and the tips. She had never seen a real animal before, only in pictures and videos. She had no idea how to use a bow and arrow, or a fire spell, or a silver weapon. She didn't even have any of those things with her.
She wondered if she could use her magic, but she had no clue how to activate it. The system had given her a question mark for her magic attribute, which meant it was unknown or hidden. She tried to focus on her inner energy, hoping to feel some spark or surge, but nothing happened.
She felt hopeless and helpless, like a lamb facing a lion. She wished she could go back to her normal life, where she could play her video games and watch her anime in peace.
She shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts. She knew she had to act fast, or she would run out of time.
Aaliyah opened the door of the room she was in and the door could not help but creak much too loudly, attracting the attention of the purple-haired woman who hurried to join Aaliyah.
"Where are you going, little sister?" she asked, watching Aaliyah insistently.
This woman is my sister, Aaliyah understood. "I thought there was a resemblance," thought Aaliyah.
"I'm going for a walk, nothing more," said Aaliyah with an innocent smile.
"Good, but be careful out there, it can be dangerous," said the purple-haired woman before leaving.
A few minuter later after she took some useful things in the house Aaliyah was standing on a dirt road, surrounded by trees and flowers. The sun was shining brightly, and the air was fresh and crisp. She heard birds chirping, and insects buzzing. She smelled grass, and earth, and wood.
She looked at the interface, and saw that the countdown timer had started. She had 23 hours and 20 minutes left to complete her mission.
" It canot be that dificult." said Aaliyah.
She walked for a long time, without seeing anything or anyone. She felt hungry and thirsty, and decided to take a break. She found a shady spot under a tree, and sat down to rest. She drank some water from the bottle, and ate an apple from the backpack. She felt a bit better, but also more nervous. She wondered how long she had to complete the mission, and what would happen if she ran out of time.
She looked at the interface, hoping to find some information or guidance. She saw that the mission had a timer, which showed that she had 21 hours and 19 minutes left. She wished the system would tell her more, but it was silent and secretive.
"Come on, system, give me a hint. Why do I have to kill a wolf for it? Is it worth it?" She asked, hoping for a response.
But the system remained quiet, and did not answer her questions.
She looked for a way to track the wolf, or to lure it to her. She remembered that she had a knife, and thought that maybe she could use it to make a weapon. She had seen some of her video games, where the characters used bows and arrows to hunt animals. She wondered if she could make a bow and some arrows, and use them to shoot the wolf from a distance.
She looked around, and saw that there were some branches and vines on the ground. She picked up a long and sturdy branch, and used the knife she took from the house to carve it into a bow shape. She used a vine to make a string, and tied it to both ends of the branch. She tested the bow, and felt a slight tension as she pulled the string back. She smiled, feeling proud of her creation.
"Ha, take that, system. I don't need your fancy weapons. I can make my own. This bow is awesome. I bet I can shoot the wolf with it." She said, admiring her work.
She then looked for some smaller and thinner branches, and used the knife to sharpen them into arrowheads. She used some feathers from a bird's nest to make fletchings, and some more vines to attach them to the shafts. She made a dozen arrows, and put them in a quiver made from a cloth. She slung the quiver over her shoulder, and held the bow in her hand. She felt more confident, feeling like she had a chance to kill the wolf.
She resumed her walk, looking for the wolf's trail. She followed the road, until she came to a fork. She saw a signpost, which had two arrows pointing in different directions. One arrow said "Larcin", and the other said "Forest". She wondered which way to go. She decided to go to the forest, thinking that the wolf would be more likely to live there.
"Let's see, Larcin or Forest. Hmm, I think I'll go to the forest. The wolf must be hiding there. It's probably more dangerous, but also more fun. I like a challenge. Larcin sounds great. I can do this on my own." She said, making her choice.
She turned to the right, and entered the forest. She felt a chill as she walked among the trees, which cast dark shadows on the ground. She heard the sound of rustling leaves, snapping twigs, and howling wind. She also heard the sound of growling, snarling, and barking. She felt a surge of fear, as she realized that she was not alone in the forest. She realized that she had found the wolf.
She looked around, and saw a large and furry creature, with a gray coat and yellow eyes. It was bigger than a normal wolf , and at least a bear size. It had a long snout, pointed ears, and sharp teeth. It was the wolf, and it looked hungry and angry. The wolf saw Aaliyah, and locked its gaze on her. It sensed that she was an intruder, and a prey. It lowered its head, and raised its hackles. It let out a loud and menacing growl, and prepared to attack.
Aaliyah felt a surge of panic, as she saw the wolf's hostile posture. She realized that she had made a mistake, and that she had walked into a trap.
"Oh no, oh no, oh no. This is bad. This is very bad. What have I done? Why did I come here? Why did I listen to the system? Why did I take this stupid mission? This is not a game. This is real. This is life or death. And I'm going to die. I'm going to die by a giant wolf. This is not fair. This is not fun. This is not what I wanted." She said, in a terrified voice.
She tried to calm herself, and remember her plan. She raised the bow, and aimed an arrow at the wolf. She hoped to hit it in the heart, or the head, and kill it with one shot. She pulled the string back, and released the arrow.
The arrow flew through the air, and missed the wolf by a mile. It hit a tree, and bounced off. The wolf dodged the arrow, and snorted in contempt. It realized that Aaliyah was a weak and clumsy hunter, and that she posed no threat. It decided to end the game, and finish her off.
" Shit." said Aaliyah
It charged at Aaliyah, with a speed and force that she could not match. It leaped at her, with its jaws open, and its claws extended. It aimed for her throat, and her heart.
Aaliyah screamed, and dropped the bow.
