ACTING RECKLESSLY

I rushed out of my office to my personal elevator and hit G inside the elevator. As I walked out of the building, my driver came to the entrance driveway and I hopped in.

"Go home!" I said and he drove me to my house.

I barged inside and saw my mother outside the living room, talking with her friends in the patio. I sauntered slowly to her in hesitation. As I approached her, she looked up at me, raising her brow.

"I want to talk with you!"

'I'm busy, Let's talk later!' She ignored me.

"This won't take long, I need to talk !" My voice stubborn.

She moved up the couch and came closer and questioned in a husky voice, 'What?'

'About Noah and his father!'

"Psst….Again…How many times should I warn you to stay out of his reach? And I warned his family when I heard you spent a night with him, I thought his father had some conscience when he replied he would talk to his son! How shameless they are!' she scoffed.

"You're unbelievable mother! Why would you do that? "

' Look ...I am trying to protect you from him. This guy Noah has challenged me that he would take you away from me. And of course I had to threaten his father, so that his son's life won't be in danger.'

" How could you?"

' Tch..come on, as if they were frightened by my words. They have something against me from the start.. You should stay away from them.'

" You are out of your mind! " I shrieked at her and sprinted disregarding her holler to the garage displeased, figuring out the reason for Noah and Mr. Ember's strange behaviour.

I pressed on my accelerator, I drove my Celestiq to Ember & co despite the hectic traffic, I reached the place a few minutes earlier than it would take and I put on the brake before the parking entrance, stepped out of my vehicle and raced inside the building.

Such a modern and serene interior made my jaw drop at its opulence, though I wasn't in the mood to admire things. I was welcomed by the receptionist. I trodded to her table and asked if Noah is there. She took the receiver from the intercom and said, "Someone's here for you, Mr. Noah!" 

' Someone? ' I looked at the receptionist and I haven't seen her before, she must be new and that's why she didn't recognize me.

"Her name?" she looked at me while talking, 'Ah…Ash ...Ashley June!'

"Ms. Ashley June, sir", she shook her, "He is busy, mam….You need to get an appointment, I'm sorry." and she continued her work.

My fingers curled up tightly in, I bit my lower lip piqued, when he gave me the cold-shoulder. I totally lost my composure and began shouting at the receptionist, "Look just call and tell I'm not leaving until he talks with me, I ain't someone who needs an appointment, and tell him that he need to take responsibility for what he did to me yesterday night!"

"Ma'am…Please …calm down…" she got up from her seat, 'I won't! I need to see him!' I yelled and walked to the elevator furious.

The receptionist came out of her table ran behind me and stopped me from entering the elevator.

"Sorry Mam, you need to calm down and understand. He said clearly, not to let you in, understand, please!" she begged. "I may lose my job, if I let you !" her eyes almost welled.

I restrained myself and walked out, "What happened to me? Why did I act so recklessly?" exasperated, I pinched my nose.

"Why? Why?" I looked around the street fazed. My heart palpitating in pure rage and annihilation I felt inside, making me wobble.

My phone suddenly vibrated, I pulled myself together and answered, "Yes, Nate!"

'You missed.. a page…You didn't sign the document? Where are you ?'

"I'll be there in 20 mins!" ending the call, I strolled to the parking lot and drove back.

Nate was waiting for me when I entered my office.

' There you are! See you've missed this page!' He took the documents from the table.

"Cancel this collaboration, stop this project with Ember & Co" I said.

'Are you insane? We've invested a lot and acquired all the materials. We're almost set to get on with the project. We will lose our credibility, reputation leading to shrinkage!'

"I don't care!"

'You've never mixed personal emotions with your professional decisions, Ash. That was the best part of you.'

"What do you mean?" 

'Act like a professional, the Ruthless Queen of Businesses. Act like yourself, Ash! Don't let things come between you and your decisions about your work! I get it, something happened between you two. That's your personal life, don't be influenced by those emotions! '

I looked at him stunned.

'Noah, called me….' he sighed, 'He wanted me to fetch you and take care of you! ' his eyes didn't meet mine when he said those words.

"I see! " I groaned and approached Nate, grabbed the document from his hands and signed the missed page.

'Ash…I don't know what happened….'

"I'm tired, Nate. Let's talk tomorrow !" I flopped on the couch.

'I'll order dinner!' he said.

"No need….I have a meeting later! You can rest!"

'Sure thing, take care, I'm just a call away if you need anything !' He reminded me and walked out.

I stared at the empty space above me.

My phone buzzed again distracting me, it was a reminder for the meeting tonight. 

' It's already time, I should get ready and leave!' I straightened up and walked to my wardrobe looking for the dress to wear .

After a while, I put on a white sleeveless lapel blouse, pairing it with navy blue tapered trousers with an ankle strap heeled black stiletto, matching with gray chandelier earrings and moved out of my office for the meeting.
