AN INEVITABLE FATE

Rachel lost all the colors of her life even before turning 20. She never thought she could fall in love again. On that day, she lost her hopes and the desire to live. The only thing that kept her alive was her memories with him. It was the day when Aaron first saw her. He had never believed in love at first sight. He saw her crying miserably. He stood there the whole day watching her. Later he learned, that it was the day when she lost the love of her life, her husband. He couldn't believe himself that he actually fell in love with a girl at the funeral - her husband's funeral. "Don't leave." Aaron had run behind her, getting drenched in the rain. He was scared, scared that she would leave him. She pushed him hard and shouted, "I don't like you!" Aaron stood there, rooted to the ground. Staring with a blank expression he asked, "Why?" She tightened her lips, scared of showing her weaker side. He continued, "Because of your husband's death?" Rachel felt her world collapsing. She hadn't expected him to know about Eric's death. Seeing her expression he continued, "Rach, you can't live with memories forever. You have to move forward with someone. But I want that someone to be me." Rachel took a deep breath. "I'm not going to get married again." Seeing her being adamant, he said, "Yes, someday, you will." "No, I won't." He asked, "What if you change your mind in the future?" "That will never happen. If that day comes, then I will come to you." Rachel just wanted to get over with this as soon as possible. She didn't think much about her words as that day would never be going to come. Arron narrowed his eyes and asked, "Promise?" She nodded. With an evil grin, he went near her. Holding her face, "Let's seal this promise." Saying this, he kissed her hard. His first love. Can he bring back the happiness that she couldn't even find in her dreams? Him and her? Is it possible? Is it an inevitable fate? Chapter 68 : They both are engaged. (4)

Rachel started to have a bad feeling about it. She knew it was nothing much as he was Darren's father who came to visit her father, but she couldn't be at ease.

"How can I not visit even after hearing the gossips?"

"I..."

His tone carried a mockery. She had not met him after the engagement day as he had gone on a business trip for long. He was not particularly fond of her. Her future mother-in-law was no exception.

"My future-in-law, oh no, I mean, my friend, Colin is hospitalized. Needless to say, I must visit him, right?"

Rachel felt her back going stiff. She calmed herself down saying that he had all right to be mad at her.

"Let's go inside,"

Gabriel interrupted them before Darren's father could continue with his mockery.

All three entered and saw Colin starring at the ceiling with a blank expression. His face was pale and his eyes had lost life.

Rachel's heart throbbed seeing him like that.

"Honey, you are awake?"

Gabriel rushed towards her husband. She held his hand in hers, caressing the back of the palm.

Colin slowly turned towards her and smiled a little. His gaze shifted to Rachel.

"Dad, how-"

He turned his head right away. He didn't even acknowledge her presence.

"How are you, my friend?"

"I'm good. You didn't have to come, though."

"Of course, I had to come. I need to know what's happening, personally, right? Haha!"

His laugh echoed in the silent room. Displeasure and guilt were etched on Colin's face. He couldn't help but recollect yesterday's event. He shuddered!

"Right." His voice was no more than a whisper.

Rachel stood awkwardly in the room, like an outsider. She wanted to speak to her father, very badly! But,

'Have I lost my chance, already?'

"How are you going to solve this? How will you make it right?"

Darren's father asked directly.

Colin took a deep breath.

"I will apologize. I will sincerely express my apology for your family in front of the media. I will take the blame for not raising my child in a decent way."

"No!"

Rachel shouted. Her face looked horrified. How... how could her father take the blame for her? She would rather die than making her father bow his head in front of others.

"You don't get to say in this! Get out!"

Colin's breathing started to warry. Gabriel tried to control him by telling not to get agitated over small matters.

"Go home, now. Don't do anything rash!" Gabriel ordered. Colin's health was more important.

Rachel was astonished. Considering that it was for Colin's best, she left the room.

But she didn't go home. How could she possibly go leaving her dad in the hospital? She didn't dare to imagine what Colin said inside the room.

'Dad will apologize on behalf of me? Not unless I die!'

Her phone vibrated inside her pant pocket.

She didn't identify the number. She hesitated before picking it up.

_

Rachel gripped her phone tight in her hand. Her body trembled when she recalled what the other party said.

She wanted to speak to her father about the phone call but the other party said not to inform anyone...

She didn't have much time to waste. With determined steps, she strode off from the hospital.

Using the back gate of the hospital, she left the building. She hailed a cab and called Jane.

Jane was sitting on the sofa with a gloomy expression. It was very rare for the easy-go-lucky-girl to be sad. Her mom had told her not to visit due to the reporters. She could only accept it.

'I miss you, brother. No one cares about my feelings, why? If you were alive, you would have supported me no matter what!'

Tears were threatening to leave her eyes.

Even the servants felt dejected. Their Old Master was in the hospital, Young Madam had not come home from two days. Now, their beautiful Young Miss was crying her heart out!

Sigh! What an awful day!

Suddenly, Jane's phone rang. She came out of the daze, sprang from the sofa to fetch the phone that was placed on the coffee table.

She thought her mom called but it was from Rachel.

Her anger escalated to a greater level. She wanted to smash the phone onto the ground. But thinking that it could be related to her dad's health, she panicked.

"Hello?"

"Are you at home?"

"Yes, how is dad?" She sounded anxious.

"He's fine. Listen, I called you to tell you not to leave the mansion, alright? I am on my way."

"Why? Wait, you can't just order around after causing the problem!"

Jane rolled her eyes.

'Who is she to order me around? Doesn't she know that I am still angry at her?

"I can and I will! Now, just do what I say. Stay in the mansion until I come."

The call went dead after that.

Jane scoffed!

'Dream on!'

Happy reading time.
