A Promise To Myself

"That should do it. Do you feel alright?" Chloe asked.

She was the main healer of this guild. Though I only just met her, I could tell how skilled she was at her job. Her emerald green eyes scanned my body, seeing if she missed any injuries.

I replied, happily thanking her. "I feel pretty good now." I moved my arm around, feeling the stiffness disappear. "Wow, Thank you so much!"

My injuries had been healed like they never existed. Healing magic seemed to work miracles. Honestly, it wouldn't be a stretch to say it could heal some deadly wound, like maybe a lost limb or such.

This was a guess, I didn't know the first thing about any kind of magic. I just knew it was awesome.

Chloe smiled kindly, "Come back if you ever need to be fixed again. Of course, I might have to charge you next time."

She then began helping the injuries of the next person in line.

I looked over at the other side of the guild, where the Mysterious adventure was standing. He had his gaze focused on the quest wall, obse

Come to think of it, I hadn't even gotten his name yet.

I also didn't get a

chance to thank him either. When we got here, he just sort of walked off without saying anything.

From my side, the voice of a man spoke to me.

"Ya new here?"

When I looked, I saw a guy with a cocky face. But I could tell by his voice, he wasn't like that, it was just the natural look of his face.

He quickly explained his reason for asking. "I ask that because you're staring at that guy like you don't know who he is. Everyone around here knows about him."

Of course, he was referring to that Mysterious Adventurer.

I replied, "I met him just a while ago, but I didn't catch his name. Is he a strong adventurer or something?"

I wouldn't doubt it. His presence was enough to make Jackal back leave earlier.

The guy answered, "Him? We all just call him The Swordsman of Vengeance. Real Name: Katsu. Nobody really knows where he's from, but he's earned quite the reputation here."

"What kind of reputation?" I tilted my head. I honestly wanted to hear more.

"Whenever someone loses a loved one to a monster, all they have to do is come here and ask for his assistance. Don't even get me started on his battle tactics, they have no limits."

No lie, he sounded beyond amazing, and his name was so badass.

'Maybe I could earn a title like that someday. This is my new life, afterall. I have so many options about what I wanna do.'

Obviously, I could never be that good at dealing with monsters. I've been getting injured left and right since I got to this world. I wasn't even strong enough to help Emi get away from that Jackal guy.

Not to mention my bad luck. It would find a way to ruin anything.

I spaced out in thought.

In order to catch my attention again, the cocky-faced man snapped his fingers in front of me.

Snap!

"Hey, Are you still there?" He asked.

I jumped, "Ah, yeah. Sorry." My gaze shifted to a painting on the wall, one that showed four powerful-looking adventurers. " I was just thinking, what does it take to get strong? How would I get past the misfortune that life brings?"

For a long silent moment, the man studied me, then chuckled.

"Sounds like you must have some bad luck. Or something along those lines, right?" He had seen right into my life, at least it felt that way. I guess it didn't really take a genius to figure it out.

He continued, "I only have one piece of advice for you. When Life Knocks you down, get back up… AND PUNCH IT RIGHT IN THE FACE!!"

He threw a strike into the air as he said this. After that, he looked at me and smiled, "Got it?"

It was hard to tell if he was trying to be funny, or if he actually thought this way. Either way, it was enough to make me feel better for a second.

I giggled, "I will Keep that in mind."

__________

Nightfall came once again, just like it didn't every other night.

From my window, I stared up at the starry sky. There was a lot on my mind.

Why did I get transported to this world? What's the whole point?

It was still a big mystery to me. I knew the trope all too well, people who awake in a different world were usually summoned to be heroes that will kill the demon lord or something.

But if this world really needed someone capable, then they brought the wrong person here.

There was also a chance that there wasn't any reason. It could've just been a result of my utter bad luck.

Honestly, that's probably the case.

All aside, I needed to find a profession soon. I had to provide for myself somehow.

With a loud sigh, I let out all the air from my lungs.

I'll try to get work at a restaurant. That's a decent plan.

I quickly gave up on that idea, considering how many times I've been fired from restaurants. I just couldn't get the job right, something always went wrong there.

I grinned, clenching my fist.

Firmly, I swung my fist up into the air.

Hey, life. Screw you.

Sticking my tongue out, I taunted the night sky. This very second, I had decided something. I was going to live out a happy life here, even if I had to struggle a bit first. This was my promise to myself.
