Chapter 44

Connor

MY mate lay motionless beside me in our bed. Reclaiming her through the mark brings different reactions from her. Sometimes, she would be in pain. Other times, it won’t even bother her. But today was new; she passed out a few seconds after I bit her in front of the packhouse.

I was sitting on the chair beside our bed, carefully watching her. I braced my elbows on my knees, scooping my fingers through my hair.

“Connor.”

I immediately looked up to see Tara awake. She was staring back at me. I gently took her hand on mine.

“How are you feeling?” I asked.

Tara moved to sit up. “I’m fine, just a little tired. What happened?”

“You passed out.” I tugged the comforter closer to her. “I managed to catch you before you fell. Wasn’t expecting you to faint like that.”

She shifted her gaze from my face to her lap. “I don’t know what happened. I remembered that you bit me, but that was it.”

“I’m sorry.”

“There’s no need to apologize, Connor,” Tara disagreed.
