Chapter 21

Tara

DISAPPROVAL covered Connor’s face as he lifted himself away from me. Disapproval because he finally saw that his Delta could be a suspect or because his mate continued to dwell on this topic, that I do not know.

“Tell me, don’t you have an opinion of Charles, not just as a friend or as the pack Delta, but as a man?” I pried.

“Stop making assumptions,” Connor answered, frustrated.

I paused, struggling with my emotions as I wanted to speak out more about this. I don’t really know Charles. The one time I’ve been left alone with him was when he accompanied me around the pack. He didn’t say much the whole time we were together; he would only answer when asked. I think he was more focused on acting as a guard than as a tour guide.

“Let’s go down. Luke is here,” Connor said and stood up.

I looked out the window to see that it was dark. We went to the border of South Forest in the afternoon. I guess it was a couple of hours after we got back.

“Tara.”
