"How will I know? All I was doing was just sitting quietly and minding my own business. Then mom came and hit me with a broom. Now you are holding my collar and demanding me to know why your herbal garden was destroyed," Mila shamelessly asked her and shrugged her shoulders as if she had no idea how her plants got smashed.
'Even if I had done it, I will never accept that I am the one who destroyed your plants. I very well know what will happen next. So, whatever may happen, I am never going to take any responsibility for those smothered plants,' Mila thought and stood there with a straight face.
"Mila, you are totally useless! How could you cause so much damage and still stand there with no guilt on your face?" Luisa was appalled by her sister's attitude.
"Do you know how much it costs me to collect all these precious herbs? You won't get these easily anywhere, not even in the black markets nowadays. I had to travel to several places and beg a few of the other witches in town. You don't even know the trouble I had to go through to get them and now you just went ahead and wrecked everything in a few seconds. Don't you feel a little remorse at all?" Luisa got disgusted by her younger sister's behavior.
Mila squatted near the herbs and looked at their pitiful appearance. 'I am sorry for being so shameless. But if I accept that I destroyed you all, then my sister would remove my skin and she will make a new potion out of it,' She spoke to the crushed plants in her mind.
She then glanced at Luisa and said, "Look, they are not completely dead yet. They will grow back soon if you water them properly. Also, don't you think these parts of the plants were already wilted a long time ago?"
She pointed her fingers at the end of the garden where few of the plants had actually shriveled from a couple of days. Before Mila could examine more and produce her results, Luisa knocked on her head. So, she stumbled and fell face first on the muddy soil. When Mila got up, she had mud all over her body.
"What is wrong with you? Why did you push me, Luisa?" Mila shouted and tried to pick a fight with her sister.
Before Luisa could respond, she saw her mother rushing towards them. So, she held a sad face and let Mila grab her arm with muddy hands.
At that moment, her mother, Rubina who had just fixed her broom came near them. She pushed Mila away from Luisa and said,
"I hope I never had a daughter like you. You are nothing but only trouble. Do you even know that those herbs were supposed to be sold to a client this evening?"
"But Mom, they were already dead and not so fresh. Also, it was Luisa's mistake for not taking care of them properly! Anyway, If you did not chase me, mom, then all these could have been avoided…" Before Mila could not finish her sentence, a loud ear piercing slap landed on her cheek.
"Shut up! Stop blaming others for your mistakes," Luisa screamed at her sister and then walked away from there holding her mother's hand.
"Mom, forget about her. We already know how she is and it would be of no use even if we tell her to change as she would never listen to us. Let us just think that she was just like old broken furniture which we could not get rid of even if we wished to," Luisa said while gritting her teeth.
"Old broken furniture? Me? Am I now an old broken piece of furniture?" Mila mouthed those words as her eyes twitched in rage once again.
She tried to control the tears that were about to roll down her eyes because of the slap Luisa gave her just a minute ago. She then held her almost swollen, burning cheek and made a decision which she thought was a very wise resolution at that moment.
She made a decision to leave that house for good. 'If they don't want me then I don't want them too!' That's what she thought at that time.
She firmly decided that leaving the house was the only way to escape from the hell she was living in. So, without wasting any time, she implemented that decision she made and left the house that same day without informing anyone.
'Who do they think they are? They all will feel sorry sooner but I won't be there to accept it,' She muttered while stealing all her mother's and sister's valuables and savings from their room.
She then stormed out of their house when everyone was busy trying to figure out a way to nourish the herbs back to health using their magical skills in the backyard.
After successfully running away from her home, Mila, at first was very confused on where she should go next. Since her family did not have any close relatives or friends, she found that the world she was living in was too huge and she could not decide on just one location.
Slowly, she walked to the bus stop and got into a random bus that showed up first. She then bought the ticket to the last stop and dropped her tired body on the corner seat at the back of the bus. Slowly, the place she was familiar with drifted away from her eyes and green scenery occupied it.
Before she knew it, she had dozed off and started to have a very sweet dream. She was enjoying being with an attractive young prince charming and everyone around her was jealous of her fortunate fate. She even had a smirk on her lips when she saw her sisters kneeling in front of her and asking for her mercy.
In her dream, she said, "I knew this day would come but I never thought that it would be so soon. I, Mila, forgive you all for your sins. Ha ha ha… ha ha ha… ha… ha ha..."
By the time she finished laughing, she felt a sudden change in her environment. Slowly, she opened her eyes and found that she was not with her prince charming anymore.
She woke up only to find that the bus she took was halted in the middle of a forest. There was no one inside the bus and even the driver was missing from his seat. She slowly walked towards the front of the bus and got down the stairs.
"Where did everyone go?" She wondered and examined the area with her lively eyes.
The sun was setting down and the place gave an eerie feeling because of the dense trees and its lush surroundings.
Suddenly, Mila had an urge to pee and so she rushed into the forest to take care of her nature's call. After walking a few meters and checking the surroundings to see that no one was near her, she pulled her pants down and enjoyed the relief.
"Ahh! Finally, I could feel at ease…" She mumbled and climbed down the small hill only to find that the bus was long gone.
