Two days had passed and the D-Day for the Luna to decide what to do with the baby. Elizabeth was still bewildered about the Luna being so indecisive about that, she could have handed it over to the orphanage home, without thinking twice, like it is done or better still hand it to any childless woman who wishes to keep it.
Agnes sat at the corner of the small but neatly arranged room, with the baby placed firmly on her lap as she fed her.
You could tell she was already full because Agnes put the last spoon of food in the baby's mouth which it spilled out immediately and began to cry restlessly unlike before.
"Alright I would take her now, I'm supposed to be there before afternoon" Elizabeth said carrying the child into her arms.
She waited for some minutes before heading to the white Castle, where the alphas and prominent people of the pack stayed.
It was very magnificent, standing out tall at the centre of the city. It was painted in white all over and had ten thick pillars at the front.
The castle was said to have be built several years ago and was renovated and painted every three years, with the same colour.
After one of the guards checked if she had any appointment with the Luna that day, she was allowed in and the baby was brought before her again.
"I want you to keep it, I have decided that you take it home and care for it" Luna Ashley said finally after some minutes of silence.
"Really? Elizabeth asked looking astonished. She had thought they were going to take it to the house they kept children who didn't have families until they grew up to become servants.
"Yes. You are the only one I so much trust that could take good care of her like your own. I would provide what she needs for now"
"Alright, I promise to take good care of her" Elizabeth replied without a second thought. After all, it was the Luna's wish and she dated not go against it.
"You may leave now" Ashely said dismissing her and returning to her room.
Elizabeth had been childless for so long and after many years of sorrows and visiting different places to know the cause of the barrenness and see if anything can be done, she was finally blessed with beautiful Agnes who was growing up into a young girl and now she couldn't help but wonder if this was another gift and blessing from the gods.
As she got home, she met Agnes sitting outside the house. She rose up to meet her mother immediately she sighted her.
"Mother? What happened? Agnes asked as she ran towards her with questioning looks.
"She asked me to go home with it and take care of it" Elizabeth replied. The sun became brighter and hotter almost immediately she got home. She sat down on the wooden chair at the front of the house, thanking her stars that she had already gotten home before the son became harsh.
"Wow really? So I have finally had a sister as I always wished" Agnes exclaimed smiling brightly as she clapped her hands, filled with joy.
"Emm, maybe" Agnes replied.
"Will I take her to learn with me? She asked taking one of the baby's hands as she smiled sweetly at her.
"Ahh Agnes, she is still very tender. Now go and boil water for me, will you? Elizabeth said rolling her eyes. Agnes ran into the house at once to boil the water like she was told.
After some minutes she came to join her mother outside again.
"Mother, what would we call her? She has no name" Agnes said taking the baby from her mother as she cradled it to her chest.
"I don't know yet. Is salome good? Elizabeth asked smiling.
"Emm...but mother, it's rather too old fashioned, let me think of a pretty name that'll be good for her" Agnes said placing her hands on her chin, thinking.
"Hahaha, is that so...that was your late grandmother's name" Agnes replied laughing softly.
"Diana, I think Diana would fit her" Agnes said finally aftet some minutes. Diana was the goddess of beauty, also responsible for making young women fertile. A long time ago, she was said to have appeared to a young woman who was in distress by the river side.
The young woman was being maltreated by her husband's family because she was barren and couldn't give her husband children. One day she was weeping beside the great river Avalon, when the goddess appeared to her and granted her her wishes.
Since history of wolves, she had only appeared two three people who had seen her clearly in her glory and one them was the childness woman and it was said that she was very beautiful to behold.
"Diana is the goddess of beauty and fertility...the name suits her perfectly, let's call her Diana then" Elizabeth said and just immediately, thunder struck so loudly, that it made them deaf for some minutes.
Agnes jumped on her mom's body in fear hugging her tightly that the baby almost fell from her arms if she was not careful.
"What was that? Agnes said after she finally found her voice. Something strange like that had never happened before and it was not raining and there was no sign that it was going to rain anytime soon.
"I don't know, but there's something about this thunder, like...it's very strange. There's more to it than meets the eyes" Elizabeth said folding her legs.
"Did you notice it came immediately after you mentioned that we would start calling her Diana" Agnes said pointing at the baby who kept sucking on her tiny fingers.
"Yep, perhaps i it could be a coincidence" Elizabeth replied even though she knew she was lying, she didn't just want Agnes to be scared or worked up. It had thundered immediately she mentioned "Diana, no doubt and she knew deep down that if was not coincidental.
"Maybe it wants to rain very soon" Agnes concluded going back inside to check on the water she had put on fire.
That night in her dream, Elizabeth saw a strange woman in tears, asking her to take care of her child and not abandon her like she did. As she wanted to speak to the woman and ask her what she was talking about, she found out she had lost her voice completely and couldn't speak up, and just then, the woman vanished.
She work up in a start soaked in sweat even the the weather wasn't hot. Sitting up on the bed, She glanced at the Diana who was sleeping peacefully in between her and her daughter.
Whatever the reason was, she somehow knew this child would change her life, either for good or bad, whichever way, but she was going to take care of her like her own for now.
The native cock crowed loudly and it was already five o'clock in the morning. The night was rather too short and she hadn't realized it was already morning until now. It had been only series of strange dreams which had connections to Diana.
Whatever it was she knew Diana was not an ordinary child, but somehow she wasn't scared of keeping her. She was also such a sweet baby and never really gave her any trouble or cried unnecessarily like babies do.
"Mom you are up? Is something wrong? Agnes said standing up and coming to seat beside her her.
"No, not at all my dear, when did you wake up? Elizabeth said hugging her.
"Not long ago" Agnes replied smiling.
"Now, go back to sleep dear, Will you? Elizabeth replied.
