“It was too soon,” he grimaced. “Give it time.”

“I don’t think I’ll live long enough.”

“Ryan’s mad at me. He promised Car we wouldn’t interfere, but I didn’t promise anything.”

“It doesn’t matter. It’s over. I just have to convince myself of that. It’s hard sometimes.”

Then he tried to find a good side. “Well, one thing positive has come of this; you’re a lot more confident since you’ve been on tour. It seems you’ve begun to accept that you’re beautiful.”

“That was one of the hard parts. I was teased when I was young because I had braces and a lisp. I was a mousy little thing. My mother made me take speech lessons and I hid behind my cello.”

“I’m glad you’ve come out of hiding.”

“I had to…to survive. I don’t know if I ever told Car about that.”

“And you still love her,” he stated.

I could only nod. “I always will.”

“Then fight for her, Chris. Fight tooth and nail. Don’t let her get away.”

“I can’t. She made it very clear that she doesn’t want me anywhere in her vicinity.”
