Chapter 25

“Ma’am?” I heard. I looked up. The pool attendant was handing me a towel.

“Thank you.”

I rubbed the water out of my hair and straightened it back with my fingers. When I looked up, Car was smiling at me. I got up and walked over to where they were.

“You look spectacular,” Ryan said, looking me up and down.

“Yes, you do.”

I reached out and kissed her. The look in her eyes was melting me. When I backed away, the bartender was handing me a drink. I downed a mouthful. I was torn. I loved the look in Car’s eyes. Should I go make love to her right now? But if I did, she might think I was running away to hide from all the eyes around the pool. Yes, she may think that was the reason…but it wasn’t…at least most of it.

We ended up staying there for an early dinner before we went to the cocktail party.

“It seems you’re the talk of the island,” Car said the next morning. She handed me the local paper. The gossip column folded out.
