Chapter 12

I woke the next day, just in time to shower, don my black outfit, and kiss Car goodbye.

“Give me a call tomorrow morning,” she whispered.

“All right, Have a great day,” I said as I raced for my car. 5

I again drove to her house that Monday night as she’d requested. This time I didn’t have to buzz at the gate, nor ring the front doorbell. I now knew the code to open the gate and I parked my car in a spot behind the house and entered though the kitchen door. Judith was there. She smiled at me when I entered.

“Make her happy,” she warned me as she shook a wooden spoon at me, “or I’ll poison your food.”

“I live to make her happy,” I assured her.

“Good.” She handed me a plate of tiny quiches. Her voice softened. “Take these up with you.”

I saluted her and left. I walked out onto the terrace but Car wasn’t there. I could see she was in the bedroom, so I gave a soft knock and entered.
