"I am BORED!"
"I am really impressed that didn't freak out until now" I was genuinely impressed. After the day of our talk, we got a lot closer, and if there is something that he hates to the core is being bored, and training definitely isn't a form of entertainment.
"All we did for an eternity was training, training, and more training!"
"Aren't you the one that proposed and designed our training?"
"I did! And it was fun at the start when you were struggling and all"
"Making people suffer amused you?" I was getting annoyed.
"Of course not... But you will understand one day, there was one time when I and my mother were on a hill preparing lunch when I stumbled on a rock and fell from the hill. When I made it back up she started laughing so hard that she couldn't eat anymore"
"..."
*sigh* Evan has a bad sense of time and being in a dark cave didn't help much. Because of the birthday event, I know how much time passed.
It's been Three years since we fell into the hole. Now I am six, and Evan is sixteen. But he still thinks he's thirteen.
It's surprising how fast time passes when you are focused on something, in these three years of training I learned all four types of footwork Evan created, the Basic Steps, Shadow Steps, Assault Steps, and Natural Steps. Though we don't use the Basic Steps, it's just to build a base for the other three.
I spent the whole three years practicing the three types of footwork, and just yesterday I could say that I properly learned them.
Another thing that I and Evan, improved a lot was the breathing technique. We can say to have completely mastered the technique. It reached a point where I only need one breath, and the air would be enough for a whole hour.
It improves the efficiency and consumption of energy. I was really, surprised and liked the fact that I almost didn't need to breathe anymore.
Evan, on other hand, as the creator of the breathing technique was unsatisfied. He said that it wasn't what the technique was supposed to do and started to work on another breathing technique.
"Little brother, shouldn't it be time for you to get yourself a name? I can't go around calling you little brother all your life can I?"
"I... Haven't thought about that, just anything will do I guess"
"No, it's a very important matter. The name is more than just letters, it represents ourselves and our soul. At least it was what my mother said"
"But can I? Names are supposed to be chosen by our parents right?"
"How about this..." He picked up a lot of rocks and crushed them to get all of them about the same size, then he wrote something on each one of the rocks.
"All the rocks have a different letter in them, we will put them in a box and you will pick them randomly until something good pops out!"
"Didn't you say it was something important? Why do I feel like you just want to have fun?"
"Come on... Start to pick them up" He said, ignoring my words.
*sigh*
I reached my arm for the box and started to pick the rocks. Soon, in the ground, the rocks formed a name.
*GIUSEFI*
"HAHAHAHAHAHA" Evan couldn't contain his laughter.
Veins formed on my forehead, showing my annoyance. But I kept picking up the rocks to form anything decent that can at least be called a name.
*FOUAJHNLDLFE*
*FONXJFDA*
*JOINUFEDH*
*FOJEJUHR*
I looked at the last piece of rock in my hand and with all my strength threw it to the ground to express my frustration, forming a 3-meter hole in the ground.
"I am done with this thing!!"
"Hehe, calm down, calm down... let me try" Evan said with a smirk on his face.
He picked up the scattered rocks and formed a word.
*ALEXANDER*
"This one is good, right?"
"That doesn't make sense at all! You are cheating"
"Just because you are bad at it doesn't mean I'm cheating"

One year later...
The training room in the Temple.
We were staring at each other, preparing for our daily spar when Evan shouted.
"Start!"
Both of our bodies disappeared and all that was visible in the room was the large masses of air swaying violently through the isolated space.
They are the shockwaves from the punches of two kids.
We are using the Shadow Steps, it's a footwork that relies on speed. The sequence of steps performs currents in the air that blurs the space around and then it uses high-speed advances, covering the user to make him appear invisible.
Shadow Steps is high-tier footwork that puts a lot of stress on the body, but nothing compares to the pressure on the brain. The number of precise movements and calculations needed for it to work is inhuman even for mage standards, maybe high elves would be able to use the first two steps of the footwork but using the complete set would kill them immediately for overtaxing. Obviously, Evan and Alexander didn't know about it because of the miserable amount of common sense the two have.
After fifteen seconds of sparing, I couldn't continue anymore. I fell to the ground and started to roll while holding my head.
I couldn't use the Shadow Steps for more than fifteen seconds, my whole body is shivering and my head feels like it's gonna explode. Evan wasn't in much better shape either, he was a little better than me but he still fell to the ground.
"Haaaaah, why do we still do this thing?" Evan said with a ragged breath.
"You said that... Haaa! Don't make me think now!" When I tried to think in this state, the pain increased drastically.
We were reduced to this state, but we couldn't land even one punch on each other. That shows the capability of the footwork. If I fight against something with a lower or equal speed than me, the Shadow Steps can make quick work of it.
I could punch someone in the face with all my strength before he could even see me, but if I fight something that is way faster than me, the Shadow Steps became useless. It simply doesn't work.
After some time, my head was still burning, but I could think properly now.
"Hey Evan, shouldn't we try to kill that thing by now?"
"I never fought a level 5 before, and we are not in hurry, are we?"
"..."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Later that day. I was sitting at the border of the lake, relaxing, my eyes staring at the dark ceiling of the cave. I liked to spend time looking at the ceiling. I don't know why but it gives me a relaxing feeling.
Evan just finished fishing and approached me.
"Alexander, do you wanna play chess?" Evan stopped calling me little brother for some time by now. I kinda miss it.
"..."
"Hey, are you okay? You have been dozing off a lot lately"
"Just thinking, nothing special, really"
"You know that our score in chess is still 24567 for me and 0 for you right?"
"..."
"Okay, tell me, what is going on? You would be freaking out by now if you were just thinking so spill it out"
"... Before we met there was someone I needed to kill. But then I got trapped here. Time passed and my memories started to get fuzzy. Now I don't know what to do anymore"
My hand unconsciously folded my head. I wasn't used to this. Emotions of guilt, sadness, and anger are all mixed up. Not knowing why I felt like this was driving me crazy.
Evan put his hand on my head and started folding it slowly.
"So you lost someone important to you too right?"
"..."
"I may not be an expert in this kind of thing but maybe I can help out a little... Let me tell you what I did" He said with a kind and sad smile.
