The Bridge

They travelled through out the night without stopping for fear that the thug's might still be on their trail. They arrived at the Manhattan bridge. "The butcher wasn't kidding. This bridge is really old", said Grim. "Yeah, no shit",snorted El. "We have to travel lightly and slowly, the bridge is very long and narrow too". "Great. I can finally finish this meat we paid so much for", said El. They built a bonfire to heat up the meat again before eating. Then they had some rest before it was time to cross the bridge. "Done offloading?",asked Grim. "Yh", said El. "Alright, here goes nothing". I'll go first, you'll follow me from behind", said Grim. "Cool". "Easy girl, Easy girl. Steady!", said Grim to his horse. "Your really should calm her down or she'll be the death of us",said El. "I'm trying, I dunno what's wrong with her. I think she's scared of heights". "And she has every right to be. This shit is so high up from the lake. They were only halfway to the end of the bridge when the horse's phobia of heights got worse and it began to loose control. "Easy girl, Calm down!Calm down! Hey!Hey!!". "THWACK!". One of the horse's hooves broke through the bridge planks and they were stuck. That also meant there was more weight and the ropes that held the bridge together started snapping. "That's not good!",said El. "Quick, help me pull her out",said Grim. "Push from behind, I'll pull from the front". The ropes were snapping faster. "Grim! There's no time, hop on my horse, let's go". "Almost there.....Okay! She's out! Let's go!". It was one hell of a race that they desperately needed to win as the bridge was shaking and falling apart , so shaky that it made the bag that the gem was inside to fall into the lake. "The Gem, Nooo!!", yelled Grim. "Don't slow down, keep going ", yelled El. They made it to the other side before the whole bridge collapsed. "Oh my God, No!No!No!Noo!. The gem's gone what're we going to do?",exclaimed Grim. "Damn. we were almost there", said El. "No,No we can't give up",said Grim. "Well what're you going to do Grim?You heard the merchant, it's priceless for priceless",said El. "We're going. I'll think of something",said Grim. "Well it'd better be a good idea or else we're done",said El. "Next stop, the Kimalyan Lake".
