Chapter 19: Dangers On The Horizon

Meanwhile at the King's Palace of the capital Evergreen. In a beautiful garden, there exists a table and seats. A man seeming to be in high position sips his cup of tea. While a man in glasses stood beside him.

"Lovely day, isn't it?"

"Indeed, my King"

"That's nice. Let's hope that every day is as peaceful as this one"

Footsteps could be heard running from the castle's hallways.

"T-Troubleee!!!"

"Spoke to soon, my King"

"Ugh... Of course I did"

"Y-Your highness!!!!" The terrified looking man in iron armour knelt down.

"So? What's the matter? It must be a good one this time for you to ruin my tea time"

"M-M-M-Majesty!"

"Don't shout my name like that and stand up would you?"

"Calm yourself, soldier!"

"U-U-Umm... I have received a report! And it's a bad one!"

"If it's about random lumberjacks accidentally cut down some sleeping Treants then contact the Fairy Queen saying that we were sorry and will compensate for the-"

"N-No, it's not that!" The knight took a deep breath for continuing "Our scouts reported to have seen a man in dark robe holding a staff looking suspicious with three monsters: Warrior Skeleton, Vengeful Zombie and a white hollow firgue"

"That would be a ghost it seems" the man in glasses added.

"Y-Yes! And they were near the border far west! In a forest!"

"Hm? So what? If they do no harm then it's fi-"

"Not entirely, your majesty! The report I gave you was from 4 days ago! We've been monitoring them and they terrorised a nearby village!"

"Did you vacuate the village?"

"Y-Yes we did! After that we tried to fend off those monsters b-but all of us were killed"

"...!"

"W-What meant was... When we got close to the radius of that man, we got chills and saw how we died multiple times. I was still standing but I was shivering. When I looked back... the whole squadron got knocked out and when I turned around. He was in front of me. But before knocking me out, he said this"

"*Gulp*"

"What did he say?"

"'I am Demon Lord Ling! Remember my name and relay my message back to your Kingdom! I'm coming to fight for the rights of lower level beings!' and knocked me out with his staff"

"*Spittttt* A-A Demon Lord?"

"..."

"W-What should we do, your majesty?"

"Bak! Hell if I know! We've been at peace for who knows how long! And there has been no more sightings of some random demon becoming one for at least a couple of thousands of years!" The King slams his fist on the table deeply concerned "If this threat is real then no time to waste! Cedric!"

The man pushes his glasses up "Yes, my King?"

"Contact every S-rank adventurers and tell Reena to train the knights in the Kingdom every waking hour!"

"Yes my King! Now brave knight, I'll take you to the infirmary"

"T-Thank you, King's adviser Cedric..."

Cedric leaves with the knight to let the King think.

Meanwhile at Drunken Fishen on an island far off west of main land

"Chug! Chug! Chug! Chug! Chug! Chug!"

"*Gulp* *Gulp* *Gulp* *Gulp*"

"Bahh!... Damn old *hic* man! You sure know your liquor!"

"Bahahahahaha! You're still a young lad! There's no way you could me in a drinking competition!"

"*Hic!* Listen 'ere old guy! You may not believe this but *hic* I got transported from my world to *hic* this hellscape!"

"U-Um, Tyrone? I think you drank too much"

"Nonsense! *Hic* I didn't get my godly power just for show! Listen ol' man! I got this weird skill called 'Drunkyard' right up my alley! I drank *hic* way too much and then died, hahaha!"

"Bahahahahahaha! I don't know even know what yer saying! But if you die just from drinking then you're not worth to compete with me!"

"Hey hey! *Hic* Just let me drink, alright? By the way how does this title sound for an anime? 'Got Transported To Another World As A Max Level Drunker' eh?"

"Bahahaha! You say some weird things! But I liked it! Reminds me a lot of a certain someone! But anyway, cheers! To living a good life!"

Meanwhile in a village hospital on an island far off east from the main land. A girl resting her elbows on a window sill looking out to the ocean.

"I wonder how everyone's doing..."

"Hey Helen! We just got a report that monsters started attacking again! Five men were wounded! We need you asap!"

"Coming!"

*Sounds of an army marching*

An army of undead is marching forward through the thick forest with a man in black robes holding a staffs in front leading them. He made a stop at a nearby village mixed with humans and goblins with something in mind.

Meanwhile back in the palace where the King of Evergreen lives. A man known as Cedric is heading out of the castle to the Adventurer's Guild with a nervous but happy expression.

At the Adventurer's Guild a party is being brewed.

"Hahahaha! I didn't know Troy was the type to settle down with a flat chest woman!"

"Yeah! This must some type of joke, right?"

"Sorry folks but I've finally found the right woman for me!"

"B-But how about me! Do you remember our passionate night?"

"Yeah! Me too!"

"Me three!!"

"You sure settling down with him was the right choice?"

"Of course... And also thanks for your encouragement, I really needed that push..."

"Heh I don't need any thanks for a good job well done"

"What I am about to tell you is something that I've been keeping for a long time and have only told to one other person before..." Goberin made a *Gulp* sound just as Kokoharu said that, "Did you remember what I told you about my weapon broke instantly?"

"Yeah?"

"Well after it broke... My money was gone too"

"W-What?!"

"Yep... All of it. Throughout my journey with Troy, Helen and Hector... I've been thinking and making up theories as to why it had happened but the only reasonable one was that... The Goddess or someone pretending to be one made a link between the money you picked and the weapon linked"

"W-What do you mean by that?" Kokoharu then took a deep breath and drank some beer before continuing, "Well consider this... Why did the Goddess offer a range of money that you picked from and not give you her chosen amount?"

"Um..."

"For my theory, it seems like any skill or weapon you chose, in this case its power and effectiveness, would be decided by the amount of money you picked! The more money you picked, the less powerful the weapon or skill is and vice versa"

"Ohhh! But why?"

"I don't know... But to my knowledge of adventuring for the past 3 years plus my 2 years of teaching, I haven't encountered someone whose sum is lower than 2k of gold coins"

"Hmm..."

"It's something to think about... It's a trade off of some sort, you get more powerful if you have less money. Well that's it from me..."

"Thank you for that information"

"Yo, young Goberin! Don't you be hitting on my wife now!"

"T-Troy! I would never!"

"Troy! come here~" Kokoharu said while stretching her arms out at him. Troy then embraced her kissing her on the forehead. "Hey! Give me back my wine~" Troy starts to down on her cup of beer.

"Bah! Now that's some good beer! Now everyone! For this joyous occasion of mine, I invite you all to the bar next door! And it will be on me!" The both of them hugged each other while making a scene in front of others.

"Now that's more like it!" Everyone cheered.

It was a happy moment for all until the door to the Adventurer's Guild opened wide. A man with glasses walked in with a serious look on his face.
