Adopted Family

I'm not Grace Finley. I can't remember my name anymore. I'm afraid I might forget what my family looks like, I miss them. I need to go back to my life. I'm... I don't remember my name but I'm currently Grace Finley. I'm the Grand Princess of Valoria and I'm married. I need to find my way back home but the god that's supposed to show me the way is hiding from me. At least tell me why you brought me here, you stupid god! No form of insult, threat or blasphemy got me a response from him. Is he having fun watching me? Alright, let's keep that aside. Shouldn't the person who transmigrates, gets to have the memories of the body? Or shouldn't I at least know what kind of book did I end up in? A husband who has harsh words but kind gestures. A god who brought me here and went into hiding without telling me the reason. People who are trying to kill me for absurd reasons. A transmigration trip with no memory download option is truly a huge pain! Urgh! TRULY!

CH. 15 Abilities and Affection

Seth leaned back in his office chair and a sigh escaped him. His aide Jasper, stared at him for a long time before Seth finally gave up and looked back at him.

"My Wife, there's something about her that she didn't realise." Seth spoke.

"Do tell, Your Highness." Jasper pushed the glasses up his nose, a habit of his that he did whenever he was giving his full attention.

"She is very sensitive to her surroundings." Seth began his explanation excluding the fact that she was an outsider. It might be a side effect of her being an outsider but it was clear the first time he met her. She sensed his presence before he made himself known to her. She could sense him even when he concealed both his aura and mana. He should be invisible even in broad daylight but for her, he wasn't. And then there was the incident a few days ago.

He asked Lady Ellie for details but she didn't make a sound, refusing to reveal her master's secret. Seth felt relieved to see that there was someone who was loyal to her. He was sure she still felt alone in this world despite her cheerful and outspoken exterior.

Seth didn't react much when she bragged about her achievement but she deserved every praise. He asked the twins' guards to reiterate everything that happened that afternoon. From what he heard, Seth was sure his wife could conceal her presence. Her ability to do that was on par with his and he was a Disaster Class. Disaster Class was a class that was only assigned to Dungeons and Monsters. A human could be an S-Class and that was the limit. Once a person crosses S-Class then they should no longer be considered as human. And to fight a Disaster Class, at least three S-Classes were needed.

"Have you found the cause of this new development?" Jasper asked.

"I might have."

"Then how are you going to deal with this matter, Your Highness?" His aide asked.

"Deal? I'm not going to deal with it in any way." He replied leisurely.

"Are you sure that's a good idea? If she were to go back to her old self and to Verdant-"

"She won't." Seth immediately cut him off.

"Is there something you are not telling me, Your Highness?" Jasper asked, his eyes narrowed a little. Seth didn't say anything but it was enough for Jasper however his clever aide didn't question further.

Seth didn't want to say something wrong and let Jasper know that he was defending his wife and that he was willing to go far enough for her. To the woman who possessed his wife and the body of the spy the Verdant King put beside Seth. It wasn't that bad, He still had it under control.

Seth Peregrine just needed another year to stand against Verdant on equal strength. He didn't know how long the possession would last and when she would return to her world but she could buy him enough time. While she may be powerless when it came to Magic or swordsmanship, she was not someone who would betray him, he has odd trust in that matter. She would never let those Verdants order her around, instead, he could see her giving them a hell of a time in return. He laughed softly remembering the letter she wrote.

That's it, He wanted someone like her to stay in the Grand Princess' position until he had gathered enough power. That was why he was concerned about her more than necessary, He was getting desperate in his final lap. Just one more year.

He only wished she wouldn't write their bedroom matters in another letter and send it to the King of Verdant this time. He burst out laughing and then stifled his laughter after seeing Jasper stare at him like he's gone mad.

"I do not wish to ruin Your Highness' good mood but you might want to see this letter." Jasper placed a letter on his table and the Verdant Royal Seal on it glared back at him.

He clicked his tongue in slight annoyance as he tore open it without an ounce of delicacy one would exercise while opening a royal letter. It was a letter written by the queen herself informing them of the princess' trip to Valoria to acquire an important herb. It was a necessary medicine for the queen from a foreign merchant who would pass through Valoria on this trip across the continent. This was just a pretext.

"What are you going to do, Your Highness? Should I prepare like usual?" Jasper asked.

"No." Seth replied and a smile tugged at his lips. "Call for the Grand Princess."

A few minutes later, the Grand Princess was standing in his office reading the royal letter with a brow raised. She had her other hand on her waist and leaned her weight on one leg. Her actions were similar to that of his when he opened the letter, a little annoyed and a little bored. Once she was done reading, she broke out into laughter.

"This mother and daughter, what an adorable pair they are." Seth couldn't help the smile after hearing her. Her reaction was exactly like he thought.

"So what was the usual protocol?" She asked, waving the letter.

"We would let her stay in Your Highness' palace and then host a ball to welcome her in which His Highness would dance with her." Jasper answered to her.

"You cheat on me, I will dig your heart out." She narrowed her eyes at Seth but he smiled like she was whispering love notes to him.

"Cancel the ball. Have her stay in the guest palace for foreign dignitaries. I will see what tantrum she will throw in front of me. I'm someone who is well versed in throwing tantrums. Two can play this game. Besides, My palace is a home to my two little adorable boys. No one is allowed to mess with that peace. If she takes so much as a step inside that personal space, I will accuse her of something and have her executed." She handed the letter back.

"Ah, I should let the twins welcome her. It would be perfect considering their stations!" She said excitedly a second later, happy with the idea she came up with.

"I have to stop you there." Seth immediately put a stop to her plan.

"Do not worry. They are stronger than you think. They seem to take after their father." She spoke like it was the most obvious thing.

"I'm late to my tea appointment with the twins. See you later!" She turned to leave but Seth immediately stood up to follow her. His ears burned at her nonchalant comments like usual and he hoped she didn't notice how much they affected him.

"You are going to join?" She asked and he gave a nod.

"Then escort me there." She slung her arm around his. He didn't reject her and walked in stride with her.

"You should take care in front of the kids." Seth said after walking in silence for a while. It took him a while to recover from her comments.

"Whatever do you mean." She played fool.

"Like that day at the lake, I didn't want to decline your request in front of them so I obliged to carry you but it wasn't proper." He said contrary to the delight that welled up in his heart at the fresh memory.

"I do not think so. Besides, it was necessary. A few days before that I kicked you into the lake and then called you brute as you held me. We might know that it was just a silly squabble but the kids don't. How do you think they would feel if they saw their parents fighting? We might have our disagreements but it was not healthy for children to watch such sights. It was a fine opportunity that day to rectify my mistake from before." She explained and Seth nodded understanding. He too would rather kiss her than have her slap him in front of the kids.

"So even if we have our disagreements, let us not fight in front of the kids." She concluded.

"Alright." He agreed. "However I'm still waiting for your apology for kicking me into the lake." He gave her a pointed look.

"I don't owe you an apology." She stated and he scoffed at her attitude.

"You do. Think carefully, Wife. If you do then you would realise what you did." He insisted and she ignored him. They went back and forth like that as they made their way to their waiting children. Seth never thought he would get to experience such a harmonious family environment. But he wasn't complaining, he only wished it would last as long as it could.
