An unwelcomed suprise

I sat straight up. The room around me stood still in it's shadow as my eyes scoured it for something that wasn't there. What was it? What was in my dream? It felt so familiar, but I had never seen it in my life.

My uneven breath was the only thing to break the deafening silence of the empty darkness around me. I felt uneasy, but why? My dream was no threat to me now that I was awake in the safety of my own bed and yet I feel I am not alone.

"It is because you were never alone." stated a voice in a chorus of whispers. From where the voice came I could not tell.
