Caroline

It was the eve to my wedding day.

Like Clara would put it. Let's enjoy life together while you're still a single lady.

We went from places to places throughout the past days.

Places I have never been and never thought I'd be.

It was fun and as well odd.

Having a lot of fun among thousands of people wandering around the amusement park, seeing young high school girls having fun, seeing teens making out at every corner and seeing life in the ghetto was all new to me.

We went from clubs to clubs and went nearly to all bars in town.

I took a shot of whiskey and would never try it again. It ceased my throat the moment I gulped it down and my chest clenched in its place. My stomach whirled and my whole body felt hot. My eyes turned and my legs felt heavy. It felt like I was possessed by an evil spirit and mightn't be free even by an exorcism.

I explored though.

I saw new things. Things I wasn't exposed to that were outside my world.

It all was new to an introvert like myself.

"So, where are we going today?" I asked Clara who just walked out of the bathroom with her hair looking like a wet chicken's feathers.

I made a cup of coffee and passed hers to her. She likes it bitter but I love mine sweet. So odd for a person who likes to have fun.

"Leave that to your tour guide," she said and I smiled.

"Whatever, Ms. tour guide," I retorted, slurping the coffee and she shot me a glare.

"Do that on your man's cock not with my cup," she said and I almost choked on the drink, causing me to cough a few times.

"What the heck?" I managed to say as I tried to clear my throat and she laughed.

I burped again and she threw the towel in her hand at me and I laughed.

Her phone rang and she excused herself to speak which was so unusual of her but then, we respect eachother's privacy even though her room was like mine and vice-visa.

I gulped down the remaining content in the cup I was holding and laid back in bed, staring at the ceiling.

A lot of thoughts played through my mind. Particularly Richard's words, none of which sat well with me.

I felt through his aura which he was wearing to seem intimidating but deep inside, I could sense it was all a facade. It was all my thought. I could be wrong and could be right. He does seem like a cool person appearing only to be intimidating even though our first encounter was a disaster.

I turned on my side to feel a little more comfortable and something sticking out of the lower drawer caught my attention.

I sat up and stretched to open the drawer when Clara came in.

"I have to go somewhere right now. I'll be back soon," she appears uneasy.

I walked up to her as she rushed to put some clothes on.

"What's going on?"

"It's nothing much. I just have to sort some things out,"

"Some things you can't tell me?"

"Carol. I will be back soon," and so, she hurrried out.

I walked to the doorstep and watched her retreating back hurry away.

I walked back inside and was unsure of what to do since I was all by myself now.

I gulped down the remaining coffee in her cup which I immediately regretted the second it went down my stomach.

How could she drink something this bitter?

I put some clothes on and decided I was gonna go get pizza at the store that was down the street instead of ordering for one.

It was a little windy for a normal summertime in Detroit and my choice of clothe only proved to be against me. A fine thin layer of dress which could be blown up revealing a huge part of what's under was a nightmare at this point.

I could have gone for something more fitting but I wanted to feel more comfortable today since I was free from Clara's hold.

Finally, I got to the store and it was surprisingly packed. I made my order and waited for it with a glass of water.

"What's a beautiful lady doing, sitting by herself?" a young man who came or probably fell from the sky asked. I honestly didn't see him walk toward me.

I looked back to confirm he was speaking to me since there are a lot of people in here.

"Uhm...obviously waiting for my order," I answered unsure why he preferred to have a conversation with me out of the countless people in here.

"May I?" he asked, pulling out a chair and sitting, even before I answered.

"You obviously don't stay around here. I'd be damned if you do and we haven't met before now," he commented.

"I stay just around the corner,"

"Did you just move in?" he asked as he waited patiently for my response.

"I have been staying here for a while now," I replied and he nodded.

"I'm Derrick. I just moved here,"

"I'm Caroline. I'm a college student here,"

"Oh, Caroline. You have the same name as my grandmother. Although, she's late now,"

I nodded, uncertain whether to be glad he was the first person to ever call me Caroline the second I tell them my name or not to be since I share the same name with his dead grandma.

My order called to be ready and I was ready to discard Derrick.

"We'd see around often, Caroline," she said with a broad smile. A smile that got to his eyes, giving them more noticeable definition.

I smiled back at him, unsure of what to do instead.

He has a silver iris that made his pupil stand out. He has a quite long hair like a typical American young man which he folded in a tight bun.

He looked like a wrestler with his abs sticking out evidently in his tight shirt. He has a broad chest that made it hard for me to take my eyes off them. He has a great body complimenting his gorgeous face.

He looked at me with a smile and the way he pronounced my name made me love it.

"Bye, Caroline," he said before walking away.
