He wasn’t. He’d lost Emma, hadn’t he? And he’d almost lost Jesse. If John hadn’t made the suggestion about Guardian magic, he never would have thought of finding Foster. He wasn’t even going to think about some of the lengths he’d gone to do so. Jesse would never look at him the same if he knew.

Those were ghosts Gideon would live with. After all, a few dozen more would hardly put the prisons of his past in danger of overcrowding.

But Jesse was here now. They were together. He was healed, and even if Michelle had inflicted her choice upon him, at least he was still alive. There was the issue of what to do with Dominique, but Gideon would deal with it as he needed in the morning. Whatever Jesse wanted.
