New World, New Life

Jakub, Emily, Nicole, President Caladrius, and Nurse Light all sat in the Infirmary silent. Jakub had no idea what had everyone so tense. Emily couldn't believe that the two of them, the two from another world had the unknown soul types. Nicole sat silently waiting for someone to speak. President Caladrius who we know as Viktor, began whispering to Nurse Light.

Jakub decided he'd be the one to break the silence. "So is anyone going to tell me why you all yelled HUH!?!? And then just got silent?"

Emily attempts to describe it to him. "Well the type of soul I am and the type of soul you have are two that nobody has ever seen here before. Apparently we ended up with the-"

Jakub and Emily stopped for a moment in the middle of the conversation because they both felt the presence of a reaper and it instantly vanished. Almost if someone was in and out of the room in a flash.

"You felt that right?" Emily asked Jakub.

Jakub nodded. "It's the same feeling I felt while fighting the man on the roof."

Nurse Light interrupted, "You guys were in a fight? Who were you fighting?"

"I helped Emily take care of some guy that was getting too hands on with her. Right Emily?"

Jakub looked at her and winked.

Emily agreed. "It's true… he wouldn't leave me alone and Jakub stepped in to stop him. Actually that's how we met."

Nurse Light sighed. "That's actually a sad but kind of cute story."

Emily blushed.

Jakub noticed her blushing and thought that she was really good at acting. How did she make herself blush?

"Well in any case it's getting late and you two should head home, you too Nicole. I'll be home after me and Nurse Light have a chat." Said Viktor.

The three of them nodded in agreement and walked out of the Infirmary. Emily told Nicole that they honestly had no place to go. Nicole told them both that if they would like to, her home has spare rooms that they could borrow for the time being. Emily kindly accepted this gesture from Nicole. Nicole told them that she would get a hold of their driver to give her a minute. She then walked away to make a phone call.

Jakub turned toward Emily. "So what in the hell is going on? What is a white soul? Who is Nicole?"

Emily sat on the curb and looked up at Jakub. "Well… Nicole actually is the first person I met here. When I transferred here I was put on the roof of the university as a fresh high school graduate just like I asked. I looked around noticing the differences between this world and my last, especially the soul mana abilities everyone had."

"Soul mana, that's what Elena told me about." Said Jakub.

The two sat conversing while Nicole was on the phone calling her driver. Emily informed Jakub of the meaning of soul mana and that she believed Elena's father had some nefarious plan behind gathering souls of humans from this world. She explained that the soul types he and her have are the two unknown types and the most rare of them all. Emily pulled the red shard she found on the roof out of her pocket and showed it to him.

"I have no idea what this is, but you can sense it too right? You can feel the pain?" Emily asked.

He nodded. "It's giving me chills. It feels like I'm building up the anticipation of a scary point in a movie."

"So are we from the same world?" Jakub asked Emily.

She shrugged her shoulders. "I'm honestly not sure. If we're on a futuristic version of our own world, that would mean the multiverse is real. Not in the parallel world sense but the fact that there are other versions of our universe in which we never existed. To be able to manipulate that… Elena has to be some sort of almighty being." She said leaning back, placing her hands behind her and looking toward the sky.

Jakub sat down on the curb to take everything in. "I'm from the year 2021 and I'm not exactly sure which world but I am from this city. In fact I went to this University for literally a day."

Emily laughed. "A day? What did you drop out?"

Jakub looked toward the ground between his feet. "No I actually… I was killed. I was on a date basically and was stabbed in the back by a jealous guy I thought was cool at first. Something did always seem a little shady though."

Emily covered her mouth and spoke through her hands. "I'm so sorry. I feel so stupid… that was insensitive. Of course you died how else would she have sent you here with me."

"Wait so you died too then?" Asked Jakub.

"Yeah… I did… I'm also from the year 2021 in whatever world I'm from. Some gangs were known for robbing places around the area I lived in Lotte. I left my apartment unlocked because I was late for work and in a hurry. I came home to drink with a friend to see my door open and a guy hiding in the bathroom tried to jump out on my friend. I got stabbed in the stomach trying to protect her." Emily explained.

Jakub reached his hand behind his head and laid back on the ground. "Look I don't know exactly what we're supposed to do here for Elena. But let's give it out all huh? Dying young sure as hell sucked… but we were given another opportunity. Let's make the most of it."

Emily smiled and agreed.

Nicole had finally finished getting a hold of their driver and walked back to the two of them. She told them the driver would be there in five minutes and then she was going to grab a drink, she asked if they wanted one. Both of them nodded and said cola please. Nicole smiled and walked to get them.

"You sure we're lucky to run into her right away, she's such a nice girl." Jakub told Emily.

Emily smiled. "She reminds me a lot of the girl that was my best friend in my past life."

"By the way… I love the tattoos." Said Emily while pointing at Jakub's arm.

Jakub smiled. "Thanks, I like yours too."

Nicole came back with their drinks and handed them to each of them. She sat between them and stared up in the sky. The three of them sat there drinking and watching the stars. The city was calm at night, it felt as if they had nothing to worry about. The giant diamond shining tower was changing colors. The black metal buildings corners were glowing red so that the cars didn't run into them. A few people here and there walked by as they left the school.

The driver arrived and the three of them sat in the back of the car with Emily in the middle.

"Let's go home." Nicole said to the man driving.

Jakub stared out the window as the car lifted off the ground and started hovering. It then elevated them up to 500ft where they could see over some buildings and they were on their way. He looked out at the vast city that would be their home for the future. He knows what Elena asked of him and Emily, but he couldn't help himself from wanting to be happy here. It was everything he ever imagined from being a sci-fi and superhero fan growing up. This was a world of cyber realism and comic books meeting.

The car landed out front of a mansion. The house was massive with some glass walls and some brick. It was a beautiful home and obviously a show of wealth. Two big palm trees stood tall on each side of the walkway that led to the front door. The grass was lit up with lights facing the walkway and front lawn.

"We are here ma'am." Said the driver, waking Nicole up who had fallen asleep on the way.

The three of them got out of the car and stood out front of the home.

"You said a few spare rooms, this house is massive." Said Jakub while staring in awe.

"Yeah well I mean there are a few spare master suites. Every room here is it's own master bedroom." Replied Nicole.

The three of them walked inside and were welcomed home by the maids. Nicole thanked them and asked them to show Jakub and Emily to their own rooms.

"I'll have them bring you a change of clothes to wear to bed and for tomorrow. We'll have a lot to discuss in the morning so I'm showering and heading to bed." Nicole told the two of them.

Jakub was taken to his room, he was shocked at the size of the room and that he had his own bathroom. He got in the shower and that's when it all hit him. Jakub broke down, tears started to run down his eyes. The frustration of the fact that he had actually died finally got to him. He had been holding it back the entire time. Trying to understand why it had to be him. Why he had to be killed that night. He couldn't bear the overwhelming thoughts anymore. After rinsing off, he found the change of clothes that had been brought to him, put them on and dropped onto the bed.

Emily was in the shower also and felt everything he did. All the pain of dying, the pain of feeling like you left everyone and everything behind. "It wasn't my choice…" she pleaded to herself. "I didn't want to die…" She continued to say weeping and sitting in the shower. I'm going to miss Paulina so much, she thought. Was it fate that brought me here? That brought me and him together? Emily continued thinking to herself while crying. After gathering her thoughts she got out of the shower, she changed into the clothes brought to her and laid face up on the bed.

"New World… New Life…" They both said to themselves in their rooms.
