A Noble Goal

Everyone has some kind of goal they deem noble. But does everyone see it the same way? To achieve your goal, what are you willing to do? Sacrifice your life? Or the lives of others? Would you do anything to achieve it? Going as far as to start a war? For this Noble goal, how much are you willing to offer? _____ “Chosen ones? That’s a fancy title, but in the end. It’s just a title.” A long time ago, innovation and creation ruled the world. Technology was everywhere, robots and holograms were the norm. However, creatures seen as demons and angels invaded. Human technology is unable to keep up with the supernatural. From manipulating elements to summoning weapons, they slowly lost to the invaders. However, all hope was not lost when humans themselves started to manifest such said powers. Even if it's weaker, they have technology to help them. Right? "Now now, why should I bow to others when I can make others bow before me!" Slowly, the divided human race started to show more cracks. Humans with different mindsets split, all having their own goal in mind, with new powers to back them up. Threats everywhere, but the solution for them doesn't seem to increase any time soon. "I don't want to live so divided anymore! Not only between humans, but the world as a whole." Such a bold idea was spoken after countless years, receiving little to no approval. However, that didn't discourage the brave soul. Causing him to keep finding like minded people. A demon heard of his action, and was fascinated by such a noble yet foolish mindset. "Human, your lifespan is limited. Leave it to the next generation, I shall help you search for those with such a mindset." Without thinking much, he agreed to pass on this Noble Mission to the future generation. Unaware of the demon scheme. ———————————— Chapter will be published every weekday 9 o clock GMT +8 , let me sleep in peace thank you. Save it to library to get notifications when I upload. Not a fairytale

Boom!

A lightning stuck in the middle of the night, the thunder that followed seemed to shake the earth awake.

"Aghh!" Reginald's eyes snapped open, as he gasped for air, feeling sweat dripping down his forehead.

He looked at his room ceiling, his chest raised up and down.

Before gradually slowing down, he slowly got up from his bed. Walking towards his table, he turned on the lamp light.

Looking at the sketchbook on his table, he opened to a blank page, grabbed a pencil and started doodling.

His mind wandered as his pencil didn't stop moving.

No, his mind didn't wander. His mind just felt empty of thoughts.

Without himself realising, the page slowly filled with lines, from lines two people were drawn.

One held the other arm, the other's arm was inside the other's stomach.

The person stabbed had another hand holding the culprit's head, while the culprit's head was lowered, the free arm holding the victim's arm.

= "Is this a curse or blessing?" A female voice spoke.

"Everything has its pros and cons. So this is both a curse and blessing." A very familiar voice sounded, "But you can always view it as more of a blessing than curse too." =

Words were spoken, but Reginald can't hear it. His eyes closed, face twitched in pain, as he dropped his pencil. He held his head, "Agh!"

A sharp piercing pain came, he could no longer understand what was spoken afterwards, but he could still vaguely hear things spoken, slowly becoming whispers.

Wiping away his blurry eyes, he saw a few drops of tears on the sketch, nearer to the figure faces.

He looked at the incomplete sketch.

The sketch looked almost completed, but the details wasn't drawn. Especially the face that was crossed off.

He stared at drawing. It felt as if he could see it happen in front of him. Like he was a third party, but at the same time, it felt as if he had experienced it.

Looking at his right hand, he clutched in, bringing to his chest. Feeling the heartbeat getting faster and faster, he slowly breathed in and out. Feeling his mind clearer, like the fog was slowly leaving his mind alone.

'Reincarnation, exists?' His gaze went to the window before both of his hands slapped his face, "What am I thinking? What if it doesn't? Or are there requirements for it?" He looked down at his sketch, "The lack of knowledge sure sucks." He muttered, his gaze going to his tablet.

He looked at the time and sighed, "It's twelve in the morning." The clock reads 0034.

He swiped open his tablet and went to the notes app.

He closed his sketchbook and started revising his notes.

In the middle of the night, an office was still lit up.

Inside the office, Lux was having her legs up on the table while smoking. The computer switched off as physical papers piled up at the corner of the table.

Knock knock.

She raised a brow and said, "Come in." She placed her legs down while putting out the cigarette in her hand.

Sezia came in and waved her hand while coughing.

"I see, not much of a smoker." She walked towards the window, "My apologies." She opened the window, she waved her hand, and the smoke in the room moved along with her commands, "What brought you here, Miss Sezia?"

Sezia took a seat on a black couch near the walls and said, "I still find it hard to believe what was told at the evening meeting."

"Of course, you've been raised as a dog. It's hard to believe the master who raised you would be so cruel." She glanced and saw Sezia's glare, "Don't you think so?"

"Take that back." She said, "They have no reason to keep it hidden." She sat up straight.

"No reason?" Lux slowly chuckled before laughing out loud, "No reason? Miss Sezia, are you hearing yourself now?" She slowly walked towards her, her head looking downwards at her, "Hm?"

Sezia gritted her teeth, avoiding her gaze.

"Now now, Miss Sezia. Is there anything else you need?" She slowly stepped back, walking towards her table.

Sezia slowly took a deep breath, "Proof. I want to see proof of what happened." She demanded, glancing at Lux.

"Proof? Miss Sezia, you must be joking!" Lux turned around with a glare, "Ain't we, the teachers. The best proof?"

"Who is to say that everyone didn't make up such a ridiculous story," Sezia quickly interjected, she stood up and met Lux's glare, "Proof or I shall think of this as just another fairy tale."

Lux hit the table, "Every tale holds some truth to it. It just gets twisted, to suit the audience."

"Proof it." Sezia stood her ground, as Lux gritted her teeth.

"Very well, you asked for it." She squatted down, and the sound of something being opened echoed in the room. Then a slam and the table shook a little.

She held a thick envelope as she stood back up, and threw it to Sarah.

"Let's hope the dog bites the owner." Lux smirked.

Sezia slowly opened the old yellowish envelope, taking out a picture.

Her eyes widened, and she quickly took out another photo. Before pouring out everything held inside on the couch.

She squatted down, browsing through, her body starting to shake more visibly.

"As I've said, it isn't a fairytale." Lux slowly walked over but stopped talking as she saw the photos she's been looking at.

Photos of what looked like people kept behind bars, a few with people wearing white coats in the bars holding who knows what.

"We've been experimented on, been through hell. This has to be the best proof." Lux said, standing beside Sarah.

"T-test subject 2499." Sezia suddenly said, "Do you remember who he is?" She picked up a few papers that looked like report cards.

"I don't remember numbers, except for test subject zero." Lux shook her head, "I do know that many of the subjects had died. Less than half survived. Even less is still mentally sane." She raised a brow, "Why?"

"Test subject 2499." She placed the papers down, which seemed to have crumpled a little in her hands, "Who is test subject zero?" She glanced at Lux, who was standing beside her.

Lux slowly sat down on the couch, "Although I've never seen him before, through the walls that separated us. He was the one that kept those around him sane. Telling jokes, stories he made up. Reminding us who we are." She looked up at the ceiling.

"But one day he just stopped talking, right?" Sezia slowly sat down too, looking at Lux whose eyes widened a little.

"How did you-."

Sezia started chuckling, "Lux, test subject zero is still alive, but I doubt he's sane after all that happened."

Lux closed her eyes before opening them again, "It doesn't matter what state he is in. I want to thank him if it wasn't for him. I won't have survived."

"Ah huh." Sezia slowly stood up, "Can I take some of the photos with me?"

"Go ahead." Lux waved her hand as she walked back to her table, "I have extra copies anyway."

"Then I shall take everything." She put everything back into the envelope, "Lux, I'm sure you know already. But we have to go in three days."

"Three days?" Lux's body turned sharply, "What do you mean three days? The intel was ga-."

"You trust people who are starving for revenge?" She chuckled, "Sorry, it's meant to be a serious question, but I can't control my laughter."

"Where's your proof then?" Lux's eyes narrowed, "This isn't a joke."

"Well, three days is just the maximum number of days. As for proof… let's see.." She took a few small steps forward as she threw the envelope up and caught it.

'W-wait, since when is she calling me in such a manner?' Lux just noticed Sezia didn't add Mdm to her name, "Hm? So where's the proof?"

"Sezia Rengal." She said, a smirk still on her face as she glanced at the computer, "Search it up, I'm sure you have access to Duerrin main network."

Lux turned on the computer and keyed in her I.D and password.

Sounds of keyboard clicking echoed in the room as Sezia threw the envelope up again. This time, the paper in them all flew out.

Lux hit the table, "Why did Duerrin send someone like you?" She yelled, "The wrong answer and you won't walk out of the door."

"You think," As she said, she used the envelope to catch the paper back inside, "You can threaten me? Test subject 1290." She caught a paper, and Lux's details was printed on it.

Sweat slowly formed on Lux's forehead, "So you already knew about Zone G?"

"I just…forgotten about it." Sezia shrugged as she kept the paper back in the envelope, "I've come on my own account, no one sent me. Pack up now, those I selected as students, inform them first. Who knows what will happen." She said, as she slowly walked towards the door, "Lux, you haven't reached your full potential either, so you are now one of my students too." She said as she opened the door and left it open.

'Full potential? What kind of potential does she see?' Lux looked at the profile on her computer.
