Rules

Annabelle snuck into the back of the classroom, trying to avoid Rou's gaze as she entered homeroom late. When he didn't say anything, she sighed in relief sitting upright in her chair.

"So, as I was saying today will be full class load, each of your teachers will give you a syllabus which you are expected to read on your own time. The only part they'll go over is their class rules." He leaned against his desk in front of the class, hands in pockets and legs crossed.

"Homeroom is where you'll come in the morning for announcements, or if you have issues that need to be resolved. I am also in charge of assigning tutors. If you want to request tutoring, ask me. If you don't want tutoring, but your teacher says you need it, sucks to be you, I'll be giving you a tutor and you'll be expected to meet with them."

"I'm also the person your teachers come to if you get in trouble. Personally, I like to give troublemakers community service projects." When the whole class groaned, he grinned.

"Hey at least I'm not making you write a two-hundred page essay on why you got in trouble, how you should have behaved, and how sorry you are that you wasted the teacher's time."

"Someone does that?" Someone asked.

"Yep, one of my best friends. She likes to discipline people by making them write two hundred plus pages and if it's not satisfactory she makes them write it again. Trust me that's not even the worst way to discipline someone, I heard an old professor used to make people run around campus for a whole day."

"Enough with the punishments, where was I?"

"Ah yes, tutors. The tutors that will be assigned to you are all upperclassmen that have done well in the class before. You should be treating them with respect since they are helping you with a problem. If I hear that someone was rude to their tutor, I'll make sure that the two-hundred-page paper looks like a dream punishment."

"What if someone is rude to a teacher?"

"Well, you won't be my problem, issues with respect towards professors go straight to the dean in charge of their department. Just so you know most of the instructors here are famous. They could be anywhere they wanted to be, and yet they chose to be here. Don't believe that the dean will be lenient if he finds out that you've been disrespectful to a faculty member. He'll make an example of you. He won't expel you, but you might wish you were expelled when he's done with you."

The boy that had been giving Annabelle a hard time yesterday scoffed, and under his breath commented. "Yeah right, he's just trying to scare us. They aren't allowed to do anything that would physically harm us or cause lasting damage. What, you'll wish you were expelled, it's probably just a slap on the wrist."

"An example of this is Cassandra Pool, she's rather popular in the research department, there was one time during her years as a student that a professor felt she was being rude. Dean Fresor had her spend two full weeks surrounded by Snarin. When she was finally allowed to leave the enclosure, she was so covered in snot that she looked like a Snarin. The best part was that the whole school got to watch the whole thing."

"She hid in her room for a month, partially because it took that long to wash all the gunk off, but also because she couldn't leave her room without people stopping her and asking about what Snarin mucous felt like."

"Granted it turned out that the professor in question was an accidental hire by a secretary and when Fresor found out he fired the guy and had him publicly apologize to Cass in for falsely accusing her of being disrespectful. Now, she was disrespectful, but if a Research department student can back up what they do with a good enough reason, Fresor would let them get away with murder."

"Dean Acott may be more laid back, but he is also a bit stricter than Fresor in the fact that even if you have a, good reason if you were in the wrong, you were in the wrong."

"How can he be more laid back, but stricter?"

"Well Dean Acott doesn't really sweat the small details, and he's less likely to expel you. Fresor is a tight-*ss and any little thing will be punished if it can't be backed up with a reason. However, Fresor is also the one that will let you off if you can logically support what you did. No matter what kind of trouble you get into..."

'I hope that no one's gotten away with actual murder on campus…' Annabelle was unsure of how to feel about what Rou had just said.

"Sir what about being late?" It was one of the boy's friends.

"It depends on the teacher. I'm the type that if you don't interrupt class, and you show up to class. I don't really care if you are on time. There are others that if you come late you can't get into the classroom, and it's counted as an absence, I remember one that I used to have. She would make the students who were tardy stand in front of the class, and at the end she'd say, 'the one's standing already are the ones that get to clean outside'. So, you were subjected to a little bit of humiliation, standing in front of the class, and a little bit of manual labor, cleaning the outside area."

He looked like he was about to add more when the bell rang. "Well, we ran out of time, please remember to come to me if you need help. Good luck with your first day of class!"
