But she never felt herself hit the ground. Instead, someone had caught her. She opened her eyes to look at her saviour.

"Frederic?"

"Hi, Giselle."

He set her down on the ground. She wobbled, but stood straight.

"Thanks."

"Sure. But why were you flinging yourself from the top of the Eiffel Tower?"

"I wasn't. I was pushed. Louis's family wants me gone and dead."

She sighed and bit her fingernail, worried.

"They've found a mate for Louis."

"Wait... what?"

She smiled at him sadly and shook her head.

"I thought you were Louis's mate."

"No. I just followed him around like a puppy dog for 630 years. I asked him multiple times, but he always said no. I stopped after the first century."

"Oh. I'm sorry. I just assumed-"

She held up a hand to stop him. "It's okay. We never told anyone the truth."

Then they heard, "Giselle! Giselle!"

Frederic turned around, and they saw two people running towards them.

"Adelene, René, what is it?"

"Did you just see the news?!" Adelene asked hurriedly.

"No, I was... preoccupied. What happened?"

"It's just been announced on tv!"

"What has?" Frederic asked.

"Louis's marrying someone named Heléne Leduc."

Giselle's eyes widened. She knew exactly who that was. The Leduc family was huge in the technology world, and the vampire world. Frederic turned towards her.

"Giselle?" he asked softly.

"So that's who they found. Of course," she scoffed.

"What?" René asked. "I thought you two were dating."

"No, in his family's eyes, I'm nothing. I'm from the gutter and am ringarde. They never approved of us."

She saw pity in Frederic's eyes.

"So what if he's marrying Heléne. I don't care. Though I do hope he's happy with her."

She turned to Frederic.

"Shall we go? I know a cute little café just around the corner. I'm starved."

"Sorry, Giselle. I've got to get back to Honolulu."

"Oh, okay. I'll see you when I see you again, then."

Frederic gave her an apologetic smile, a small bow, and walked away.

"I should go too," Giselle said.

She hugged the Noirs goodbye and headed away from the Eiffel Tower.

Giselle headed to the train station and took the Chunnel to London. Once there, she boarded a flight out of Heathrow to Stockholm.

In Stockholm, she hailed a taxi and gave the driver an address. Once they pulled up in front of an apartment, she paid the driver and got out. Giselle walked up to the front door and rang the doorbell. A man answered.

"Camille?" he asked in shock.

"Hi Lars."
