Wrong judgment

Julie watched nervously as the conference room fled open. She saw a hairy guy with black whiskers and beards walking in. His thick eyebrows and long eyelashes rose as he gazed at her. He did not seem friendly, nor did he smile. Julie sat up straight, making sure that her sitting position was professional. He steps closer to Julie and views her from her head to her shoe.

"Hello, I am Melvin. And I would be the one interviewing you." He spoke to her casually with intense resentment in his tone as he drew his head away with disgust in his eyes. Julie thought his behavior was rude, but she kept calm. Julie reached out and extended her hand to shake his hand.

"Hello Melvin, I am Julie. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance." She said. However, Melvin kept his hand in his pocket until Julie withdrew her hand to her side. 'Why is Melvin behaving mean? I don't think I have offended or met him before.' Julie thought. Yet she didn't react and continued being cool. Melvin's facial expression shows that he has a lot to say, yet he remains silent with a hostile appearance towards her.

"Julie, can you please stand for me?" Melvin said. She assumed this was part of the interview, so Julie stood up. "I see what makes you seductive," Melvin said in a low tone. He kept gazing at Julie's features. "Excuse me?" Julie asked him. She found Melvin's manner towards her rather disturbing. "I was not speaking to you!" He replied in a harsh tone. Julie perceived that he was lying. But, if she will work at this company, she needs to get along with the other employees, so she let it be.

"Let us begin this interview, okay? He said impatiently and sat down in his chair. Julie took her seat and waited for the question. She assumed the interview questions would be challenging because of Melvin's earlier behavior. "First, tell me about yourself, and what are your weaknesses? Next, I need information on why you want this job and where would you like to be in your career five years from now? Plus, what's your ideal company, and what attracted you to this enterprise?" He questioned her.

"I recently graduated from Preston university with a master's in Philosophy. I preferred this field of study because it is the foundation of critical thinking. My weakness is that I don't easily trust people. I want this job because I want to be part of a team and have additional training opportunities. Five years from now, I see myself serving this company further with my ideas." Julie boldly said as Melvin observed and listened to her attentively.

"My ideal company depends on me, so I am motivated to work hard and complete my tasks. Also, my perfect company provides products and solutions that I believe in and has a long-term plan for achievement. The reputation of key leaders, Admiration of Products/Services, Admiration of other company initiatives, company culture and values, company growth/success, and Company general reputation are all the reasons that attracted me to this company." She continues with her answers.

"Why should we hire you, and what did you like least about your last job? Also, when were you most satisfied with your job, and what can you do for us that other candidates can't? Plus, why are you leaving your current work?" Melvin said, presenting her with another set of questions.

"Honestly, I possess all the skills and experience that you're looking for in an employee. I'm confident I am the best candidate for this job role. It's not just my background in the past projects, but also my people skills, which will be applicable in this position. I have never worked anywhere else. At this point, this is my first job interview. Organization and Planning, Communication, Teamwork, Leadership Skills, Problem-solving, Flexibility, Motivation, and enthusiasm are things that are in my potential." Julie replied.

Melvin stood up and shook Julie's hand. "We are done here. Congratulations! You got the position. Hooray!" He said. The interview was over, and Julie passed. But her mind was depressed. Besides his offensive manner toward her, she felt as though Melvin went easy on her. The questions he delivered were an embarrassment to her profession. Still, Julie did not want to complain. Instead, she took it as a victory and as her lucky day.

"Thank you." She said, giving him a slight bow. "I fulfilled my duty, no need to thank me," Melvin replied. His last statement crossed Julie's tolerance line she drew for him. "Do you have a problem with me?" Julie asked sternly. Melvin seemed relieved by her inquiry. He has been feeling like a sick guy taking candy from a baby's mouth during their meeting. However, her question had given him the excuse to express himself.

"Yes, I have an issue with women like you. Who believes they can easily take away others..." Melvin said, but his remark was cut off by Kate. "Is everything okay here, Melvin?" Kate said as Julie and Melvin caught her present at the door. "Yes, it is!" He replied and walked out. "Excuse me," Kate said to Julie and ran after him.

She met Melvin outside the building. "What the hell is wrong with you? I told you not to meddle in a situation that does not involve you." Kate said, hitting him in the chest. "Why can't I? He is my friend, and she just took his job away from him because she hooked up with our boss. I know Jack messed up, but he didn't deserve this treatment." Melvin replied. Kate's eyes were full of anger. "Don't judge someone based on your opinion. And you know damn well that Jack deserves what he got." She replied.

"I know, but I am so mad that he's not working here again," Melvin said. As he finished his statement, Julie stepped past the glass door and came outside into the open air. She saw the two of them acting suspiciously and quietly. "I am taking my leave now. But I will see you guys tomorrow." Julie said and walked past them. "See you tomorrow!" Kate and Melvin yelled after her. Julie stopped a cab and got in. The song on the radio touched her heart, particularly the chorus of the song. Julie admired the music, and she could relate to it.

"Like a diamond in the dirt, I don't know my value in this life. I kept on trying my best, except it turned into the worst. I don't want to cry, but my heart is aching. Set me free. I need a remedy to help the pain. Dig me out, dust me off and watch me twinkling in the rain." Julie rests her head on the window and listens to the lyrics of the melody.
