A boy stood up from the last row on his name being called out and started walking towards the stage. All eyes were fixed on him as he started walking up the stairs. He reached a glass orb kept in the middle of the stage and placed his hand on it.
He waited for a few seconds and nothing happened, he was thinking of removing his hand when the orb started glowing. The boy retracted his hand and the bright light from the orb started reducing until it came to a halt.
Dark Flames erupted inside the orb and a Black Aura slowly started engulfing the orb to a point that it was completely covered by it. The boy looked up and saw that the whole auditorium had fallen silent, all eyes were fixed on him, with a gaze that he too did not understand. The boy looked at Professor Albert, waiting for him to speak his word. But the Professor seemed like he was in a stasis, his eyes wide open, mouth hung open, he was just staring at the ord, engulfed with darkness.
The boy looked down at the orb when the dark aura started dissipating from the table it was kept on. The aura disappeared but there was no orb anymore, just a table with a half-burnt top.
"Daniel Wolferd has awakened affinity to-" Albert started speaking again like he was out of his dilemma. "DARKNESS!" Albert was cut between sentences by another teacher who nearly jumped out of her chair.
The silence in the room continued as Daniel started walking down the stage. While moving away from the stage he got a glimpse of the headmaster, who looked less worried than the rest of the people in the auditorium.
Daniel walked straight out of the auditorium after having his Magical Attribute recognized.
'That went pretty well, I suppose' Daniel heard a voice inside his head. It was Asmodeus. 'Yes everything was good except for the part where everyone just freaked out' Daniel replied with a cool tone, unbothered by all the glances he got from the audience and the teachers alike.
'Where are we going? Shouldn't you be in there?' Asmodeus asked with a confused tone. 'Staying there would only waste our time and as a matter of fact, I have something to check' Daniel replied as he entered the Academy halls, moving in the direction of the staircase.
He entered the library and went straight to the bookshelf tagged 'Knowledge'. He picked up a book and went to the nearby table to read it. The title read 'Elemental Affinity: Know your magic'. He opened the book and skipped straight to the chapter containing information about Dark Magic.
"Dark Magic" as the book read "is one of the rarest and one of the most powerful elements to have an affinity with, like the other rare elements of summoning, enchantment, illusions, and a few more. Although powerful from the beginning, it is considered one of the most dangerous elements to practice. People with Mana can practice this element, but only to an extent until the Malice from The Dark Arts doesn't devour them or make them go insane. The same law does not app;y to a person who has an elemental affinity to The Dark Arts. For Example, a person with the ability of Pyrokinesis summon creatures with the same ability to fight for him, but the summoned creatures won't be half as powerful as the creatures summoned by a Mage who has an elemental affinity to The Art Summoning."
Keeping the book back into its place, Daniel exited the Library. With nothing else to do, he thought of going to the city. Arriving in the Middle Circle, he started walking down the street in the direction of the Mages Guild. The bazaar was as busy as it could be with people on the street, making it very crowded. He entered the Guild and walked straight to the counter.
The same girl Helena was sitting there and doing some paperwork when Daniel approached her. "Hey" he said looking at her, she lifted her head and saw him standing there. She got off her chair and a smile appeared on her face, Daniel knew that the people working in guilds were supposed to smile and treat everyone respectfully but for some reason, he felt that her smile was not forced.
"Hello! How are you?" she asked him, smiling. "Fine. Do you have any quests? I need to kill some time." Daniel replied to her. "Yes. There is a group of four who need one member to go on a quest. They are just sitting on Table Four." She replied. Daniel nodded and started walking away from her when he heard her voice. "Wait!" she yelled out. Daniel halted and turned his head around. "Yes?" he asked. "Thank You for... that day!" she said in a low and soft tone. Her face flushed red. "Hmm" he replied and walked away.
Daniel walked up to the other side of the ground floor where there was a cafe. Making his way through the tables he reached Table Four. He saw a group of four, two men and two women sitting there. He approached them with a cold look.
"Hello" he voiced out as all of them turned in his direction. One of the guys wearing leather armor stood up and looked at him. "Yes?" he asked with a confused look on his face. "Helena sent me. She said you guys need a fifth member." Daniel said sitting at an empty chair near them. "Alright. I am John, that's Jack, Maria and Ava" He said introducing everyone at the table.
"Wait!... You are the same boy who chopped Big B's hand off?!" One of the girls exclaimed as she recognized him from the other day. "Big B?" "The Big Bald guy!" "Oh... Yeah that would be me". Their faces lit up as they heard that, but the problem was he was not able to comprehend the reason for it, fear or excitement.
"So, What is this quest?"
