Chapter Fourteen: Shinichi's Choice

Ran's POV

"Hello! Hello!" I knocked to the door thrice and I stepped back, waiting for someone to open it.

The breeze heated as the sun rose more up above. It was not summer but it feels like it by the kind of atmosphere the world makes me feel.

I smiled as the door slowly opened and revealed a person behind it. I bowed down. "Ohayou," I said.

"Come in." The door opened wide by Ai-chan. I go in and my feet brought me to the house's kitchen. "Agasa Hakase, we have a visitor," Ai-chan announced as she sat to the high chair and drink her drink left to the table.

An old man with white hair and a fat body turned to me from the refrigerator. He smiled when he saw me and closed the refrigerator door.

"Why are you so early, Ran-kun?" Hakase asked as he puts a bowl of strawberries to the counter.

I took one of it and took a bite of it. "Well, I need to talk some important matters to you and Ai-chan."

Ai-chan stopped drinking the cup. "Is it about the organization?" she asked and continue sipping her cup.

"Ran-kun, I think we shouldn't talk about it this early," Hakase said, looking worried.

"It's about the Black Organization's Princess," I replied and glanced at Haibara. "Heard about it?"

"I heard about it but I don't quite pay attention to it. What about that, Mouri-san?" Haibara asked.

"Shinichi's girlfriend is the Black Organization's Princess," I announced to them, making Ai-chan stopped drinking and Agasa Hakase looked at me unbelievably.

"Kudo-kun's girlfriend?" Ai-chan frowned. "Do you mean Hayley Ford?"

"I heard from Ai-kun that she is Shinichi-kun's girlfriend. How could you be so sure that she is the Black Organization's Princess, Ran-kun?"

"I put Hattori-kun and Kazuha-chan on an investigation before about her and they said Hayley was somehow connected to the Black Organization. She has also a brother, the Black Organization's Prince, codenamed Singani. Hayley's codename is Eclipse."

"New sets of alcohols to their collection now, huh?" Ai-chan sipped through her cup. "We really need to be careful about that Hayley. How about Kudo-kun? Does he know about this?"

I shook my head. "No. Not a single one."

"But his life might be in danger, Mouri-san! He needs protection!"

"That's why I'll always be on his side," I replied. "Yukiko-san left to Berlin to take up some important pieces of information so she made me Shinichi-s babysitter?"

"Want an assistant, Mouri-san?"

"No, I could handle him and speaking of him, I think I need to go. That sleepyhead surely is still lying on his bed."

"So, you just tell us about this Hayley Ford? What a waste of time, Mouri-san."

"No, I'm here to tell you to be cautious. Hayley might target you. She's the Black Organization's Princess after all."

She nodded. "We'll make sure that we're safe." She smiled. "Mouri-san, take care."

I smiled back. "I will." Then, I left Hakase's house.

Shinichi's POV

"

Geez. Why are you here again?" I asked as he sits down the chair.

"I told you. I am here to serve you until Yukiko-san's done with her work in Berlin," she answered as she puts the pot of hot soup in front of him. "Here. Eat."

I raised an eyebrow before I stood up and forced her to sit down the chair across me. I took one bowl, chopsticks and spoon in the kitchen counter and put it neatly in front of Ran before I came back to my sit.

She looked at me with her eyebrows knitted. "Why did you let me sit down?"

"Last time I eat, you haven't eaten so now, eat," I said and took her bowl and put the soup in there, and put it back in front of her.

Her head tilted. "Why...do you care?" I stopped putting soup on my bowl as soon as I heard that question. I looked at her confusingly. She puts her chin on her palm. "I mean, I'm not your girlfriend or anything but you still care." She shrugged. "Just asking."

I thought of it for a moment. Why do I really care for Mouri Ran? I don't know the answer either.

I shook my head and glared at her. "Just eat with me, will you? You're an attorney. You have many things to deal with and eating a meal was out of them so eat or I'll tease you thin again."

"Hey!" She pouted. "You're mean, Shinichi."

I chuckled. "Then eat, idiot."

She gave me a glare but then, she eat the soup eat with me and we are eating silently until someone barged into the kitchen.

"She again?!"

When we both looked, there's a fuming Hayley right to the kitchen archway. She walked towards us and she looked at Ran with anger in her eyes.

"You!" She pointed at Ran who's looking at her with no emotion. "You're taking points again, you filthy obsessed attorney! "

I frowned as I watched her telling trash words on Ran.

"Are you happy that you are with Shinichi again?!" she shouted. "You always pulling him away from me! You always do!"

"Hayley!" I shouted and stood up. I walk beside Ran and looked at her unbelievably. "What are you doing?"

Hayley looked at me with teary eyes. "Are you cheating behind my back, Jimmy?"

"Why would I cheat?" I smiled soullessly. "Why? Does our relationship been stable for the past few years, Hayley?"

"I'm still your girlfriend!" she shouted, tears are falling down her eyes. "I have the rights to be jealous, Jimmy! Why are you always agree with what she do while you keep ignoring me like I was nothing?!"

"Ran is my childhood friend. She could be trusted."

"How? You could not even remember her."

I'm shocked from what she said. "How did you know that?"

She froze in a second but looked at me with rage. "Of course, I would know! It's certainly obvious! This girl had been flirting with you ever since you saw her to that case! You've been with her ever since that case!"

"And what's the matter of her being with me? She helped me reviving my lost memories and you? You didn't do anything for me to remember anything from my past."

"Because it isn't my responsibility!"

"And now I thought before you're a perfect fit to be my girlfriend," I replied. "I think I'm wrong in choosing you as my girlfriend, Hayley."

"Why? You're breaking up with me right now? In front of your ex-lover?"

"Forgotten love," I corrected. "Don't say she's my ex-lover because I feel that she's still the one who makes me from who I am."

"Are you choosing her over me, Jimmy? That filthy hoe?"

"Excuse me, I'm not a hoe. I'm not digging diamonds on Shinichi's family. I could be trusted. Don't accused anyone without proof, Ms. Hayoey Ford," Ran fired back.

Hayley scoffed and rolled her eyes. Her eyes dropped to me. "I'm going to ask you again, Shinichi. Do you love me?"

"No," I replied quickly.

"Shinichi..." I heard Ran muttered but I don't pay attention to her.

"I do not love you. As I said, it was only a like, Hayley."

"Then, why did you make me your girlfriend?" Hayley objected. "There must be a hidden hint of love that you feel for me back then, Jimmy. You just can't define it."

"No. I know what I feel and it's not confusing me. I would not guess because I came into a conclusion now. Back then, I was still confused about our relationship not going well but when I saw Ran, I think it's clear now why our relationship's not stable after all."

"It's because of this girl, isn't it?" Hayley looked at Ran. "How come my boyfriend wants you? What do you have that I don't have huh?"

"Pure love," Ran replied making me stunned. "I gave it unconditionally without any hesiation even though I knew Shinichi could not remember me..." She looked at me with smile. "... I still try."

"You're just saying that because you want to steal him from me!" Hayley is fuming mad. "You're an obsessed woman!"

"Hayley, stop!" I shouted and pushed her away from Ran when she grabbed Ran's shirt's collar.

Her eyes widened. "Did you just push me?" she asked as she looked at me unbelievably. "Are you still choosing her up 'til now? Can't you see she's just playing with your mind?"

"Hayley, stop. I had enough of your rants about her." I glared at her. "If you trash talk my childhood friend again in front of me, I swear, Hayley, we're going to fight really badly."

She scoffed. "Are you threatening me because of her? She's just your childhood friend, I'm your girlfriend!"

"Ex-girlfriend," I replied making her tears fall down. I don't have mercy as I looked at her.

"Shinichi..." I felt Ran gripped my arm tightly. I looked at her and I saw worried in her eyes. She shook her head. "Stop."

I nodded. "I'll end this. Just give me a moment," I whispered to her and she nodded in response. I looked at Hayley. "I'm breaking up with you, Hayley, right now, in front of Ran."

I snaked my arms around Ran's waist and pulled her to me. I connected my lips on hers.

I saw her eyes widened in shock but she kissed back as her arms wounded on my neck.

I closed my eyes as I felt the ferocity of her kiss. I felt all the cells of my body came alive as her lips touched mine so delicately.

A couple of minutes, I heard heavy footsteps coming far and a door slammed close.

I smiled through the kiss and put one last peck on Ran's lips before pulling away.

Heavy breaths are the only sounds we hear.

"Well, that's quite surprising for a man who can't remember me." Ran chuckled as she unwrapped her arms on my neck. "You're getting brave on kissing a stranger like that."

"Well, I know you're not a stranger. You're my lover, right?"

She raised an eyebrow at me as a smile crept on her lips. "Really? So am I your girlfriend from now on?"

"No, you're not. Give me time to revive my past memories first."

"Hai, hai. Roger that, Sir."

We looked at each other and we laughed loudly.

"Well, that's quite surprising. The break up, I mean."

"Well, I don't love her. I might just play around with her feelings if I don't end it right away."

"I guess you're right."

"So, let's eat?"

She smile and nodded. "Sure."

I escort her back to her seat. Once she was seated, I got back to my seat and sat down too, and we continue eating while having a simple conversation in the early morning.

Well, I guess that wasn't a good way to start a morning, was it?
