Chapter 7

Kate's POV

"Espo, you told us you got something?" Kate said when her and Rick got back into the precinct.

"Yeah, but first, what was Johanna doing here?" Esposito asked with a raised eyebrow.

Kate sighed and Rick answered.

"She was here cause she sneaked into the crime scene".

Esposito looked at Rick and then Kate and back again with a shocked face.

"You said what now?" he asked.

"You heard him, now what did you have?" Kate said with a sigh and Esposito shook his head to gather his thoughts.

"Uhm, the key that you found on the victim leads to a gym, Ryan is there right now opening that locker" Esposito said and the phone started to ring.

Esposito went to take it. Kate and Rick sat down in their chairs and Kate started looking at the papers about the victim. Like Lanie already told her the victim was Jacob Collins, he was 35 years old and he had been in a gang as a child. His father had been a drunk and his mother wasn't in the picture. She wrinkled her forehead and went into her computer. The mother had never been found but she was expected dead and it said that if it was a murder the main suspect was the husband/father.

"Yo, Beckett!" Esposito called and then thought about it.

"Espo, it's okay, she'll always be Beckett" Rick said and smiled at her.

She smiled back and was glad she had taken double name.

"But shouldn't it properly be Beckett-Castle?" Esposito asked and the married couple shook their heads.

There was a silent which Kate disturbed.

"Espo, just spit it out" she said and he snapped out of it.

"Ryan found a whole lot of drugs in the locker, guess our victim wasn't so clean after all. He was probably dealing and that's why he dropped dead" Esposito informed.

"Yeah" Kate nodded and looked in the papers again. "Wait, he had a son and a wife".

"He risked to be killed when he had a family? How old is the kid?" Rick asked.

"He's in the same age as Johanna. His name is Gale" Kate got cut off by Rick.

"I know that name! He's in Johanna's class!" Rick exclaimed.

"Yes, that's right, I've heard her talk to Olive about him" Kate said and got a sad feeling.

"Wait, she talked about him? You know what she said?" Rick said sounding like he was interrogating her.

Kate rolled her eyes and ignored him.

"And I suppose we can find the kid in the school but what about his mom, where do we find her" Kate thought out loud and looked through the papers.

"On it!" Esposito said and walked to his desk and started typing on his computer.

Kate could still feel the gaze Rick was giving her, he wanted to know everything about his daughter's life. Kate sighed.

"I won't kiss and tell on something I know she wouldn't want me to" Kate said and Rick looked at her with a half shocked expression.

"What? Why not?" Rick said. "I am capable of handling it".

"I doubt that, remember first time you met Alexis's first boyfriend? You scared the shit out of him, I won't let you do that to our daughter, okay?" Kate said but smiled the whole time.

Rick made puppy eyes and leaned closer to Kate over the desk. He put his hands under his head and just looked at her.

"No" she said and turned her head to Esposito.

"You got anything?" she asked and he wrote something down before turning towards them.

"She's at the school too, she's the counselor" Esposito said and Kate raised from the chair.

"Let's go talk to her" she said and looked at Rick who jumped up.

"We might wanna talk to the boy too" he said and she slapped his arm. "Ouch!"

Kate didn't say anything but started walking.

"You see what I have to put up with?" she heard Rick complain to Esposito.

"Your own choice bro" she heard Esposito answer and she smiled and rolled her eyes.

She heard Rick's footsteps behind her and she felt his fingers slip into her hand. Their hands intertwined and they went back to school.
