Chapter 8

The next morning, Peter swung to the location where he would meet his martial arts master. The boy expected this man to be busy with all of the dimensional merge problems, but he appeared to have some time for him.

He walked through the creaky doors of an old abandoned gym, and the boy was immediately struck by the moldy smell of neglect and disuse. The once shiny floorboards were now covered in a layer of dust and debris, and the windows, high up on the walls, were cracked and dirty, letting in only a faint and flickering light.

Except for the sound of footsteps echoing off the walls and the occasional squeak of a rusted weight machine, the gym was deafeningly quiet. The equipment was covered in cobwebs and rust, and it was obvious that it had not been used in years.

The boy noticed an old treadmill with a frayed power cord in the corner, as well as a stationary bike with a broken chain. He could see the faint outlines of old workout routines scrawled on the chalkboard hanging on the wall, and the free weights were scattered haphazardly across the floor.

Peter couldn't help but feel a sense of sadness and longing as he walked through the gym. This had to have been a place where people came to work hard and achieve their fitness goals, but it now stood as a desolate reminder of what once was. The boy couldn't help but wonder what had become of all the people who had come here in the past, and what their stories were.

In the dim light, the boy made his way toward the back of the old abandoned gym, where he could see the outline of an old boxing ring. The ropes were deteriorated, and the canvas was stained and worn, indicating that it hadn't been used in a long time.

He stepped into the ring and walked toward the center, feeling the canvas give beneath his feet. The aroma of sweat and determination hung heavy in the air, and the boy could almost feel the ghosts of previous fighters training and sparring in this very space.

The ring's corners were littered with worn-out boxing gloves, their once-bright colors faded and worn. He could see faded outlines of old sponsor logos on the ropes and couldn't help but wonder what kind of matches and tournaments were held in this old gym.

"Good morning Mr.Logan," Peter said with a respectful tone.

"You are early, bub," the man responded with his raspy voice.

The teenager stood in front of Logan, taking in the sight of him dressed in casual clothes. He wore a plain t-shirt and jeans, his dark hair falling in messy waves around his face. Despite the simplicity of his outfit and short height, there had been a sense of power and intensity emanating from him, as if he was always ready for action.

But despite the intimidating presence that the man exuded, there had also been a sense of warmth and kindness in his eyes as he looked at the teenager. It was clear that he cared about others and was willing to stand up for what was right.

"I am kinda nervous, when I asked you for someone to train I never imagined that it was . . . you," Peter said while grabbing the back of his head with one hand. That man sent a chill down his spine but he knew that in his core, Logan was a good guy.

"Is my hero community service. Can't train kids in the mansion since I have a business to do here but I can train you," Logan said with a tired tone.

"Never saw you as the martial arts type of guy."

"A man needs a hobby, bub." He made a small pause and let out a sigh.

"And gardening is not my stuff."

"Great so . . . how do we start?"

"Capoeira, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Karate are what you wanted right?"

"Yes."

"Good pick, bub. Gonna help to keep your head cold and out the gutter," the man then pointed at Peter's suit.

"Tell your gal to hold your balls tighter, we need to put some real stress over your body," Logan said with a calm tone.

"How are you . . ." Peter was surprised by that. Did he know about Venom?

"You can't lie to this nose and she is not the first alien I met."

"It will be done, Master Logan." A small mouth came out of the suit and said that.

"But you know the story we have . . ." Peter's first use of Venom was known by a few heroes and villains. It was clear he was extremely dangerous while wearing black.

"Look bub, my wife is a yakuza clan leader and my life is littered with stupid mistakes. If you want to stick your dick on a pile of sentient alien meth go ahead. I will not judge." The man was sincere and calm. He wasn't berating him for taking Venom again.

"Rude," Venom thought.

"Thanks?"

"Now, let's get you in shape." He went into position, ready to teach Peter a thing or two.

In Capoeira, the boy learned how to move with fluidity and grace, using acrobatic movements and footwork to evade and attack his opponents. It was more similar to dancing than proper fighting but Peter could get the feeling of moving his body with a rhythm instead of just jumping all over the place.

In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the boy focused on ground fighting techniques, learning how to control and submit his opponents using leverage and technique. He also practiced escaping from holds and submissions, building his endurance and resilience.

In Karate, the boy learned how to deliver precise and powerful strikes using his hands and feets. He also practiced traditional forms, or kata, which helped him to develop his focus, discipline, and control.

Peter gains:

Capoeira Level 1: The user knows the basics of Capoeira. His arsenal involves the use of fluid, acrobatic movements and a combination of kicks, flips, and other techniques to defend oneself or attack an opponent.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Level 1: The user knows the basics of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. His arsenal involves the use of various submission holds, throws, and grappling techniques to defend oneself or attack an opponent. He understands the basic concepts of positioning and leverage and has learned one or two basic techniques such as the guard position or the mount. He may have also learned some self-defense techniques, such as how to escape from holds or how to defend against strikes.

Karate Level 1: The user knows the basics of Karate. His arsenal involves the use of punches, kicks, strikes, blocks, and throws to defend oneself or attack an opponent. He understands the basic concepts, like vital points of the human body, and has learned one kata or two.

Three hours later.

"We have enough for today. You are a fast learner." The man said as he went to grab something from a bag outside the ring. It was a wooden katana.

"Thanks. Wait . . . that is a wooden sword?" Peter said, exhausted by the training and confused.

"Yes, gonna teach you some extra things, bub."

"I don't use weapons!" Spider-Man couldn't go around with a sword! That wasn't friendly and all!

"Broken ribs stabbing the lungs, internal brain hemorrhage, broken spines . . ." He made a small pause and looked Peter directly in the eyes.

"When you reach a level, fists are messier than swords."

The man had a point, his fist without any restriction could easily kill a person.

"Is always better cutting someone's arm off than caving his skull in."

Another valid point. Peter needed to pull his punches at times, and the fear of killing villains was too distracting. It was like fighting against both his power and the bad guy at the same time.

"I don't know . . ." Still, weapons were scary. Especially swords, he didn't want to be confused by that lunatic with the two katanas.

"Come on, my love. It would be ungrateful to reject knowledge," Venom whispered.

"You do what you want with it. If you want to use this just to cut robots or salads, that's fine by me."

Fine, another tool was never bad. Maybe to cut one of Doctor Octopus's tentacles or even to slash Carnage strings.

"Fine . . ." He finally gave in, it couldn't hurt.

"Now, make a sword." The man ordered and the teenager tried his best with the help of the alien.

In seconds a blade emerged from his hand.

The long sword was a crude and terrifying weapon, with a handle made of a thick, black substance that seemed to ooze with darkness. This substance imparted a dangerous, almost venomous quality to the handle, as if it were alive and hungry for blood. The sword's blade was fashioned from a single tooth. It was pristine white, as if it had just been extracted from a monster to make this blade.

"Done," he said, grabbing the handle and pointing the tip down, Peter didn't want to stab anybody accidentally. Not even the immortal always regenerating man.

"That is shit. Let me show you," he let out a sigh ready to give proper instructions to the boy.

Logan grabbed the wooden sword like someone with a lot of martial arts experience and dedication would. He carefully explained the various parts of a katana, the traditional Japanese sword used in styles such as kendo and iaido, as he stood in front of his student.

Holding the katana in his hand, the old man pointed to the tip of the blade.

"This is the kissaki, the sharpest part of the sword, used for precise and powerful cuts."

Next, he moved his hand down the blade to the line that marked the transition between the sharp cutting edge and the thicker spine of the sword.

"The yokote is an important reference point for any technique, it helps you judge the distance and the angle of each cut."

The old man then showed his student the back edge of the blade, which was typically less sharp than the cutting edge.

"The mune is used for certain techniques like parries and deflections."

Logan pointed to the handle of the katana, which was typically made of wood and wrapped in cord or leather.

"Finally you have the tsuka, an important part of the sword, as it provides a secure grip for the user and helps to balance the weight of the blade."

"Now, give me a proper sword." His master asked and the duo concentrated, changing the shape of the blade.

The katana's handle was made of the same black goo as the alien, giving it a dark and foreboding appearance. Its blade looked as it was fashioned from a fierce predator's fangs, and its sharp edge glinted menacingly in the light. The tar handle and fang blade combined to create a weapon that was as visually appealing as it was lethal. This material seemed to pulse and swirl as if alive, adding to the katana's sense of otherworldly power. Overall, the weapon was a terrifying sight to behold, exuding danger and power with each movement.

"There you got!" He said with a prideful tone.

"Better." Logan gave Peter a microscopic smile and nodded.

Peter gains:

Blade creation: The user can create a regular katana made out of Venom. The white edge is made of the same material as her teeth and the rest is made out of hardened black goo.

Logan was a skilled martial artist who had spent many years studying and practicing with the sword. The hero picked Yagyu Shinkage-ryu for Peter. He was a quiet and reserved individual, preferring to teach through actions rather than words.

As he trained the young teenager in this ancient Japanese sword-fighting style, he demonstrated the techniques and principles of this particular style through examples and sparring sessions. He was a patient and attentive teacher, carefully observing the teenager's movements and offering corrections and guidance when needed.

Despite his quiet demeanor, the man was a demanding instructor, pushing the teenager to always give their best effort and strive for improvement. He knew that mastering this art required discipline and hard work, and he was committed to helping the teenager to reach their full potential.

The man would lead the young teenager through a variety of exercises and drills designed to improve their speed, precision, and control during a training session in this art. Peter needed to start from the beginning, which included practicing basic sword handling movements like cutting and thrusting, as well as more advanced footwork and body positioning techniques.

Logan put in a lot of effort, but he was able to effectively teach Peter the fundamentals of this skill. After the basics were taught, the remainder of the training was spent sparring with him.

In addition to physical training, the man also placed a strong emphasis on mental discipline and focus. He would often lead the teenager through meditative exercises and visualization techniques, helping them to develop the mental clarity and control needed to perform at his best in combat.

The concept of "non-lethal combat" was a key principle of Yagyu Shinkage-ryu. This means that the style's emphasis was on immobilizing an opponent rather than killing them. Techniques were created to disarm or incapacitate an opponent while avoiding serious injury or death.

To accomplish this, practitioners of this art focused on precise strikes and blade control. In addition, they employ a variety of footwork and body positioning techniques to outmaneuver their opponents and gain an advantage in combat.

The most advanced levels of this art incorporate strategy and psychology elements, teaching practitioners to read an opponent's movements and anticipate their actions. This enabled them to defend effectively against attacks and respond with precise, well-timed strikes.

However, Peter was nowhere near that level. Even with his spider senses, he could only learn that skill through actual combat experience. He was a genius with only a year of real battles under his belt, but the teenager still needed more big fights that pushed him to his limits.

Peter gains:

Yagyu Shinkage-ryu level 1: This sword style was the first style of the Tokugawa shogunate, before they began using Ono-ha Itto-ryu. Shinkage-ryu emphasizes flowing, subtle movements, and uses longer and thinner blades. It contains some principles of aikido: instead of killing an enemy, the style encourages the use of disarming techniques.

At the end of the training session, Peter almost collapsed onto the floor, panting heavily after exercising all day. Sweat dripped down his forehead and soaked his torso, and the boy's muscles ached with exhaustion. Despite being drained, the teenager couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment and pride at their hard work.

Training with Logan and having the symbiote restraining each movement was good exercise, but he hadn't felt so exhausted since gym class before being bit.

However, their training session was suddenly interrupted by an uninvited guest. It was the worst possible situation.

"You are tearing me apart, Spidey!" Something red broke in by jumping across one of the old windows and screamed at the top of its lungs.
