Nancy’s POV
“What do you mean you’re moving to Chicago?” I shout, my eyes widening with shock.
“I’ve been applying for internships in neighboring states to open my options for work. An animal hospital in Chicago got back to me last Friday. They offered me a position with them,” Carter clarifies. “They gave me the weekend to think about it, and Monday I called to let them know I’m taking it.”
I’m in such shock I don’t know how to react.
“Wh-what about school? We’re so close to finishing,” I stutter, my brain working overtime to make sense of all this.
“I already talked to the school. We decided I could finish a little early. It’d be silly to transfer at this point and would just prolong my graduating. So this week is my last week,” Carter elaborates.
I open my mouth to protest, but nothing comes out. Carter has every right to make this choice, whether I like it or not.
“When are you leaving?” I ask, swallowing around the sudden lump in my throat.
