Start of Changes

Jean Mary was immersed in her thoughts and still digesting the fact that Kaye had already met her demise. She didn't like Kaye for being a bully but she never wish for Kaye to end up like that. She felt pity for her.

"Hey, Jean Mary, calm yourself. It wasn't your fault why she died so don't stress yourself with it." Anne explained to her.

"I was just thinking that Kaye was too young to die a horrible death. In fact, given by the circumstances, it wasn't an accident but a murder case." Jean Mary analyzed.

"Hey, Jean Mary, don't try to ever involve yourself in that mess. You are not a police nor a detective to dwell so much on that matter. Leave it to the police." Anne reminded her.

Yet Jean Mary felt that Kaye's death was related to her so she could not forget it easily.

Anne tried to divert the topic. "Jean, how did you get acquainted with Jan Reynolds? You didn't answer me earlier."

Jean took a deep breath and decided to tell Anne the truth. "I am engaged to him."

Anne was dumbfounded to hear the shocking truth about their relationship. "How on earth did it happened?!"

"It was an agreement that happened way before. Our grandparents did it. My parents knew about it but they didn't think that it was real and valid since the Reynolds family had been residing abroad for so many years now." Jean Mary explained.

"Ow Eeemmm Geeee! Are you in an ancient era or in a drama to have such destiny? That is too absurd girl." Anne really couldn't believe what's happening to her friend.

"I am really surprised more than you do. Fixed marriage is not anymore a trend nowadays." Said Jean.

"Then, are you and Jan together already cohabiting?" Anne asked her curiously.

"I am staying at his house but we are in different rooms." She answered.

"I see." Anne said while nodding her head.

Jean and Anne's conversation was interrupted because of Grand Kang's appearance.

"Hey Jean, you've been out of the line for days already." Grand told Jean.

But it was Anne who answered him, "Don't find fault at her, she has been busy all weeks because she's getting married."

"Congrats." Grand said but it was devoid of emotion.

"So say goodbye to your little crush. Bye, bye, bye." He was teased by Anne.

"I'm sorry Grand and Anne for informing you late about this. Even I was also just recently been informed by my parents." She was actually apologizing to Grand.

"How about if we celebrate your upcoming wedding at the canteen? My treat." As always, Grand has so much money that he enjoys treating Jean Mary with Anne who eat a lot.

Jan on the other hand was just around the corner observing Jean Mary of what she is doing at school. He overheard their conversations too. He wanted to approach them when he saw Jean and Anne talking. But he hesitated when he heard his name and Kaye and decided to eavesdrop them.

Since Jean and her friends went to the canteen, Jan was left alone on other side of the bench. He decided to call Mr. Smith to ask the progress of his investigation. Mr. Smith wasn't able to identify the stranger who intrude last night, but he was successful to install new security cameras.

Jan made an additional instruction to Mr. Smith. He smiled because he knew that it would make Jean Mary happy.

At the canteen, Jean Mary bid goodbye to Grand and Anne.

Grand and Anne talked to each other about Jean Mary's upcoming marriage. Grand expressed his disappointment.

"I feel so sad by the news." Grand started.

"Hmmm... I was surprised either." Anne said.

"I have been here all this time but Jean Mary didn't bother giving me a glimpse." It is evident that Grand was sorrowful that tears rolled from his eyes and Anne could only look at him with pity.

Jean Mary searched for Jan. She wanted to know if Jan has something to do with Kaye's death. She had to make sure. She has been puzzled already by Jan's mysterious actions like the notebook incident, and she is aware that Jan has psychological issues. She's just hoping that aside from being shy and being OC, he is not a psychopath.

"Jeeeeezzzzzz... So creepy." Jean shivered.

"Who's creepy?" She heard a male voice from behind.

"Wahhhhh!" Jean shouted. She was flabbergasted and when she turned around, she was relieved because it was just Jan. "Woah. You nearly gave me a heart-attack, you know?" Jean said.

"I'm sorry."

Here comes again Mr. One-Two-Word-Response. "Please, stop making unannounced appearances because you are really giving a shock. I will die of a heart-attack from you." Jean scolded Jan.

Jan felt a little guilty and looked down again. Jean couldn't see his face when he said, "I will not do it again, I'll try."

"Okay, anyway, I was really searching for you." She informed him.

"How can I help you then?" He asked.

"Nah. I forgot about it." She denied. "Anyway, did you know what happened to Kaye?

"Yeah." He answered.

"I see." Jean Mary was in deep thought. How did he know? He doesn't have any single friends in school aside from her. "Okay, I will see you after class." Jean Mary bid goodbye.

After the class that afternoon, Mr. Smith was already waiting for them. They both ride the car and maintained a one-seat apart distance. Jean Mary was not in the mood to make any conversations. When they reached the mansion, Jean thought that Mr. Smith stopped at the wrong house.

"Mr. Smith, I guess you got the wrong address." Jean Mary said.

"Ms. Caster, I was already the caretaker of this house for many years now. I would not make a mistake." He answered.

Jean Mary stared carefully the mansion. It was the same but more lively. The former gray mansion is now a white mansion. She turned her gaze to Jan but it was Mr. Smith who told her.

"Ms. Caster, the young master noticed that you do not like dark colors, so he instructed me to change the wall paint while you were at school."

Jean Mary couldn't believe it though.
