In hindsight, I may have gone a tad overboard with my recruitment efforts for new servants. Despite Chilled Servitude being only at level 1, I managed to enlist 23 additional servants, each possessing a unique array of powers and abilities. These capabilities would undoubtedly prove invaluable in our mission to eliminate and hunt down vampires, and perhaps even the nosferatu, though it appeared their abilities weren't quite up to par.
However, this minor setback didn't deter me. I had already devised a solution—I would draft several papers containing the spell formulas for them to study and learn some of my magic. Upon my return later that afternoon, I promptly set about this task. Ensuring efficiency, I delegated the responsibility to Duke, instructing him to take 10 of our new servants into town to procure building materials and additional food supplies. Despite the fact that my servants required minimal sustenance, providing for 25 individuals still necessitated careful planning.
As the days passed, the interactions with my new servants grew increasingly captivating. Week by week, they began unveiling their latent talents, whether it was expertise in stonework or the art of blacksmithing. The blacksmith among them, in particular, piqued my interest. His unique ability allowed him to craft ice runes using the blood of magical creatures like himself and his fellow servants. While the runes lacked significant strength, they still served a purpose, complementing the rough, rudimentary armor he fashioned from scrap salvaged from the abandoned parts of the city.
Speaking of the city I decided to move into the center of it as It would put me closer to the survivor settlement but also make it so me and my other servants could use the remains of the city to our own advantage as we now didn't have to walk a few miles to even get bit of scrap that the blacksmith would use within the same day and need more of.
However, with closeness came inevitable challenges. Settlement citizens began flocking to our enclave, seeking employment under my banner. Yet, my astonishment peaked when the settlement's leader approached, imploring me for protection—a request I granted by stationing 10 of my servants within the village during the night. While this alleviated some of the people's concerns, I couldn't shake a growing unease. Reports from my servants indicated whispers circulating, suggesting an inclination towards proclaiming me as their leader. Such murmurs troubled me deeply, raising questions about the potential ramifications of assuming such a role within the settlement.
My worry though was pushed to the back of my mind when Emma approached me and suggested we form a knight order a suggestion she got from a book I gifted her to read from my personal collection which consisted of most of the intact books I could get from most of the destroyed and desolate cities over the years.
Her Idea though intrigued me and I agreed causing her much joy as she went on to explain the structure to which I had to slow her down and wait for when there was more us to which she suggested taking in people from the settlement something I denied for obvious reasons.
Soon after my Chilled Servitude leveled up, and I was able to acquire another 25 servants! Sadly, it took a couple of months to fill those slots, as bandits and others were being wiped out by the vampires. However, I found myself contemplating recruiting from the settlement population.
I honestly have been noticing a lot more people able to use magic and with my servants already learning my skills I found it would be quite simple to have them learn magic from them.
