Chapter 34: Draftee

Perseus POV

Emma seems to have woken up and left early, she probably did so because if we are seen leaving together, we would be misunderstood for other reasons. Though it's not illegal per se since everyone in the academy is legal adults, but those situations are still badly looked down upon.

For class today, we're supposed to be meeting draftees that are participating in the clan draft right after my duel with Brennan to see what the strength of a raider is like and to compare the strength of a proper graduate and my class, raiders with no experience.

It's also a strength demonstration to make it so that students don't think of dropping out now, if we can't even be compared to a graduate or at least stood our ground, you won't and shouldn't climb the tower.

I got to class and saw the 3 potential draftees, a gnome, a dwarf and a fairy in his original fairy form.

Gnomes usually grow to be 0.6m tall at most, and their specialty is their great eyesight, enchanting and cursing abilities. Physically weak, the 3nd weakest after regular goblins. They are usually hired to become a debuff mage or a weapons enchanter. As for their population, it seems males are usually born in a ratio of 8:2, so it's normal for the females to have several husbands.

Dwarves on the other hand grows to usually 1-1.3 m tall, their outstanding feature is their muscular builds, even the females are muscular once they come of age. Apart from their short build, they don't really have a particular weakness apart from their pride.

Their pride are only 2nd to battle driven orcs, Dwarves take pride in their wisdom, which can be use and translated into jobs like scholar, advisers...etc. It's also how the stereotype of them being good smiths came to be, it's not that they were born to craft, they just have a lot of wisdom, making them excel in their jobs.

Gnomes and Dwarves are also sometimes and misunderstood as earth spirits due to their affinity with the earth. But either way, they are usually not fighting on the frontlines.

The Faeries on the other hand are a very simple race to know about, they stand out with their glittering wings that are there even in their human form. They have a high affinity with light magic and nature magic, they usually live in forests and dark caves, so light magic is important, especially for the plants that they help cultivate.

Their weakness is dark magic and their small and light build, even in their human form, they are very light, making them the physical weakest. Their magic make it so that they are great mages that can fight on a high level, so they have a lot of potential to be drafted.

"These are the graduates of the former A class." Craig said "Today's class is for you guys to ask the volunteers for advice and basically talk with them, you're going to need their wisdom if you want to make it past the academy and the tower itself, they all have gotten past the 12th floor, which is the 2nd official floor."

I reached the 17th floor, 7 past the tutorial floors after the reset 2 years ago, yet I still got promoted from being just a regular named to become a rank despite the reset, learning a secret of the tower late night hasn't really taken a good toll on me either, so I'll just sleep in class.

"You look distracted." Lia commented

"Really? My partner is so perceptive."

"Well, you wanna tell me why?"

"Just focus on class, you're going to need some advice from those draftees as I prepare for my fight with Brennan."

"Well as your partner, I should get to know somethings now. Like do you have any secrets that you're hiding from me?" she asked

"Did Emma put you up to this? We did broke up because I hid too many things from her? Or you're just abusing your position as my new partner?"

Cordelia POV

Damn this guy is smart and perceptive, tch, the fact that Emma still having feelings for him doesn't really help my situation either. My father is investigating something in this tower, and a police isn't responsible for that, the enforcer guild is, you can say that it's my curiosity or whatever, but our goals are aligned in wanting to know.

"Then can you tell me about your teacher? It seems that Emma doesn't know who that person is either."

"Oh, 'Weaver of Calamity'? Great guy, funny too, overpowered as fuck though. I won't say more, his identity is top secret." he answered

"Are you not scared of people ganging up on you to kidnap you and force the secret out?"

"I'll always find my way out, I got my way out of a loving relationship, it's not going to be any more difficult than that."

One of the draftee, the dwarf, then approached us, by us, I meant Perseus.

"If I may, is there a reason why your clan does not participate in the annual clan draft?" he asked

"Personally, I'm very against the system of the draft, it's televised, so the drafted usually have to be paid above their pay grade, it's stupid to be honest." Perseus answered "Besides, I don't have that much say in the clan, I'm just a regular raider."

"Then by chance, are you willing to recruit me, a person recruited by a ranker can be accepted no matter how low their position is." the dwarf took his chance

"Heh, no chance mate, I don't do recruiting, my sister does that, I'm just a regular ol student who loves to sleep in class and anger my homeroom teacher whose anger has not subsidized."

Well it's hard to accept a person who dates your sibling, I get that feeling. The fact that Perseus dated her for a while when he was 16 would perfectly anger anyone.

"But you are right, if I personally recruit someone, the clan will back my judgement and take you away from the draft and directly into our clan." Perseus chuckled "If you want that, do something that is worth my while, or even withstanding 1% of my power."
