Chapter 7- First Two Weeks (Volume 1 End)
As freshmen of being a Tome Maven, we are to attend to school two weeks earlier than the others. According to Heist, it is because we need to know the basic first then we can do our stuffs.
"Tome Mavens are independent Mavens. You are to discover a new type of magic, tool, weapon, and skills, or improve what we already have. No one will be teaching you but I will be facilitating you." Said Miss Diana, our instructor.
"Our subject is Maven Research. After two weeks of discussing the basics, you will join the seniors for your Research, but for now, it will be just the three of us." She added. "Any questions?"
Heist raised his hand.
"Are we also gonna learn how to fight using our spells?" He asked.
"Yes, of course. You've met your personal attendant right?" She asked, we nodded. " your personal attendant will be the one to train you on how to use your abilities, but that will be after two weeks. As I've said, until then it will be just the three of us."
"Any more questions ?" She asked, I raised my hand.
"Yes you"
"Is it only the Tome Mavens that has this subject? " I asked.
"Yes. If you are asking why, then it is because if we are only to fight using magics, then that would make us a Magic Maven, not a Tome Maven. We are referred as a Special Maven for a reason, and that reason is the Maven Research. Not everyone is capable of doing this research, so be proud." She said.
"Now, if you have no more questions, then let us start with our discussion. So today, we are going to tackle about the history of Mavens. "
"A long time ago, in the Trion Boundary, there exist the three trees. The Zeon City's Tree of Knowledge , Zeus City's Tree of Spirits, and Zeul City's Tree Power. These trees are called the Sacred Trees."
"Where are these Zeus and Zeon City Miss Diana?" Heist asked.
"Zeus City, Zeon City, Zeul City. These three Cities are found at different worlds. They are all part of the Trion Boundaries, or the Tri-Outworld Nations. The Trion Boundaries was formed by the Zeon City's first head. They are capable of traveling through space and time, which they refer as intergalactic expedition, through what they call as Technology. The first head of the Zeon City travelled to both Cities to form an alliance, and that is the current Trion Boundaries. At first, the first head of the Zeul City didn't accept the Zeon City's first head's proposal, so the Zeon City's first head challenged the Zeul City's first head. The Zeul City's first head was said to be the Strongest Maven that existed but he was defeated by Zeon City's first head. The Zeon City's first head used a weapon which he call as Cyber Cubes. After his defeat, the Zeul City's first head accepted the alliance that the Zeon City's first head proposed." I answered him.
"Very well said Azrael. That is correct, Zeul City, Zeon City, and Zeus City are all part of the alliance called Trion Boundaries. It seems like you've done your research well Azrael." Miss Diana said.
"Not really Miss Diana, its just that my mom tells me stories about Mavens when I was a child." I answered.
"Oh really? Okay, then let us proceed."
"The Tree of Power is located somewhere in this Academy but only Mavens that are Rank B and above are allowed to enter the Tree of Power. The Tree of Power is a Tree-Structured-Dungeon . This dungeon has a hundred floors and each floors have different wild monsters. Mavens goal is to reach to the hundredth floor and obtain the Tree of Power to keep it out from Strangers."
"What about the Zeus City? How did the Zeon City's first head got the Zeus City's first head's approval? Is the Zeus City's first head strong?" Heist ask.
"Can you answer that Azrael?" Miss Diana asked.
"Yes Miss." I nodded.
"Well then, let's hear it." Miss Diana smiled.
"After having our first head's approval, the Zeon City's first head went to Zeus City together with our First Head. The same with what happen to our City, Zeon City challenged Zeus City. Even with the use of the Legendary Cyber Cubes, Zeon City's first head was utterly defeated by Zeus City's first head's Breaker. Zeus City's residents are called Spirit Breaker and they use Breaker as a weapon. According to Zeon City, Zeus City are much more advances than they are, and their strengths are insanely strong. The Zeon City are more on the Intellectual Advantage, while the Zeus City are more on the Physical Advantage. This left us with no advantage at all, but, unlike the two, we both have the Intellectual and Physical Factor since Zeon is not that physically strong and Zeus city are not the Intellectually Smart." I answered.
"But then how did the first got defeated by Zeon City's first if you're saying that Zeon City are not that physically strong." Heist asked.
"That is because in a battle, strength doesn't always win. In a battle, those who are Intellectually Prepared, Intellectually Strong wins since they've got the battle planned out. Their strategies are absolute and their use of their strengths and weaknesses are beyond compare. Even after only seeing the First Head's ability once, Zeon City's first head already find a way to absolutely counter it." I answered.
"That's right. In a battle between Sword Mavens and Tome Mavens, who are likely to win?" Miss Diana asked.
"Ahm Tome Mavens?" Heist answered, unsurely.
"Why do you think so?" Miss Diana asked again.
"Because we are more capable than they are?" Heist answered, and once again, unsurely.
"That's quite true, but what makes us more capable than they are? It is our way of using our ability , how we counter their every attacks, how we react on sudden situations, and how we form a strategy is our key to win it. That's why those who are intelligent are stronger than just those who are strong." Miss Diana cleared
"Oh I think I get it." Heist said.
"Just remember Heist that a handicap is not a hindrance, but a proof that we are stronger, that we can win even if we have such handicap, and that's what makes our handicap as our secret weapon."
All throughout the week, we discussed about the basics about Zeul City and the Mavens. Miss Diana said that our next discussion will be about the basics of Maven Research.
"Welcome back to my class Heist and Azrael. As I've said last week, our discussion for this week will be about the basics about Maven Research." She opened up.
"But before that, have you done your assignment?" Miss Diana asked.
"Yes ma'am" Heist answered, I just nodded.
"Okay, let's see."
"Zeul City Pledge for Power. I, as a Maven, hereby solemnly swear, to be a dedicated Maven, and do everything for the sake of the Tree of Power. I will train hard, I will nurture my skills, and do my best to protect what is to be protected. No blood, nor friendship, will be a hindrance to my job as a Maven. I , as witnessed by the Essence of Zeul City, shall be serving the Tree of Power until the day I die." Heist and I recited.
"Very good. Don't forget the Oath of the Maven. It is a must." Miss Diana said.
"So now, let us start with our discussion. As I have said in the first day, if you still recall, you are to discover a new type of magic, tool, weapon, and skills, or improve what we already have. This is because as time passes, the Strangers are developing their skills, and so are we. We won't wait for the moment that the strangers will be stronger than us, given that their quantity is way beyond greater than ours"
"Maven Research is the most important task of a Tome Maven, there are a lot of trials. And during your first attempt, mistakes will be unavoidable. So this Maven Research will test both your knowledge and patience. Knowledge is power, either you create a new type, or improve what's already there is important. The Great Library at the Central tower is open for all Tome Maven. But if you have your own books, then that will do." She added.
All throughout the week, we discussed about Maven Research. We discussed about what to Research about and what to avoid during the process. And now, for the weekend, we are going to get our uniform.
"Here is your uniform Young Mavens." The staff handed. We then proceed to our room.
The uniform is a black robe with Gold highlights. And we received a badge with a letter C carved on it, I think that is for our rank.
Tomorrow will be our real start to Zeul Academy. Tomorrow, our life will be widened.
