Episode 1: Tryout

A duel monsters' tournament was starting, but they had to prove they had what it takes to participate before anyone could join. A boy named "Joseph Yusef" was running to the arena to participate. Once he got there, he saw duelists battling and earning their way into the tournament. Joseph stepped into the blue part of one of the arenas and set down his deck. Clyde Tinker, a 5-star champion, stepped into the stadium's red side and set his deck down. Clyde and Joseph both said, "Let's duel." Joseph and Clyde shuffled their decks and put them down again, and their Life Points started at 2000.

Clyde drew Elemental Hero Avian, Polymerization, Nightmare's Chains, The Right Leg of Exodia the Forbidden One, and Kagemusha of Blue Flame. Joseph drew Robin, The Musketeer Horse, Toronado, The Masked Avenger's Horse, Change of Heart, Mountain Cave, and Ninja Sword. Clyde looked at his hand and thought. "Excellent, I already have one piece of Exodia. I'll win if I can draw this duel out for me to assemble all five pieces." Clyde drew Emergency Provisions from his deck and said, "I'll start this duel with one card face down and Elemental Hero Avian (1000/1000) in Attack Mode. That ends my turn." Joseph drew Maverick, The Musketeer Horse, from his deck and said, "Not bad. I summon Maverick, The Musketeer Horse (1600/1000), in Attack Mode. Back feet kick attack!" Then Maverick destroyed Elemental Hero Avian, and Clyde lost 600 Life Points, bringing him down to 1400. Clyde drew Feather Shot from his deck and said, "Defense Mode." Joseph pulled Polymerization from his stack and said, "You call yourself a champion, yet you duel like an amateur. Maverick, attack!" Maverick then destroyed Kagemusha of Blue Flame (800/400). Joseph said, 'I'll end my turn." Clyde drew Elemental Hero Bladedge from his deck and said, "I summon Elemental Hero Bladedge (2600/1800). It's time to put that horse back in its stable. Attack!" Then, Elemental Hero Bladedge destroyed Maverick, The Musketeer Horse, and Joseph lost half his Life Points, bringing him down to 1000. Clyde said, "Still don't think I'm a champion? I bet you don't have a card in your deck that can destroy my Bladedge." Joseph said, "We'll see who wins when this duel ends." Clyde said, "Yes, we will, and it's your move." Joseph drew Waterfall Drop from his deck and said, "I'm playing a monster in defense mode for now." Ella from the audience said, "Wow, Joseph's already lost half his Life Points, and the duel just started." Danny from the audience said, "I hope Clyde doesn't bring out his ultimate monster. If he does, Joseph will lose the duel." Clyde drew The Head of Exodia, the Forbidden One, from his deck and thought, "Two pieces down, three to go." Clyde said, "Ok, I lay one card face down. Next, I play the magic card, Emergency Provisions. This card will destroy my face-down cards and give me 2,000 more Life Points." Then Clyde's Life Points rose from 1400 to 3400. Clyde said, "Elemental Hero Bladedge, destroy his face-down monster." Then, Elemental Hero Bladedge destroyed Robin, The Musketeer Horse (1850/1550). Joseph thought in his head, "My defense." Clyde said, "I end my turn." Joseph drew Jenny, The Queen's Guard, from his deck and said, "I'm playing a monster in defense mode. And laying another card face down." Clyde said, "If that's all you can do, you'll lose."

Clyde drew Rocket Warrior from his deck and said, "I summon Rocket Warrior (1500/1300) in Attack Mode. Destroy his defense card." Rocket Warrior tried destroying Joseph's defense card, but his card's defense was equal to Clyde's monster's attack." Joseph flipped his face-down card face-up and said, "The card I played was Jenny, The Queen's Guard (1400/1500). And since they're even, my monster is safe." Clyde said, "Not entirely true. Bladedge, attack!" Elemental Hero Bladedge destroyed Jenny, The Queen's Guard, and Joseph sent her to the graveyard. Clyde said, "Give up. You don't have any card that can beat my Bladedge." Joseph said, "Are you sure?" Joseph drew Vine Entanglement from his deck, saying, "First, I reveal The Change of Heart. This magic card allows me to take control of one of your monsters and treat it as my own. Elemental Hero Bladedge, come to me." Joseph pointed at Rocket Warrior and said, "Now, attack. Destroy Rocket Warrior with Power Edge Attack." Then, Elemental Hero Bladedge destroyed Rocket Warrior, and Clyde lost 1100 Life Points, bringing him down to 2300. Clyde said, "You just got lucky for winning that round. But in the end, it is I who will reign victorious." Joseph said, "We'll see about that. I end my turn." Clyde drew Hero Kid from his deck and said, "I pass. There's nothing I can do this turn." Joseph drew Queen's Pet Cat from his deck and said, "This is where it ends." Joseph showed Clyde the card he was about to play and said, "I play Waterfall Drop." Joseph's card was then in Clyde's eyes, and Joseph activated it. Joseph said, "This magic card washes the field clean by destroying all monsters in play, and then the owners take battle damage equal to their attack points. And since I don't have any monsters in play, it won't affect me. But, it will also destroy your Bladedge and waste your Life Points." Then, Elemental Hero Bladedge got destroyed, and Clyde lost 2600 Life Points, bringing him down to 0. Ella from the audience said, "Yeah, Joseph, you won." Everyone in the arena was amazed by how well Joseph dueled. Then Joseph left the stadium and was invited to attend the duel monster's tournament. Meanwhile, Clyde was still in his part of the arena and then got down on his hands. Clyde said, "This can't be; I never lose."

Clyde caught Joseph before Joseph left and said, "Joseph." Joseph then looked behind him and saw Clyde talking to him. Clyde said, "You beat me fair and square in this duel. But I assure you we'll duel again. And when we do, you better watch out." Joseph said, "It's very kind of you to accept defeat, Clyde. But when we duel again, you better hope for the best." Joseph then left and went to prepare his deck for the tournament.
