One of the least important, "important" capabilities of a human is speech. When you're in a foreign country, you'll quickly notice how few words you actually need to know/use. Most of which can be replaced with simple hand gestures. These include, pointing at what you want to order / buy and indicating your payment method by showing your preferred option.
