Carbon Monoxide
If you're buying/moving into a new home/appartment, it never hurts to directly install a carbon monoxide detector. It'll save you from the embarrassment of dieing to something that could've easily been avoided.
Although the mortality rate is relatively low at just a few percent, tens of thousands still end up in the emergency department each year. If you're living in country without "free" health care, that can easily end up being very expensive.
