Chapter 37

After a moment of thought Ludger looks straight into Lexes eyes. His pupils light brown, like a beverage that he had drunk a moment ago, penetrate, friend speaking unbelievable words. A loud annoyed voice comes from his thick throat. Adam's apple moves with it, with intent to choke the golden-haired man, of typical colour to most of the inhabitants of New World. He gets serious saying in an almost mocking tone.

"How does Lex the god of the past, plan to do that? I researched this topic long ago. There is no possible way of 'making' them come back, as they died many years ago. From what I know, you need to find a powerful Magic caster, who can use resurrection spell, and their bodies are gone beyond the point of saving, not to mention they wouldn't survive it, as their bodies were too weak"

Lex thinks that Ludger speaks about a spell that was being used on Tia and Gagaran by the Lakyus their Cleric and team leader of Blue Roses.

He doesn't remember exactly what tier that spell was. Resurrection is a 7th-tier spell, it probably was a different magic, as that level is unattainable for most of the species in the Overlord. After a moment of brainstorming, comes an idea

Raise Dead, from a fifth tier? For him, this spell barely comes to mind when speaking about resurrection magic, many drawbacks make him almost forget about it. Raise Dead sounds more like it's used by necromancers to summon low-level undead than resurrect a man. Drawbacks in means of :

Loss of vitality ergo general exhaustion, being unable to get back to fight

Loss of five levels, in a game it worked fine and was actually useful, as you could try other builds for your character. In reality, it is dreadful, for the reason that it makes your hard-earned training go to shit, making you waste months, or years of experience. Warriors lose the vigour of their bodies and probably forget part of martial arts.

Mages are similar, but different losing mana capacity and recently learned spells.

Last but not least it needs a stronger body than a baseline untrained human equal, or greater to level 10, in the new world most humans don't gain such power of Iron level adventurer, and better if that body is in good condition or else this spell won't work at all

Shouldn't Lex with his overloading of spells, and change because of Sp, be able to use it to somehow make it work?

No. It's like betting money in horse races on the worst stallions that is: anorectic, starving, untrained, and his jockey is a known animal abuser loving his steed too much.

No matter how many times you bet on his win, it's not gonna do well. Throwing money at the problem is not gonna help. Stallion won't be hungry and anorectic, but at the same time, the jockey will become fat and would still fuck his steed.

In short, the spell is too much trash to make it work

"Ludger, I don't want to be nasty, but you know shit. There are many more powerful spells than this garbage you are speaking of…"

Hunter evidently becomes annoyed at him, brows go lower and nose becomes more hack like

"I know shit? I spend two years of my life, trying to find the method of bringing them back. There were two possible choices: one this resurrection spell called Raise Dead and the second option necromancy

For the first one I'm too poor, and until I would earn that cash risking my life, the body of my son would be too rotten.

The second option is excluded, as I won't defile their bodies turning them into sort of undead."

Lex smiles expecting a similar outcome

"How do you earn that knowledge when you can't read? And if you travelled so much why you told me to ask about a map? "

"Yes, what is so funny about me not being able to read? I did it to let you learn it"

In the meantime Ludger orders Gramps for another mug, he looks a bit tipsy while doing so

"Maybe slow down with that beer"

"No. For asking about such heavy stuff you owe me something" Innkeeper gives another pinch of beer. Ludger sips it lazily. Then he speaks again

" I just asked people about it, I even found one man with a similar situation to me, he told me about the potential of necromancy. Because of our conflict in beliefs, we parted away"

Similar situation? Lex gets curious and asks

"Did his skin was pale, bald, in a red toga, and he reminded about mother?"

Ludger is a bit amazed by Lexes guess

"You're mostly correct, with the exception of him being bald, he has sparse hair"

Lex is now sure, it was that necromancer who uses the power of an orb to summon two skeleton dragons, and died by Narberal Gamma using her full power. She dominated the fight, and toyed with him, like a child with a food

Necromancer wanted to resurrect his mother with the use of millions of souls, being collected in the graveyard of E-Rantel. He has a sad story like most of the characters in The New World, no matter where sentient life is there always will be pain and suffering. With technological progress, one problem like starvation becomes obesity, From being a slave to Noble you turn into a slave to your own bad habits being thought to you by evil corporations. Even Ainz/Momonga isn't happy, after losing his status of nolife working for a corpo. for dog money being able to only afford a small apartment in a world destroyed by environmental collapse. The ruler of the Great Tomb of Nazarick, one of the most powerful beings in the world, is still recalling the great time that he spent in the game. All the time thinking about great moments with people meted in the game, help offered to him by TouchMe-sama when he was still a noob, PKed by people For him choosing a heteromorph.

By the way, people designing a Yggdrasil must be on crack. Making a mmorpg where you could create only one character and if you chose a heteromorph, by killing you other players wouldn't be marked as notorious player killers and even they could earn equipment dropped after your death.

Heteromorph characters were like a more funny walking pinata

"Don't worry Ludger, If I can't take care of it then how I'm supposed to get revenge on that stoned god, and psychos that killed me?"

"Leet'sss hopee soooo..." Ludger tells, after ending off his last drink, passing out from exhaustion and being drunk

Lex looks at Ludger's head hitting the counter

"Great," he says and looks around don't seeing Sara and Brita, their talk must have taken a long time

"Gramps, can we pay after a night?"

Fearsome-looking man with shaved brown hair, and many scars, all over his arms and face. His dirty worn-out apron rolled up sleeves reveals scars that he is proud of. Looks at imposing Lex who while sitting is still taller than him

"No Problem" he speaks while seeming to be dejected

"You shouldn't kill that man, everyone is doing his job. For example, those guys were bogeymen of beginners, thanks to them many not sure youngsters would exit adventuring, as it's a risky duty. There is no need for unmotivated people, as we adventurers are risking our life with every task accepted" After wise speech man gets annoyed, his face consorts like a beast giving a scary look to it, many scars only increase it "Don't call me Gramps! When we don't know each other"
