Chapter 11

I came to in a brightly lit room with a pounding headache ravaging my brain. My body trembled as I sucked in what seemed like my very first breath of air in a long time. I was laid down on a soft couch, a small pillow propped under my head.

What happened? I... god.

My headache grew worse as the memories of tonight's events came flooding back.

Shit. Alex...

I looked around for him but was surprised when I found someone else instead.

The room was relatively small, so it wasn't hard to spot the girl standing near the window, her back facing me.

"This is basically kidnaping! We can't keep her here!"

A pause.

"No, we can't do that! What if the Keepers found out? All our training would have been for nothing then!"

Another pause. She groaned.

"Fine. But this is all on you. Be quick."

Shaking her head and muttering, she shoved the phone into her back pocket and turned around. Shock registered on her face as she noticed I was awake and watching her, though I probably looked just as shocked as she did; after all, that "girl" was none other than Paige Hughes.

The only difference between us was that she hid her shock just as quickly as it had appeared.

"Well, well, well. Sleeping beauty finally decided to wake up! How was your little nap?" she said, an amused look on her face.

I shoot up into a sitting position, only to regret it a moment later when a sharp pain stabbed through my head.

"Oh, Hun, it will go away soon, I promise. I'd offer you some coffee, but I'm afraid you might spill it on me again." she cooed, her voice laced with false sweetness

I couldn't answer because panic had already settled hard in my bones. Even though Alex had said that she likely wasn't a murderer, fear still took hold of me.

I glanced around, hoping to find some sort of exit. My eyes glided over two other windows, one where Paige was just standing, and one at a far corner of the room. Then, they landed on a pair of large wooden doors, positioned opposite of where Paige was standing.

She laughed, causing my attention to snap back to her.

"Don't even think about it. You wouldn't even make it a foot."

I swallowed my fear deep into the pits of my stomach and clumsily climbed to my feet.

"Ya? What makes you think that?"

She laughed again.

"Have you seen yourself lately? Even if, through some insanely god blessed luck mind you, you made it past that door, you'd come running right back in."

What is she talking about? What's wrong with how I look?

I glanced down to look at myself and choked.

"What the fuck is this!" I shouted, trying to cover myself with my arms.

While I wasn't stark naked, I was pretty damn close, at least by my standards. I was wearing a tight-fitted tank, not to mention without a bra, and a pair of incredibly revealing black underwear. Also, neither of these articles of clothing were mine...

I contorted my body in an effort to get a better look at what was covering my rear, or I should say what wasn't.

"What is this underwear! I can see my whole damn ass cheek!"

"Stop yelling! And it's called thong you dumbass!" Paige snapped at me.

I clenched my jaw. "I won't until I get me some damn pants. Besides you're the one yelling!"

While I was shouting, I had subtly inched my way over close to where Paige was standing. With this little distance between us, I realized just how much taller she was compared to me. All the more reason to do this I guess...

Paige leaned in, her face directly in front of mine.

"How dare you sass me you little—"

I threw a strong right hook into her stomach.

Now's my chance, I thought as I watched her topple to the ground.

I pivoted on my heel, hoping to make it to the doors, only to slam face first into a rock-hard chest.

"Hey idiot. Nice undies," said Liam, a sly smirk curving his full lips.
