The excitement

He slid the bright diamond ring on her ring finger, as she squealed in joy!

She couldn’t think of anything else, the fact that she left work to see him, the fact that she promised to visit her sister after work, and that she should call her co-worker to discuss the presentation.

Nothing stayed in her mind, it screamed Waylen.

‘I just..ca-can't believe.’ she cried in disbelief as he took a step closer and kissed her.

Poor Alexia, the girl's been through a lot in her life. As an author, I should be delighted to give my characters a happy ending.

This is the happiest ending any story can have, getting married to the love of your life and getting your happily ever after, right?

But remember, this is not a happy story.

It’s a cruel one, and it certainly will send a shiver to your spine reading this.

‘I knew you cleared the whole space just for me. I knew you set this up for me.’

She kept yammering and deliberately called her sister.

He stopped her in an alarming tone.

‘And ruin this moment? Alexia, we’ll have plenty of time for that, now let’s just go take our minds off some things for now.’ he breathed.

He thought of just wandering in the huge park and getting lost, so he wouldn’t have to deal with any more problems.

And then he slid the diamond ring on my finger!’ Alexia narrated the entire story to her co-worker the following day. It’s what she is going on about the entire day.

She couldn’t help but think about the amazing things that will happen next. She wanted to call her sister, but decided to tell the news later on when everything was decided and finalised.

Her sister can be a bit cynical at times, which might ruin the whole moment.

‘Amazing girl! And did you have the time of your life~’ Rita teased.

Rita is a vigorous historical romance fan, so you might know how she will take every incident as a romantic moment.

And that’s why she’s single.

‘We just talked about our feelings.’ alexia corrected her while the others listening giggled.

‘What?’ Rita asked, unsatisfied with the answer.

‘Well what do you think we did?’

‘ I don’t know, something over-the-top and romantic.’ She mumbled.

‘Oh come on, we all know how Alexia is.’ someone in the crowd chanted and everyone nodded.

‘Really guys?’ Alexia asked, annoyed.

She was never the romantic type. She loved getting chills down her spine, especially when they were eaten up by the monster.

Just then, an aroma filled the air. It was Natalie’s cologne. She tends to use the most expensive ones to attract more men.

But it has a negative reaction to the women and most of the other co-workers.

‘Hiii… alex! What are you going to do about this early in the morning?’ she smiled, that was anything but pleasant.

‘It’s…Alexia.’ she stated.

She never liked it when people called her Alex, it sounded so pathetic.

‘And…hey Natalie.’ Alexia gave her a wry smile.

As you can see Alexia has extreme anxiety, so she struggles to connect with people outside the comfort zone.

But once you get to know her, it could be fun indeed.

‘Ugh! What the fu…what do you want?’ said Rita.

She tries to swear as little as possible as she wants to go stress-free in the office, especially on mondays.

But with Natalie, we know it’s never possible.

‘Oh, hey Rita.’ she waved uninterested in her direction. It was more of a ‘shoo go away’ gesture than a ‘hello and welcome’.

‘Alexia is getting married.’ Rita blurted.

She looked more happy than Alexia.

Natalie was shocked but tried her best to control her emotions.

‘Oh really?’ she asked slyly.

She is what we call a terrible role model.

‘Y-yeah’ alexia nodded, finally coming back to her senses.

‘Funny, just last year I remember you struggling to keep your job. I guess it’s just a good time for you…’ she sighed.

'but you know, things can always go way wrong.' she smirked.

In fact, it’s not going so well for her.

She’s the one who’s struggling to keep a job now. She couldn’t even afford to buy lunch.

It’s true, it all depends on the time, thought Alexia.

‘Anyway, how’s your husband like?’ Natalie asked, hiding her curiously.

‘He’s amazing.’ she blushed when she thought of him.

‘Really? How charming?’

‘He’s channing Tatum charming.’ she giggled.

‘Oooh….’ Everyone stared in awe.

‘And he gives me gifts.’

‘Ooooh…’

‘And….I guess he’s rich?’

‘OOOH!!’ The voice grew tremendously loud.

Suddenly, the boss walked in annoyed.

‘You gonna keep it down or what?’ He crossed his arms.

'ehehe...sorry, it's just that Alexia is getting married and-'

'don't know, don't care.' he replied coldly and left.

He’s probably the most old-fashioned person you’ll know.

With his starburst mirror and his sheepskin throw rug, everything he owns is from the 90’s, or older.

He’s a short, plump man. He’s in his sixties, but appears older than that. Almost all his hair has fallen down, the only sign of hair is on his sides.

He wears big glasses and a tightly belted black coat and suit. He may appear somewhat decent but his language is too local.

They all wondered how he was still their boss.

They ignored him and asked the final question.

‘Tell them his name, girl!’ Rita was jumping up and down now. She didn’t care about her hip anymore.

‘His name is Waylen.’

Natalie was still staring at Alexia. It wasn’t fierce or threatening like they always were, but cold and lifeless.

‘Waylen?’ she asked, looking like she was defeated at war.

Alexia got chills down her spine looking at her.

‘Yeah, Waylen.’

‘Wow! What a funny name!’ someone from the crowd laughed. Most of them did.

But she didn’t care. It was a unique name.

‘Well, good for you.’ Natalie gulped, leaving the place.

‘Geez, what is her problem?’ Rita asked, annoyed.

‘Don’t know.’

She really didn’t. She didn’t really care at that time. But now it looks like she made a big mistake.

‘Anyway, I was thinking about lunch.’ Rita asked while the others went back to the desk after seeing the boss glaring at them.

‘Great, let’s go.’ alexia said without giving it a second thought.

‘and…Ned invited us to a party, wondering if you…’

‘Rita… no’ she said sternly.
