I leaned back in the swivel chair, allowing it to cradle me as I gazed out the window. The evening sky had come to life with hues of purple, mingling effortlessly with bursts of green and pink. Lightning cut through the heavens, yet, the mesmerizing lights persisted.

Today's weather was different. The air was different.

But those colours in the sky. They evoked memories of her. 

The study door creaked open and I glanced briefly at Lance before returning my attention to the lights flashing outside. 

It felt like a storm was coming.

"Your father is back," Lance announced, settling into the brown chair across from my desk.

"He goes and comes. It's not news," I brushed him off.

My father, the king of Nightwood and ruler of the vampires was a wanderer. No one knew where he went when he disappeared but wherever he went to, I knew he was up to no good.
