From the corner of her eye, Tina noticed DX, Ilana, and Debra striding toward their cars. Her shoulders relaxed slightly. At least this nasty scene had given her brave friends a break. Ilana got into the driver’s side of her car, and Debra walked with DX to theirs.
Bonnie, however, seemed to have slipped into a daze. Tina nudged her gently. “Babe? Are you okay with us going?”
“She’s struggling against the sin!” someone shouted from the crowd.
Tina rolled her eyes, but the protesters clung to the idea. Bonnie’s mother in particular began to croon to her that it wasn’t too late. Tina could feel Bonnie quivering, and she knew deep in her gut that she had to get her out of there.
“We should go,” Tina told her parents. She let them make space as she tugged Bonnie toward their car.
“They’re kidnapping my baby!” Bonnie’s mother wailed.
“You’re traumatizing your daughter,” Tina shot back over her shoulder.
