"I see." She muttered out with a complex look on her face. I suppose I should not have expected any sort of grand complex reaction to my words.
What I have explained is rather confusing but understandable so her reaction is to be expected. Honestly, I was not sure what I was expecting when I told her what I told her but this was fine.
She looked over at me with some concern on her face and she casted a light glance at Mei. She held her daughter with steady hands and there was no shaking about her so she was not that fearful.
I suppose she would never feel completely safe without Mei being free but she also understood that asking for that would be rather difficult in this case.
"He promised to bring back everyone else like you!" Mika shouted it out with excitement in her eyes as she looked at her mother.
That declaration had her mother brush her hand through her daughter's hair and hum lightly at her. Although I didn't notice she looked at me in a rather strange manner.
"What exactly happened to me? The last thing I remember was a loud explosion and pushing Mika towards Mei with all the strength I had." She let out as she looked towards me seeking answers that only I could answer.
I suppose I was rather vague when I said I was the reason she was not visiting the Reaper. Or maybe the notion that she was dead and I brought her back was so strange and confounding that my words held no meaning to her.
I was tempted to leave the explanation up to the short one but that was probably not going to work out either.
"You died and I managed to stumble upon the short one and Mei fighting for their lives against Mist Shinobi." I let out lightly and calmly but I could see my words had a certain effect upon her.
She grew tense and held on to her daughter just a bit tighter but there was a hint of understanding in her eyes. She may not have remembered everything but death clung to her for a moment and an experience like that is haunting even if you never remember it.
Beyond the confused and haunted expression on her face she was looking at me again. I had declared her dead of course but since she was standing right here that was not necessarily true anymore.
Couple that with the words coming from her daughter and you got the image of me saving her life.
"So you're a medic then? Or do you use your bloodline to heal others using well blood? " She asked her first question with a certainty about her but the second one was more hesitant.
I suppose she would know that asking such things to strangers is rather difficult. Clan ninjas tend to keep their secrets tight to their chest and to pry into those secrets is how most people wind up dead.
"I'm sure if I just healed you Mei would be far more receptive to my presence. No, I brought you back from the dead something like medical ninjutsu could not do what I had done for you. " I explained calmly and the excited nodding coming from Mika accompanied my explanation.
Mei on the other hand scoffed and glared at me as if questioning when I was going to end this pathetic display and kill her.
The final member of our party seemed stunned by my response. Again this was to be expected as something like Resurrection was an impossibility. At least to common sense that is.
"That's impossible no man could bring the dead back to life." She let out quickly with a fevered pace. there was a hint of urgency in her eyes as she looked at me trying to gauge whatever nonsense I was spewing at her.
She did not believe what I was telling her but the rest of the redheads in the group knew that I was telling the truth. Even if it is only Mika that truly understands what is going on here.
"Oh I agree with you for the most part. Resurrection is in the realm of the Divine. Only the gods can bring the dead back to life as they wish without any consequences." I let out mildly as I looked at the woman who was still not accepting what I was telling her.
However, based upon the look on her face she was confused about why I was agreeing with her if I was going to lie to her.
The little one seemed confused about why I was saying Resurrection could only be done by the divine. She had seen me do Resurrection after all and while I was scary I was certainly not God.
"Of course, only Gods have that power." She let out solemnly with a serious look on her face. I raised an eyebrow at her with an amused smile on my face.
"Again I agree for the most part but you're ignoring what I said about paying consequences. Resurrection may only be for the Divine but us mere mortals can do it at a cost. The Sage Of Six Paths could use his own life force to bring back the dead. Now he is a mythical figure as well but I can point you towards a more relevant person to you. The Sand Shinobi Chiyo can resurrect someone at the cost of her own life. Although the person she resurrects has to have been killed rather recently." I explained calmly but the sharp gasp coming from her explained how well she was taking it.
She was looking at me with a confounded expression on her face but it looked like she was actually accepting what I was saying.
"So you sacrificed something to bring me back to life?" She asked with an awkward expression on her face as she did not think I would sacrifice anything for a random woman.
I had never met her before so it would be rather pointless for me to waste something precious on someone like her.
"Well, I did pay a price but not an extreme one. Due to my nature I have a near endless vitality. I can use that vitality to revive the recently dead. So instead of dying, I'm simply weaker than I would have been. I can recover given a week or so or I could feast upon the blood of many and recover faster." I explained with a sharp smile at the end drawing attention to my fangs.
I was pulling so much shit out of my ass that I might as well change my name to Edison but it at least made some semblance of sense to the poor woman before me.
I could explain that I have a pool of energy that recovers once a week and that I'm not actually weaker but that sounded a bit too far-fetched to accept.
So it was simpler to lie here and present my ability in a way that she could understand.
"That….thank you for your grace." The woman looked like she was swallowing a lemon but she thanked me gratefully. My previous treatment of her was rather drastic but I had given her a gift that is irreplaceable.
"It's all right I made a deal with the young one over there and I intend to keep it. A man isn't worth much if he can't keep his word. Although I made that deal when I was not exactly in the right state of mind." I explained lightly with a calm smile on my face but as the words left my mouth I felt a jolt run up my spine.
I was adamant about keeping my deal with Mika if only because I would feel bad about it. My question is, is that really the case? I kind of forgot about it in the events that followed but I did have a disadvantage that I was not thinking about.
My Geas, the thing that I took pretty lightly as I never intended to break a promise in the first place but now I was forced to complete any and all promises I make.
I was not sure whether I wanted to complete my deal with Mika from my own feelings or because I was being forced to follow through. The thought was sobering and I was feeling a little more bitter about my current position but sometimes you have to deal with what you have been given.
"Well, my little girl really did make a good deal….Mika said something about you bringing back the others as well?" The woman asked with some hesitance as she did not want to breach this particular subject but she also wanted the knowledge.
I assume she lost many loved ones in the attack. So this particular subject was something she was interested in.
"I did agree to try. By the time I recover, I will probably not be able to bring them back. Honestly speaking I'm not even sure if I can bring them back right now. But I sealed them in a space that should keep their bodies as close to the state as I found them in. So I was hoping that this method would allow me to revive those who died there. " I explained with a calm disarming smile on my face.
Again I was lying about the time frame as I did not want to deal with her bringing me bodies to drink from so I had a better shot at reviving her loved ones.
"Then I will thank you for all the following clan members that have a shot at being brought back here." She let out with a small bow in my direction.
I waved off her sudden bout of politeness. I got where she was coming from as you don't want to piss off the individual offering to resurrect your loved ones.
"Don't worry about it I'm honestly rather intrigued about the technique myself. I had only recently discovered it and I can't wait to master it fully. Maybe I will be able to truly grasp the realm of the Divine one day instead of suffering as a mortal." I explained with a calm smile and a fascinating glint in my eyes.
I needed to sell the image that I was only helping her to further along my technique. The world is based on interests and she would always have her suspicions about me if I didn't have my own motivations.
I was not sure if my ability to lie could fool a Shinobi but she did look at me with a different glint in her eyes.
"I know many people who would love to be your test subject, my Lord." She let out with complete seriousness as she locked her gaze on mine.
I did raise an eyebrow at the sudden elevation of my position in her eyes but I figure she was just kissing my ass.
It was an interesting route to take as I was clearly a child and most of them were prone to having their egos get to them.
If I was going to be completely honest even now my ego might inflate too much.
"Well I was hoping to set up shop somewhere and I'm bound to follow your young one until our deal is done. So you're stuck with me until I figure out a way to bring back every single person who died in that clearing. " I let out with as much mad inventory vibe as I was capable of.\
I was planning on doing that anyway as it was good practice and the resurrection skill would make me valuable. I just did not enjoy being forced to do it.
"Can you release Mei, my Lord? " She asked but some hesitation as she looked towards the Kage to be.
Said woman was glaring at everything happening in front of her so I let out a sigh.
"Honestly I would love to but she seems to be under the impression that she has been caught in a Genjutsu. Nothing I say or do would convince her otherwise. That one has a stubborn streak a mile wide. If I let her go now I'm likely to wake up with kunai in my throat. I'm sure you could appreciate the notion of keeping the guy who can resurrect people alive. so she has to stay chained up for now." I explained with a sour look on my face as I looked at my captive.
Her current state was understandable but I was feeling annoyed at being judged. Although I did not make the best impression.
"I can see how that would be an issue, my Lord. You don't have to worry about it I will convince her of the truth. There are certain things only she and I know and I should be able to snap her out of this little mood." She let out lightly as she walked towards the captive Mei whispering to her.
I raised an eyebrow at the sight but if she wanted to do this she was welcome to it.
I was not going to trust that she would actually convince Mei of anything but there's no harm in trying. I was just going to have to be a bit more subtle about the spells I cast on her until I felt completely safe.
