Two Sides To Every Coin

Riing! Riiing!

Diana's phone kept buzzing in her ear. When she picked up her phone, it showed a video call being made through Chatify. Lucas was calling her.

Checking that it was already past noon, Diana combed her hair with her fingers and attempted to fix herself first before answering the call.

Only then when she accepted the video call.

On the other line, Lucas was in casual clothes in his home. A pool can be seen in the background.

"Hey.." Diana greeted.

"Did you just wake up?" Lucas frowned. He could see that Diana's eyes were puffy and red, her nose was also red. "Are you feeling sick?"

"No. No. I'm not sick. I just woke up, yeah." Diana sat up, hugging a pillow.

"Hmm.." Lucas searched Diana's face. "Is something wrong?"

Diana didn't answer for a while. "No. I'm fine."

Lucas tilted his head. "It's already past noon and you only just woke up. Get up and get ready. I'll pick you up. We can go grab a bite to eat. I want to eat out too."

Diana was contemplating declining his invitation.

"I'm heading out now. I'll see you soon." Lucas really made sure she can't say no.

At this, Diana dragged herself out of bed, took a quick shower, put on some decent clothes and put on light makeup to hide her gloomy face.

Not even 15 minutes and Lucas was already ringing her doorbell.

Diana opened the door for him and offered him a drink, to which he declined. After all, they will be eating out.

He led her to his car, opening the door for her like a gentleman.

He then went around and start the car. He kept stealing glances her way.

She had cleaned up and put on some make up but it was still obvious that she has been crying.

Without Lucas speaking, there was only silence in the car as Diana just stared out of the window.

Lucas took her to a buffet style restaurant. It would seem that this restaurant is quite popular to the locals. The name was even simple to recall, The Buffet.

Seeing that it has five star reviews online, Lucas didn't hesitate to take Diana there.

The two grabbed some plates and utensils, going around every aisle to grab dishes that they fancy.

She was already eyeing the dessert section.

He also grabbed some sodas from the soda machine and set it down on the table the host led them to.

"Hmmm.. These are actually pretty good. Looks like we came at the right time. The food is hot. It doesn't seem to be reheated." Diana commented.

"Good. I'm glad you like it." Lucas was delighted.

Diana was quiet all throughout the meal. Even Lucas can sense that there was something in her mind.

He waited until they finished their meal before trying to see what's going on so she doesn't lose her appetite.

After the meal was paid, Lucas took Diana to a forest preserve to help digest all the food and also to see what's been bothering her.

"I notice that you've been unnaturally quiet. Do you mind sharing your thoughts?" Lucas started.

Diana smiled softly and sighed.

"I feel like my world just shifted. Yesterday I went to the family home. And I found out that I'm not my mother's real daughter. I'm not anybody's twin. My father had me with an actress that he was in a previous relationship with, before he married." Diana's eyes started to tear up again. Lucas held her hand, warming her heart. "What's more, is that my biological mom didn't want me."

Lucas stopped walking and pulled her in for an embrace.

"That must have been devastating." Lucas murmured and kissed her brow. Diana let herself be held.

"I mean it makes sense now why I felt like I didn't belong to them. It's just disappointing that my biological mom didn't even try to raise me herself. Maybe I would have been happier. Or at least I felt like I belong somewhere."

"There's different sides to every coin. If you want, I can help you find out the whole story. It's up to you if you want to form a relationship with your biological mom. But at least knowing the whole truth won't leave you in the dark after all that revelation."

Diana looked up and saw sincerity in Lucas's eyes.

She didn't really expect anything to come out of it. When she was told that she was abandoned, she gave up hope of ever reconnecting with her real mother.

But what Lucas said made sense. It's better if she knows the whole story rather than just believe what Osmond told her.

If it turns out that she really was not wanted, at least she knows the real deal.

Since there is a big piece of detail in her life that was confusing for her, she wanted to get answers.

She was devastated when she first heard it. Who would feel good knowing that she was given up by her real mother.

"Okay. I want to find out the whole truth for myself too."

Lucas smiled softly and hugged her tighter. "I'll be by your side. Don't worry too much. No matter what, you are your own person. It doesn't matter who gave birth to you or who raised you, you're the one carving out your own destiny."

His words warmed her heart and her eyes brightened as she looked up at him.

Diana giggled. "Wow. You can put that in as a quote."

Lucas pinched her cheek in amusement. "Glad you're feeling better."

"Hmm. Thanks to you." She murmured softly.

She let Lucas hugged her tighter. His warm embrace brought her calm, letting her forget her worries for a moment. His warmth gave her the assurance she needed at that moment.

He was not even troubled with the possibility of finding out about her mother's background. What if she will become even more of a burden to him?

She was unsure if Lucas really had total control over who he will choose to be with. It was not far-fetched to assume that he might have an arranged marriage already since those in wealthy families, use marriage as a way to unite their financial capabilities.
