That's A Lie

Diana thought about what Lucas just told her. She has been preoccupied lately with what happened on her first job and now getting settled in her new one that she didn't realize that she can start on her dream sooner than what was estimated.

"Our Institute has a scholarship for employees who want to enter medical school. When it's time for internship and residency, it will be done in Forrest Hospital. If you pass the criteria for the scholarship, you can start that dream soon, don't you think so?" Lucas told her.

"I've heard about that from the orientation on the first day." Diana recalled the scholarship and employee benefits. She remembered that the criteria is actually very difficult. Scholarships can be based on need or merit. Knowing that they will do background checks, she won't be eligible if it is based on financial need. The Winchester Family may not be as wealthy as the Great 7 but it still is one of the wealthy families. On this aspect, she is on equal footing as the other employees hired in the Institute. She can only try to get the scholarship through merit. "Hmm.. yeah.. I should work on it." She said.

"Since you've decided, compile all your documents showing your credentials. Check out if you can earn certificates or licenses to add to your Curriculum Vitae, and keep checking the Institute's website to see if there are any projects you can participate on." Lucas advised.

Hearing this, Diana really appreciated the tips Lucas gave her. It was almost like a Guidance Counselor reminding her of the things she needed.

Her heart warmed at the thought.

This man has been helping her since the first time they met. He did tell her that he wants her to be his girlfriend, but he hasn't insisted on any physical contact. On the contrary, he is succeeding in making a connection with her by knowing her thoughts and aspirations. He has already made her feel like he will be a strong supporter for her. Up to this moment, Heather has only been the one cheering her on.

Back then, her grandfather Vergil would keep reminding her to focus on studies. He would make her submit her Report

Cards to him but he won't praise her even if all of her results are A+, never lower than that. Instead of encouraging her, he will remind her to make sure to maintain that grade so she will give dignity to the Winchester name. There's nothing totally wrong with that, she thought before. But one time, she heard Chantal showing off her Report Card to her grandfather Vergil, and he praised her to high heavens even if there was only one A, and that was in Music and Arts, then rest are even lower than that. Grandfather Vergil was not the only one with this reaction, the rest of the family would always praise Chantal but not Diana. Once, Diana asked Vanessa when she had just won Valedictorian and other than showing up at the stage to put on the medal on her, the family would keep on complimenting Chantal for having the Best Artist Award and only told Diana one

"Good Job". Diana cried that night. She saw how other parents gladly pose for pictures with their children who have just graduated, even those without awards. But with her, other than that photo on stage, they didn't show any signs of them being proud of her. Vanessa, in turn, only told her that what she sensed was not true. That they are proud of her. But they can't neglect Chantal just because she only has the Best Artist Award. Their teachers, classmates and even other parents have congratulated Diana already, Vanessa reasoned that it's only right for them to make Chantal feel that they are very proud of her. Vanessa reminded Diana that she should be happy for her sister too instead of complaining that the attention is not all on her.

That explanation might have worked on her before, but not anymore. She could clearly understand now that even if Chantal is her twin, she would always be the neglected one.

Even that time when they found out that Diana was once Henry's girlfriend and that Chantal and him started their relationship before ending Henry's relationship with Diana. They didn't reprimand Chantal at all. Instead, they just advised Diana to move on quickly since Diana can't force Henry's feelings to remain with her. That time, she was not the one who brought it up. She was already expecting that they would take Chantal's side. But Chantal purposefully let them know, even accusing Diana of still getting in contact with Henry. This really made Diana very disappointed at them and made her feel fully alienated by them.

That's why it's important for her to become independent from the Winchester Family.

"Thank you for the tips." She smiled, softly. "I will do all that!"

Lucas chuckled.

Beep! Beep!

Diana's phone vibrated.

It was Osmond calling.

Diana was contemplating whether she should pick up the call. She was still inside the car so she was thinking if it's appropriate to take the call.

"You can answer it. I don't mind." Lucas smiled.

The beeping on her phone stopped. She was relieved. But the phone resumed beeping again. There was even a text message from Osmond, telling her to answer the phone.

She sighed and steadied herself. Taking a deep breath, she picked up the call.

"Father?" Diana asked.

This is her father she is talking to but instead of calling out 'Dad' or 'Papa', she would refer to him more formally as she has never felt close to him. He seemed to always make her feel detached from him.

"Diana. Don't forget to ask for leave on April 8 for Chantal and Henry's engagement party. It's important that everybody's there. Make sure to dress presentably and behave well." Osmond said, coldly.

Knowing that it's impossible for her to not attend she said, "Okay."

"And one more thing, make sure to not speak about your past relationship with Henry to anybody there. I know you haven't forgotten him--" Osmond said.

"Wha-- I've already moved on from him a long time ago. I am genuinely happy for both of them." Diana reasoned, frowning.

Osmond laughed mockingly. "Moved on? Chantal told me what happened during her birthday. You had someone pretend to be your boyfriend in hopes to make Henry jealous and beg to take him back."

Osmond's voice was so loud on the phone that even Lucas heard it.

Although it was true that Lucas pretended to be her boyfriend, it's a lie that it was to make Henry jealous.
