Powerful Name

Bryan on the other hand was second-guessing himself when the questions that were asked revealed that he made a hasty decision in terminating Diana. He should have investigated first before sending out that letter. Otherwise, the higher-ups will find fault in him.

Clara however was pale-faced when the Officers interrogated her. She tried to be as calm as possible but when she was asked what she thought of Diana, her reaction betrayed her. She was green with envy in Diana that the Officers were able to see that she indeed had a motive.

"Let's not waste our time here. Tell me, why did you do it?" the officer asked, leaning towards Clara with cold eyes that frightened her.

Clara's whole body went cold. Now, she's done for.

"I didn't do anything. It was Diana's fault. She was negligent. She should have kept her eyes on the specimens. She shouldn't have left it unattended. She should have made sure that she still had the right specimens." Clara fired. She could only try to shift the blame on Diana.

Inwardly, the Officer smiled. Clara's statement, revealed how the incident occurred, just as how it showed in the surveillance footage.

"Right~ and you think that because of that you're free to tamper it as you wish. Not caring that it will lead to harm to patients." the Officer said, dryly.

Clara gasped. Her breath caught in her throat.

"Officer--Officer… I regret it…. Can I talk to Diana, please? I will apologize to her. Please!" Clara hysterically sobbed. How could she be blinded by her envy that she would even forget that she might be imprisoned for 2 to 5 years?

The Officer left the Interrogation room as another came in and escorted her to the cell.

"Wait! Officers! Where are you taking her? Where's Diana? Isn't she supposed to be here?" Bryan asked when he saw Clara in handcuffs.

"Ms. Winchester already left. She already gave her statement. You will be free to go soon too. But Ms. Holt will have to stay here." an officer answered.

"Why? It should be the other way around. Clara was the one who helped redo the tests. Clara! Tell them. Don't tell me you took the blame for Diana?!" Bryan was getting worried for Clara as the latter just kept looking down with tears streaked on her face.

"Bryan, help me get out of here, please," Clara begged, trying to approach Bryan but was held back by the Officer.

"That's enough. You'll see the complainant at court." the Officer told Clara, finally putting her behind bars.

"I can't believe this! You let the criminal go and you put the innocent in jail?! What kind of Officers are you!" Bryan yelled.

"Restrain yourself from speaking insulting words when you don't even know the whole truth," Ed said.

Just then, a lawyer in a grey suit arrived. "Good day. I'm Atty. Hector Pierpont. I will be representing Ms. Diana Winchester. We'll file a case against Ms. Clara Holt."

Bryan was shocked to see the famous lawyer, and especially to represent Diana. The Officers in the Department accommodated him courteously.

'That's the famous lawyer! How did she get him to deal with her case? Isn't it, he's not taking just anybody's case? Does she have a powerful backing that I don't know of?! Oh god! I screwed up!' Bryan was on the side being agitated as he could see that the lawyer was very confident.

'Why is he acting confident when it was clearly his client that did wrong?' Thinking about this, he thought that the lawyer was actually a fool.

Nobody else bothered with him after that. He only went by the cell where Clara was in, still crying, and offered words of comfort, promising to help her bailout.

In the apartment, Diana was searching for jobs on her computer when her professor from University e-mailed her. He recommended for her to apply at Forrest Research Institute and to even use his name as a Reference.

"Diana, I know you're in Hopton. But you might consider trying and apply for Forrest. I'm sure you'll be able to get in! You can put my name as a Reference. I've ever written a letter already, just send it to them when you decide to apply."

Thinking about it, she followed the link and sent out her resume. She looked for other hiring companies and also sent out her resume.

After that, she did some cleaning to pass the time. She had been busy since her internship started that she had barely time to clean up the apartment.

She turned her phone on and played music through it, connecting it wirelessly to the speaker. As she was cleaning up, she let herself feel the music, dancing to its beat, letting it take her mind off her troubles. She hummed to its tune, singing along with its familiar lyrics. For a moment there, she was taken back to when she and Heather would head to the lakeside and hang out. They would confide in each other their worries and fears as the music softly plays in the background.

Gradually, her feelings of sadness and disappointment eased. Although she can't go back to the Institute anymore, she was hopeful that there would be a better spot for her. She only has to continue believing in herself and couple it with her hard work.

Only an hour later, she received a call from an unknown number.

"Yes, hello?" Diana said. Her brows were knitted together, wary of any spam callers.

"Good day. Is this Ms. Diana Winchester? My name is Tamara Silva from Forrest Research Institute." the woman greeted.

"Yes. I'm Diana. How are you?" Diana greeted in return.

"I'm doing great! How is your day going?" The other asked, friendly.

"Good. Good. Umm-- I have just sent out my resume.." Diana started tentatively.

"Oh! Yes" The other chuckled. "I'm actually calling to inform you that you can start as soon as possible, tomorrow if you are available."

Diana was dumbstruck. She had just sent resume. 'They weren't even able to check it yet, right?' How could her Professor's name be that powerful that she will get hired within an hour of sending her resume?
