Pop Quiz

Diana was still dumbfounded at her father for accusing her to beg Henry to get back together with her.

She didn't know where her father got this idea from. Just because they had just broken up and her ex is with her sister, it didn't mean that she would harp about it. 'Why couldn't they believe that I have moved on?'

The way they are is like a broken record, constantly singing a repetitive tune. It was ridiculous and they seem to not have realized it yet.

She gritted her teeth. "Get back together with him? Father, you really don't know me. Whatever. If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up."

"Y-you! You! So disrespectful!" Osmond threw the phone on the couch, ending the call.

'Is Henry the best man in the world that any girl would have a darn hard time getting over him?' She glanced at Lucas. 'He's not even an inch closer to this guy.'

Diana sighed. She massaged her neck and temples. Really, when she broke up with Henry, she discarded the idea of giving him another chance. Especially since the third party was Chantal. She knew that she'll only be bothered if she would choose to hold on to him. Anyway, the possibility of Chantal not knowing Diana's relationship with Henry before was slim to none.

To save herself from unnecessary stress, she just chose to break things off with him. Regardless, her feelings were not that deep. She wondered until when she'll have to deal with this. Every time they see each other, they keep accusing her of not moving on. What must she do to make them stop?

She could guess that it was because of Chantal. She probably kept on giving them ideas. Which is utterly ridiculous since she's already gotten Henry without a fight from her.

"Are you okay?" Lucas sensed her becoming quiet.

"Hmm.. that was my father." She looked out of the window.

Lucas grunted. He already has a bad impression of the Winchester family except for Diana.

He was silent as if waiting for her to say more.

Diana tapped her fingers on the car's door. "He's just reminding me of my twin's engagement party."

"When will that be?"

"On April 8"

"Where will it be held?"

"It's at a restaurant called The Shining Star"

"What is the theme?"

"Basically it'll be brunch"

"Hmm.. okay.. " Lucas said.

Lucas just fired question after question and she couldn't help but just answer him like they were doing a pop quiz. When he finished, Diana was left in a daze. 'What was okay?'

'Why did he ask all of those?' It was as if Heather was the one asking her instead.

"I'll be your plus one." The moment Lucas said those words, Diana's mind blew away.

'This man really works fast!'

She didn't even tell him that she needs a plus one because she didn't. They didn't expect her to have one either.

"You don't have to.." Diana tried to reject him politely.

"No, I insist. I'd love to go with you as your date." Lucas crinkled his eyes. He basically invited himself.

Diana's breath hitched in her throat. She didn't know what else to say to that. It would be discourteous of her if she were to keep declining him. She made a wild guess that he wanted to be there to make sure that she didn't get treated the same as last time. If that was the case, then it really would warm her heart. Very rarely she would meet people who would be protective of her. Other than Heather, the only people she got along with were Osmond's sister, Cassandra, and her family. But they were too far away. At least they would talk through video calls which is more often than when Chantal would chat with them.

Lucas tapped his fingers again in the steering wheel, an action he makes every time he is thinking of something. It drew Diana's attention towards it. She noticed how big his hands are on the steering wheel. The nails were well-groomed. It was also slender and slightly tanned. His arms were muscular, which appeared not so obvious before when he was wearing his suit.

But now with just his white undershirt, it's obvious that he takes care of his physique despite working long hours. He could even be mistaken for a model.

Back at work, she could even hear chatter about him. Saying how suave he is. How manly a man he is. That his face and body is an embodiment of a perfect sculpture. Some of them would even claim to be his wife or girlfriend while others would just settle for his fan.

He really is popular in the Institute. This is why it was strange that at 30 years old, there hasn't been any news of him having a girlfriend yet.

"Mr. Ingram--" Diana started to say.

"Lucas", he interrupted.

"Huh?" She frowned, distracted.

"Call me Lucas." He tilted his head.

"You're still my boss." Diana reasoned out. "I remember I told you just a while ago that I don't want them to know?"

Lucas sighed. His elbow rested on the car's door.

"I remember." Lucas frowned. After a while, his frown disappeared. "You can still call me by my name when we're alone."

"Oh.." He had a point. Nobody had to know what she calls him when they're inside the car or just whenever there isn't anybody around.

Lucas smiled softly. "Diana."

Diana's breath hitched again. This time started a fit of hiccups. Lucas reached out to rub his palm against her back.

"Water?" He offered. She declined, shaking her head.

She held her breath for more than a minute, and released it, effectively losing the hiccup.

"You alright Diana?" Lucas said her name so naturally. This time Diana tried to keep calm to avoid another series of hiccups. Her heart warmed, and so did her cheeks and ears.

She nodded, avoiding embarrassment by not letting him hear her stammer.

Compared to her, Lucas was so smooth with his words. He easily brought her along with his flow.

At that moment, they finally reached the apartment.

Actually, they should have reached moments ago, if not for Lucas purposefully taking detours.

After saying her farewell, she went up to her apartment.

She didn't expect someone would be waiting for her there.
